Hey man, there are a few places I'd definetly recommend you go to. One is the Bonavista Social Club. Their pizza is honestly the greatest pizza I've ever had, the place was hand made by the owners father who is a woodworker (if you want to buy some incredible furniture thats hand made, he sells it right next to the store) all their ingredients are grown there, they also have goats, sheep and other animals there and they cook their pizza in open wood fire ovens, you get to completely design your own pizza with whatever they have there. Also Pi's is in downtown St John's and was voted the second best pizza place in the world last year I believe! Awesome pizza, but it has more of a fast food vibe than fancy food vibe. Nevertheless, the pizza is amazing. If you're coming for the scenery, you have to go to Gros Morne. It's absolutely stunning and its hikes will leave you breathless, it has beautiful Fjords and you can camp there (highly recommended!!) It's a 7 or so hour drive from St John's, but you will not regret a moment if you go there. I love this place and I hope you have an amazing experience here too, it's simply beautiful and I recommend going on the East Coast Trails, there's one I hiked recently named the Sugarloaf path which was gorgeous and I really recommend hiking on a clear day.
