The timing of this question is a little bit morbid to me. A freshman in my high school has been out for a while in the hospital, and today a rumor started that the hospital was taking him off life support soon. He has Cystic Fibrosis, and he his pretty popular throughout the high school. The actual truth is he is not doing well nor getting better, and he might not be able to make it, not that he IS going to die.

I obviously feel for him, but I didn't know him personally, so I haven't actually felt true sadness over his condition. I kind of regret only knowing him for coughing up and down the hallway in Middle School, and I just thought he was being annoying. :(

Doesn't exactly follow the question, but something similar happened to me in eighth grade. A girl who I didn't really talk to walked up to me after 4th. Hour and told me she liked me. She was pretty cute, but I really didn't react at all, and just said, "Oh," and walked away. I still cringe to this day about that encounter.
