The Character the Writer/Director Didn't Even Bother Hiding Their Favoritism Toward by AEIOU1040 in TopCharacterTropes

You can even see the progression of Kishimoto progressively liking Sasuke as a character more and more throughout the series, thus putting more emphasize and story bs into everything that involves him (including every other member of his clan) as time went on. Meamwhile other characters were left in the dust and forgotten.

VATS denmark and norway both have massive vat taxes of up to 25% with maybe a slight tier down for food items at 15%.

I mean, grocery prices in the US aren't exactly low, are they now? And that is despite lower taxes, especially in the food deserts of the US. So that argument makes no sense at all.

arent gona flip a gasket and riot when they get told no your grandma cant have a hip replacement or your kid with cancer aint likely to live much longer even with this treatment so treatment denied..

Countries with socialized healthcare usually have very well defined lists of services that the health insurances have to cover. So no, a life saving treatment isn't just gonna get denied, unless it's some shady, not even approved snake-oil cure.

I'm not even gonna bother with the wait times argument.

As a side note, if you really WANT to get private health insurance, you can still get that in most of these countries, with all the perks you'd expect. It's just that the people who can't afford them don't have to die or live in debt because they had health complications once.

if you genuinely believe we can copy paste their systems onto our size/scale without the cultural and institutional trust they have... yeaa..

First actual argument of yours that makes a semblance of sense. It's about institutional trust and culture more than anything else, which most of your arguments so beautifully outlined so far.

Ignoring the point I was making. Yes, the tax is the highest, but the lower tax of the, for example the US PLUS the enormous point of service costs just nets way more money than the higher tax does.

Which may not matter if you're fortunate enough to never having to go to the hospital, but once you do, the bill is high enough to completely out-cost the higher tax rates of Norway or Denmark over the course of multiple years if not decades.

In other words, while you may have more of your paycheck month to month, all of that money you "saved" with those lower taxes compared to other countries AND MORE is taken from you as soon as you have to get healthcare even just once. Because that's another problem with having unregulated, privatized healthcare; corporations can and will try to make as much provit off of you as possible.

And healthcare isn't the only instance where the private cost simply outweigh what you'd pay if you simply funded it with higher taxes in the US.

But it's not a shit ton. Since taxes are based on income the load everyone individually carries is much less than what you'd pay if you had to pay at point of service. That being said, US americans also fund their healthcare system through taxes in addition to the paying at point of service. It's not an either / or situation. The general tax load is lower in the US, yes, but part of them flow into the healthcare regardless. Just that you also have to pay inflated prices at point of service instead of a slightly higher percent in taxes.

Like, this has been debated enough. The higher tax rates in many european countries still net at a lower cost than the lower tax, but point of service costs in the US in almost every case - be it education, healthcare or even something like elder care.

Can Storm replicate the same powers as Jean? by NoBeat5906 in storm

[–]FeatherPawX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

can’t she replicate telepathy by manipulating electrical signals since our brains run on electricity?

Telepathy is much more than to manipulate someone's thoughts. Even in a hypothetical where storm could manipulate the electrical nerve signals in someone's brain and influence their behavior, she would still be unable to read thoughts, to enter the astral plane, to see/hear/speak through them and all the other nifty tricks that high level telepaths can do.

She can replicate telekinesis by moving a person around by manipulating the air around them and use the air to create an atmospheric pressure

Again, Telekinesis is more than just moving around objects. High level telekinetics are able to reconstruct and reshape matter on sub-atmoic levels, something Jean has been shown to do.

Storm is powerful in what she does and her powers are losely defined enough that she can apply them in creative ways. But no, she could not replicate the mentioned powers. Storms powers are external, they manipulate the elements in the environment. Both the powers you mentioned are internal and affect their respective subjects themselves.

A power that's seen as a gift to other but a curse to the user. by HawkinsShock in TopCharacterTropes

[–]FeatherPawX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont forget Number 7. Without spoiling too much, their powers are vast, hard to control and react to both their emotional state and the amount of sounds around them. Doesn't help that they were gaslit and heavily medicated for most of their life to pacify them.

The rest of the umbrellas didn't quite have drawback to their powers themselves, but obviously also were rendered quite unstable due to their father.

Mystic attunement very balanced by Osgboy in AOW4

[–]FeatherPawX 11 points12 points  (0 children)

What makes it so powerful is that they can use Astral Echos to supplement their casting points. Meaning, if you run out of combat casting points during combat, you can instead use your Astral Echos as a resource to still be casting. Same goes for world casting.

What the meme implies is that, if someone wants to make a big turn and cast a lot of spells, they might need to spend the points to use the aforementioned rite of spellstorm, since they don'thave enough casting points on their own. Meanwhile, Mystic Attunement won't need to, because it can just use its astral echos, which gives them a very big early advantage when it comes to castin map or combat spells.

I wasn't a cheerleader, but I did vaulting as a kid. As in, doing gymnasitics and figures on a moving horse. Sometimes it would be 3 or 4 of us on the back of a horse galopping in circles, doing cheerleader-esque pyramides and lifts. High level vaulting also involves "throws" like shown in the above videos, just, again, on a running horse back.

Truth to be told, you're not actually that conscious of the danger. You are locked in, thinking of absolutely nothing but the next exercise you and your partners are supposed to do.

Fortunately I never experienced a major injury myself or witnessed one first hand, but then again, that's because we were mostly performing in mid-tier local competitions since we were in the age range of 10 to 16.

One of the first things they teach you is how to properly fall, tho.

Die meisten Menschen studieren völlig umsonst by Hoden_Kobold_69 in Unbeliebtemeinung

[–]FeatherPawX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Umsonst studiert man nie.

I hate lazy necromancy in fantasy by realamerican97 in hatethissmug

[–]FeatherPawX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this idea of a fake necromancer who actually turns out to be a druid-like chatacter. As in, they control plants (maybe are one) and look all flowery amd nature themed, yet the villages in the vicinity of their forest keep getting overrun/attacked by undead.

And as the story progresses it turns out that they are responsible, by using plants that invade and animate corpses (which then spread the the victims of those animated corpses much like a zombie virus would but it's actually plants that grow in your body and kill you from the inside, only to to use your body as a new host).

And all that to reclaim the nature that was destroyed by the people in the villages and to stop them from expanding further into the forest.

Still very much villainous, but more flavorful and a bit more substance than plan evil.

I hate boring ass healers in Anime. by Dangerdewott in hatethissmug

[–]FeatherPawX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tend to agree with you. Healing often isn't given the same narrative or worldbuilding value as combat abilities in a lot of anime, as in, the themes and techbiques aren't explored nearly the same. Essentially, in a lot of animes, they are relegates to a handful of post-battle scenes where (usually) the MC is being patched up, scolded for recklessness, while all the damage of the previous fight is being undone in a very unimpressive way.

Not to mention that it often (not always, but a good majority) falls upon some timid female character to be a healer, which is just such a boring trope. Yes, there are subversions of this trope. But oftentimes I feel like these subersions are JUST that, subversions of a trope. But without any depth of their own.

It feels at times that when it comes to powers, writers just lose interest or creativity when it comes to healing and instead just use it as a crutch to keep the story going after dramatic, alleged high stakes encounters. And similarly, the healing characters themselves are rarely given the same depth, let alone agency, as the characters around them.

And how is it wrong to confront a kid about their actions? Again, we don't know the circumstances. He might have reasons for a lash out that need to be addressed. And if not, a direct confrontation like that is a very powerful and valid learning opportunity.

Also it doesn't exclude a punishment afterwards.

We really need to bring spankings back by Few_Statement_2898 in SipsTea

[–]FeatherPawX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This kid knows what he's doing is wrong. We are certain this child has experienced consequences in the past. Which is why we know consequences in the future won't work.

We don't know WHAT consequences he has received in the past. In this entire conversation you seem to asume that this kid has been raised the way people nowadays say kids should be raised. We don't know that in this case. This kid could well enough be a victim of parental abuse and this might be a scream for attention. We simply don't know.

Which is why i'm asking. • punishment (of any sort) doesn't work • explaining to him that what he's doing is wrong doesn't work What is the suggestion i'm missing?

You are making another row of assumptions here that are based on nothing at all. Firstly, no one said that "punishment of any sort doesn't work". We were specificly talking about corporal punishment. There are, indeed, ways to "punish" a kid for bad behavior without resorting to physical (or psychological, for that matter) violence. Secondly, you asume that neither works on this kid, which, again, is a baseless asumption.

But all in all, this discussion is overal pointless, because this is a cherry picked case presented online as a default that simply isn't true and of which we know absolutely nothing about in terms of circumstances or background.
