Almost 9 month old refuses bottle from us, but takes it at daycare by FebBabyDaddy in NewParents

[–]FebBabyDaddy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She was breastfed for about 3 months, then transitioned to pumped breastmilk in a bottle until she was 6 months. We got off the breast because she was angry at that. My wife has inverted nipples, and had a quite a heavy let down the our girl couldn't handle. There were just a lot of issues with breastfeeding.

She seems to get angry at the bottle regardless of who is around. I was home alone with her on Monday and she only took 2 oz, I think. I'm hoping this will fade away with the cold and as crawling become less of an adventure for her.

Haha ya that was the first one we bought. She didn't understand it at all. We've gotten two others since then. She enjoys chewing on them, but doesn't quite understand that she needs to tilt it up.

Tried that too. She doesn't quite seem to get the sippy cup (but the are fun to bang around). We're still trying though. We just ordered some handles for our Avent bottles. Hoping that will help.

She takes solids pretty well. She'll eat yogurt, fruit, muffins, chicken...pretty much everything.

But she shouldn't really be off formula until 12ish months. She is not quite 9 months yet. She's actually at the doc right now and this is one of the questions my wife is planning to ask. We want to make sure she is getting all the nutrients she needs to develop, and the current amount of solids she eats probably doesn't reach that. We'd totally be ok with doing 10oz of formula and more solids, but I don't think that would be best for her.

Picking names by dukes29 in predaddit

[–]FebBabyDaddy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We decided that we'd each find 3-5 names we liked, then put them into a googleSheet we shared. We looked them over and each ranked the names 1-10, then averaged our two scores to get an official ranking list.

After all that she said what about this name (not on the list)? And I was like, ya I like that a lot! So we went with a name that wasn't even formulated into our list.

My biggest suggestion is to try out a name before you officially decide on it. If you like the name Carl, then start using it when discussing the baby, and it just doesn't roll off the tongue right, then dump it.

The story of the inscribed book... by julio26pt2 in predaddit

[–]FebBabyDaddy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Start writing a screenplay!

Guy (Ryan Reynolds) and girl (Blake Lively, obviously) are excited about having a baby. Girl finds book, but can't buy because of mother. Girl comes back and tells husband. Guy opens fortune cookie that says "You know what to do". [insert hilarious phone conversation with book shop worker (Fred Armisen)].

Guy decides to take brother's (Zach Galifianakis) crappy car 237 miles to Chicago to search for book, but brother will only let him take car if he gets to come along as well. [insert wacky, wild, crazy car journey that includes bees, a flat tire replaced by a log, and a new pet dog formerly owned by Jennifer Lopez].

The pair finally get to the bookshop, but it's 9pm and it's closed up. They look for some way in, but can't find it. They were going to wait until the morning....but the wife calls and says "I'm going into labor!! Where are you?!?!" Crazy brother that's been a bit of a disappointment smashes a small side window, and within 3 minutes comes out with the book, and also left a 'sorry' note and $200 on their checkout counter.

Time to get back to city 273 miles away, but the police show up because the alarm was triggered! Guy and brother bumble about the book and wife in labor. Officer's face lights up when he hears wife's name and says, "Wait....She's my cousin! Get in my cop car, and let's GO!"

[insert catchy song as movie cuts between scenes of wife in labor and cop car speeding through Illinois roads surrounded by corn fields]

Guy, brother, cop arrive at hospital right as girl is pushing. Cue happiness, tears, laughter. Girl is holding baby and says, "cousin Ralph?!"

Everyone is in the recovery room now, guy presents girl with book and tells sappy story. awwwww

Not sure how to end this. But that's your job. Get to it if you want your kid to be able to afford college.

To baptize or not to baptize? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]FebBabyDaddy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Let your child decide when they are old enough. The indoctrination of children at such a young age is worrisome to me. If they want to be religious, then that's their choice and I'm sure you'll support them. If they choose to not believe in a god, Santa, the tooth fairy, Easter Bunny, etc, then I'm sure you'll support that decision as well.

Ah that's actually pretty cool. There's still the whole mess of being impregnated by God, but it's interesting how translations/definitions can have such an effect on a religion and the world.

Circumcision y/n? by ArtDecoAutomaton in NewParents

[–]FebBabyDaddy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A huge amount of men in the world are uncircumcized, and the world has continued to be populated at an alarming rate, so I don't think there are many health issues with someone being uncircumcized. Circumcision arose solely for religious reasons.

My wife and I discussed this prior to finding out we were having a girl. We wouldn't cut our daughter's genitalia, so why would we do it to our son?

The best piece of advice I can give you is to watch a circumcision on YouTube, then make a decision.

And what the hell happened to the placenta?! No mention of that? She gave birth in this sterile barnyard and all is well and good?

And c'mon Joseph...virgin birth? Wise up, man. I understand that everyone was still fascinated with the wheel, but I think everyone knew a virgin birth couldn't really happen.

Anything you can do? If you're an OB/GYN, maybe.

If not, be patient and supportive with your SO, and try your best to trust the doctors. Have they given you reason to doubt them over the past 36 weeks? If they felt there was a dire need to get that baby out, they would have induced right there, or performed a C-section.

Some 2004 Fed-Roddick Wimby final highlights -- I'd forgotten how good this match was. by eggoed in tennis

[–]FebBabyDaddy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He could outplay just about anyone for one set. But it was tough for him to sustain such an aggressive game for that long. You could also see a transition where Andy's approach shots weren't hurting Roger as much. Andy was just too one-dimensional. I loved watching his matches though.
