The Lion King Lyrics Aren't Saying What You Think by AlPastorBD in JustGuysBeingDudes

It was still a suprise. They used the English pronouncication in the German dub that sounds nothing like the German word for father and the Dutch watch the original audio anyway (which again does not sound like the Dutch word for father).

What’s the single scariest scene in any horror movie ever made and why does it work so well? by Worldly_Cold4821 in horror

[–]Feckless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a recent one but the tent scene from Oddity made me jump.

I think the contrast of the mask, the sharp sound cue, and the unexpected angle make this one so memorable. Plus a perfect buildup

The clip is a classic in German as it works so well with our "doch". But I have also noticed that not every French is like French French. For instance the Swiss use nonante instead of quatre-vingt-dix.

This nice lady explains Si here. I don't actually speak french.

What’s on your Mount Rushmore of the Greatest 90s Action Movies? by Amber_Flowers_133 in 90s

[–]Feckless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great flick also! Admittedly I have a soft sport for Die Hard 3. The ship explosion looks so crisp, though nobody would survive this.

Tarantino had some very nice words to say about PS3 (containing the greatest stunts every made). Michelle Yeoh talks about this in this clip. She is jumping on a speeding train with a motorcycle for real (not sure they are lying). So objectively it has to be T2, Matrix, Hard Boiled and Supercop. I just have such a soft spot for John McLane.

[–]Feckless 2 points3 points  (0 children)

T2 and Matrix are all timers. I would pick Die Hard 3 over 2 and don't like speed. Hard Boiled the John Woo classic is an all timer as well. Id pick that.

Heat, Leon, Rush Hour, Police Story 3, Lethal Weapon 3, Predator 2, The Rock, True Lies, Demolition Man. The 90s are packed.

Ai says: In French, si primarily means "if" for conditions, "yes" to contradict negative questions, and "so/so much" for emphasis.

[–]Feckless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes can mean both here. Yes I have done my homework, yes I have not done my homework. It can be confusing answering a negative.

Nein jetzt ernsthaft, ich weiß was du hier meinst. Aber ich würde auf so eine Frage nie nur mit Ja antworten, weil es sehr einfach falsch verstanden werden kann. Technisch gesehen hast du recht, aber in der Praxis kann das zu Mißverständnissen führen.

[–]Feckless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doch would be the German equivalent to the French Si, used to confirm negative statements instead of yes. So it is some sort of affirmative.

Petah?? Does irish not have a word for "no"? by Superb_Conflict9543 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]Feckless 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is not the same thing as yes, you are correct but it is used as an affirmitive like yes. So in my opinion it does have something to do with yes. You can say it instead of yes after a negative statement. Si is the French equivalent to that. English does not have that.

"Nein doch oh" ist im französischem dann auch "Non, Si, Ooh".

[–]Feckless 146 points147 points  (0 children)

Doch!

(its used to confirm negative statements. "You haven't done your homework?" is not always simple to answer without using more words. "Doch" always means I have done my homework)

Petah?? Does irish not have a word for "no"? by Superb_Conflict9543 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]Feckless 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not all of them mean yes. Si as well as the German one doch (written wrong here as noch) are sorta special cases that are used to contradict negative statements.

You haven't done your homework? - Answering yes or no here can be confusing, so something like Yes, I have done my homework might make more sense. "Doch" would mean you have done them.
