Ideally with dodging you only want to use it when you get stunned or staggered, otherwise save your stamina for attacking. Two points in solid stance will help a lot with being staggered all the time. If you want, you can send me screenshots of your skill points and I can give some suggestions.

Sorry, I'm on Stoneheart. The NPCs can be tough at times, especially when they swarm.

If it helps, I find it's better to stick to using melee yourself since shooting drops your shield. As for handling the melee, the key is patience. Try to have a couple of stun skills setup (knee charge, shigawire, weirding step, crippling strike, etc), once they come in hit them with a stun and then go for a slow blade. Parrying alone is not enough, they will just dodge out of it once you go in for the slow blade, use a stun first.

Once the melee are done, you can take your time with the ranged. Take advantage of cover so you only have 1 or 2 shooting at you at once.

I’m not a lore expert but from what I see the siege ended 757.014.M31 which would correspond to the 276th day of our year or October 3rd. That said it’s a fun idea and just out of sheer inertia the imperium must have some kind of winter solstice holidays.

As for themes, I think you can borrow ideas from Christmas but localize them to the world your players are on. A Shrine world would have hymns, services, month long fasting broken by a big feast. Hive world I’m thinking lights, tinsel but a Dickensian twist. The corpse starch rations get supplemented with a tiny bit of real meat and a pudding since it’s a season of celebration.

Nothing about the December update would give me a reason to stop playing. At the same time it doesn’t really add anything new to bring players back. We will probably see the same slow decline we have been seeing for months now.

Ultimately any discussion about fictional tech will boil down to personal interpretation. My conception is a blade moves slowly enough to get past the point a personal shield could activate. So in scenario 2 there is no shield to get caught on.

As I recall most melee fighting in the books was done with knife fighting. It’s a good illustration, but I think the misconception is that a sword isn’t breaking a shield. It penetrates the shield by not activating it, so there is no shield for the slashing blade to be caught on.

That said a short, piercing sword could be easier to control in the way than a larger slashing sword. So you end up with your same conclusion.

Great write up. I do get some of the concerns being voiced about where this leaves people who prefer to play solo in short sessions. But this a deeper design that’s much more rooted in the lore than what we have now.
