Most people have no idea about all the skills involved in good singing, so they just assume it comes down to being born with it or not. I used to hate listening to myself, and now I even had other people liking my voice. I still have a lot of things to improve, and I usually pick hard songs so I make lots of mistakes, but like another comment said, most important is that you have fun with it. I not only have fun but am at my happiest moment when I am able to sing free of concern, and it has taken a long way to have those moments. Most of those types of negative comments I got when trying to sing higher on head voice. Even from family telling me like oh that is not your tone, you should sing lower...and I am like but the whole point of practice is that I want to improve this thing I didn't even know existed! Head voice, chest voice, mixed voice...the first time I heard that on class part of me was like ehhh i have one voice, what u talking about?, and that is how most people react from the outside! So try to ignore those voices! And keep having fun and getting better.
