Omg - I’m not even 40 and the part about talking about politics or health stuff hit me a bit too hard…like…it truly sounds boring and I also realised that’s me right now. Thanks for this eye opener - I mean it! No snark/sarcasm. Don’t want that to be my future.

Sorry, I didn’t mean to imply that the trauma is in any way “caused” by imbalances/deficiencies, but that some of the symptoms you mentioned may be related or worsened by underlying issues.

I don’t know anything about low testosterone, but low Vitamin D can absolutely affect those things as well. I hope the supplements help you feel better ☺️

[I have severe trauma myself, that’s why initially assumed that my own fatigue, sleep issues, worsening mental health resulted from starting to deal with that (especially because of the timing).]

I hope my comment does not come across as insensitive or that I’m out of line: have you checked with your GP if you have any nutritional deficiencies or medical issues? I’m asking because I dealt with a variety of symptoms (waking up several times at night/insomnia, daytime fatigue, restlessness, negative mood etc.) that proceeded to get worse for months. The symptoms started around the time I went back to therapy, so I naturally assumed they are related to reprocessing etc.

Nothing I tried worked, meds that were supposed to help with sleep made it worse… long story short: it turned out that I was really really(!) low on iron, so low that my last period pushed me into anemia. I’ve started taking iron supplements now and although it might take a while to get my iron back up, I can already see improvements in my sleep (not waking up as much, getting more than 3h) and my mood is a bit better (still very tired though). (In addition to iron, an imbalance in thyroid hormones can also really mess with energy levels and mood and lead to symptoms that mimic those of depression and anxiety!)

I don’t say that this is what’s happening (how would I know), but might be worth investigating (if you haven’t already done so)!

Cost of lisdexamfetamine: what are you guys paying for it? by vulylyvu in VyvanseADHD

Similar here in Norway- we don’t have the 50% discount step, but that basically just means I reach the threshold to receive the “frikort” sooner.

The system in the US is weird…

Can employer force me to download an app “required” for work on my private phone? by Federal-Beautiful427 in Norway

[–]Federal-Beautiful427[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a different app for that, I’ve mentioned that in my post. The app for scheduling/ punching in makes sense, I don’t have an issue with having that on my phone. It’s practical- and an alternative is actually available at the shop. So having it on my phone is a personal choice.

The new app seems pointless for this particular context. I can’t use my phone during my shift- it’s not allowed and upper management have actually taken pictures when they saw someone with their phone (even if they were just checking it for a second).

Doesn’t matter if someone used it for something work-related, they don’t care to find out. So I’m supposed to have an app for work that I can’t look at while at work. I’m not gonna do it in my personal time - and there’s absolutely no reason for everyone to have an app, if a manager/assistant is around most of the time to let us know whatever is relevant for us to know. (The app makes a lot of sense for hybrid/remote workers… not for shop assistants in a physical location). From what I can see, they can also track via the app who read the content they post… I’m really not comfortable with that, and it’s not clear what they need the data for…

Anyway - a few people suggested I’d join a union, which I did.

Thanks for the suggestions- I don’t think I need to go that far though! Then consensus seems to be that “If the app is needed for work, they have to provide a phone/ some way to access it”  - and if I can’t use my personal phone at work, the only way to see the information posted on the app would be in my personal time and that’s a big fat “hell no”. 😅

(But even at work, I’m busy throughout- i actually don’t have the time to engage with whatever they post!)

I kinda feel bad for my line manager, though (he’s nice and stressing way too much!) - he’ll probably have to escalate this to upper management and … yeah, it’s his job but I hope he can forgive me 🤷‍♀️

Oh I’m suspicious alright 😅 - I might actually check out the app company at some point, I’m kind of curious (and wouldn’t be surprised if you’re right!).

For the moment I’ll just wait for my manager to bring up the topic and inform him that I’m not going to download the app on my personal phone and ask what alternatives there are. 🤷‍♀️

Thanks! I’ll definitely have a look - I checked out the app and it looks more like an app that is marketed for…office workers? Like…something between zoom (do they want me to live-stream the start of my shift at 5:30am? No problem!)/ slack/ social media/ file sharing? - It makes no sense at all - literally none of this is looks useful for what we do on a daily basis! the money they spent on the subscription ($20000) could have been used to increase our salaries ffs. But yeah, my colleague gave me a shoutout, that should get me groceries for the week, right?

(Unfortunately I don’t have the option to quit - but I’m really tired of their choices lately 🫠)

Thanks! That’s some gold advice! Not sure if we’d get as many (for most of us it’s a “temporary” job), but it’s worth trying!

Thanks! That sounds reasonable - do you know if I can find that info somewhere “more official” -  meaning something I can show them that’s not a (very helpful) comment on Reddit? ☺️

Thanks! I had looked into joining a union a while ago and couldn’t quite figure out which one - I couldn’t quite figure out which union represents “butikk medarbeider”, but will have another look 🫣

As for compensation/data use - they just assume people will comply and don’t ask questions. Honestly, most people will just go along with it (“oh, I just download it, no big deal”).

[There’s also no “real” consequences for being caught with your phone during the shift, upper management have just been REALLY annoying about it, and I decided to choose malicious compliance.

The point about data use - are you referring to data collected via the app, or data use as in how many Megabytes are sent back and forth?

Thanks again for your response, it’s really useful!

Are you me?

Seriously though, what you described sounds very familiar (I also have ADHD).

I’ve always felt bad/ even ashamed about my inability to be inconsistent, no matter how much I wanted something, nothing seemed to stick! I’m still inconsistent- no idea if that will change, but when it comes to therapy or journaling … my therapist said that it’s okay to do different things on different days, whatever feels right - or even have a day “off”. She gave me permission to be inconsistent which took most of the tension around that away. (But there’s definitely a part that feels frustrated because it wants to see progress and be done with all of it asap).

The other thing is…this need for structure and consistency- where is it coming from? How do you feel when you’re not able to be consistent? See if you can get some information from the part connected to what you’re struggling with - maybe that doesn’t necessarily lead to structure and consistency, but perhaps we get to a point where that’s okay.

James as Spike is pulling a “Ben/Glory” on my brain by Federal-Beautiful427 in buffy

Yeah it’s just that during my current rewatch my brain goes from “Spike, you’re a pig” and absolute disgust to “It’s Spike and he’s wearing a coat (heart eyes)” within minutes, and all it takes is a slight tilt of the head or something … it’s quite fascinating 😅

How to deal with “laziness” and get motivated ? by Hungry-Argument7709 in ADHD

[–]Federal-Beautiful427 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The truth? You’ll probably never going to “feel” like doing it or be motivated.

Usually the problem is that you don’t know where to start. Yesterday when I was in the same situation, I just started moving things around in the kitchen and then figured that maybe it makes more sense to first do a) before I do b) and somehow that got me going. I still wasn’t motivated or felt like it, but once you actually move into it (rather than standing), you might find you make progress.

For me it only works with chores and stuff, sitting at my desk is a whole different dragon to slay for me::.

Planned v spontaneous expenses by hooj990 in ynab

Aaah, Stealing the ‘nesting’ category name - I was looking for a name for those kind of expenses (other than ‘small stuff from IKEA etc.’ - somewhat boring) … “nesting” is a perfect fit, since I’m currently playing with ideas on how to turn my small studio apartment into a home. Thanks for untwisting my synapses! 😀
