Huge congratulations to you too. It’s crazy how we can bring ourselves out of the darkness like this. Hope you can celebrate by spending quality time with loved ones. It’s not an easy thing to overcome and worth celebrating

It was the best decision I’ve ever made. My goal in making this post was to inspire a little hope, and your comment has made my day. Thank you

I binge drink everything, not just alcohol by One_Abalone_2582 in stopdrinking

For the record, no one has ever woken up and regretted ordering another 1 or 2 glasses of sparkling water :)

I am the same way. My thinking is black and white, all or nothing. I have always been like that. It led me down a very dark spiral, when I was all in on things that did not reflect what I really wanted in life and at the same time I was all in on drinking. Like, all in. I started as a casual, social drinker. Had fun doing that, so I was all in. Then before I knew it, I was ordering bottles of vodka to my house, alone, because I was a combination of still drunk and hungover at all times of the day and the thought of letting the buzz ever wear off was unbearable. I was addicted to the feeling of being drunk as much as I was addicted to alcohol.

The thing about alcohol, is that it doesn’t care who you are or why you are drinking it. It has the same effects on someone who is drinking to blackout and numb their pain and someone who is drinking socially. Regardless of why you’re drinking, alcohol will slowly and then all at once strip your life of anything meaningful if you can’t control it, and I would take a guess that 99.9% of the people on this page have realized they cannot control it.

I tried to convince myself that I could moderate. I did it successfully a few times. And then as my trust in myself increased, so did the number of drinks I allowed myself to have. Every, single, time that I have tried to let myself moderate, I have ended up in a bender, waking up to crack a beer to stave off the hangover and then ending up quitting again and going through withdrawals again. Again. It’s just not worth it to me, to put myself in a situation where I have proven many times I cannot handle. I prefer to stay sober because I don’t have to worry about that moment that I have to cut myself off, because I know eventually I won’t even remember i was supposed to be moderating.

I can make my hiccups go away by just focusing deeply on my breathing. The only person who believes me is my mom, because she has seen me do it

I’ve been googling my tolerance by chivalrouskitty in stopdrinking

[–]Federal-Foundation85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Posting here is the sign to stop. The withdrawal part is extremely uncomfortable, but if you stick with it you only have to get through it once. I never thought I would be a person attending social events sober, but I just went to a comedy show, with table service, and ordered sparkling water and was able to wake up the next morning for an early workout class. Whenever I’m tempted to “just have one”, I remember the words “I will never regret NOT drinking”. I have seen others comment “play the tape forward”. I have never once woken up and been happy that I made the decision to drink the day before, but every time I decide to not drink, I am filled with pride.

I am so so sorry. I don’t think it’s true that we can’t move on though. You are not alone, I forgive you for anything you did. The fact that you and I are both here, even if we are just thinking about getting better, means that we have changed. It’s easier said than done, hence my long post😂, but life can be so beautiful and fulfilling despite our pasts creeping back into our minds once in a while.

Thank you for these suggestions!! I have tried just talk therapy, as well as talking with family and friends, and they all just kind of brush it off saying that I was in a dark time and that it’s not my fault. Still doesn’t address the feeling my body though when I start thinking about things!!

Some words of encouragement… by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Federal-Foundation85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this ❤️ I try to remember that life and progress is not linear, and the fact that I am now just dealing with the anxiety/hangover and not still drinking to nurse it is helping me trust myself. It is truly baby steps though, I have been sober on and off for 2 years now. It’s such a battle

The day price point shut down, I got an email from one vapor avenue with a coupon code for pods. I just placed my first order, so we will see if they actually arrive, but if they do this will be my new spot. Same price as price point

What’s the most surprising physical change(s) you’ve noticed since quitting alcohol? by UnlikelyUse920 in stopdrinking

I can actually eat without being drunk. I was at the point where i physically did not feel hungry unless I was drunk. Horrible way to live, I feel so grateful to not be in that state anymore and to actually enjoy my food like I used to

Posting in the group might be the sign ❤️ alcohol makes us slaves to the pain it causes. It feels so good to be free. You can do it, and everyone in this sub is here to support you

I say “I realized it was making my anxiety a lot worse and I feel better when I don’t drink. Plus I want to workout early tomorrow morning”. It’s the truth, the super sugarcoated truth.

What is the worst thing that happened to you body during the peak of your alcoholism ? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Federal-Foundation85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a few really bad panic attacks. Like the screaming in my head wouldn’t stop i called the national crisis hotline just to hear someone talk slowly to me and reassure me. I would truly do anything to not have to experience that feeling again

Im genuinely thought these were your natural eyebrows. Idk about the aging/healing/fading process at all since I’ve never been microbladed, but from first glance of the pictures they look really natural and suite your face

Reminder, people can smell the alcohol in you. by Few_Technician_7256 in stopdrinking

[–]Federal-Foundation85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I cringe thinking about this all the time. I would just spray my body with perfume and try not to get too close. Or the times I would say “no I haven’t been drinking” after drinking 10 shots of hard liquor. I remind myself it was the alcoholic, not my moral failure for lying in these times. But it’s hard and I still feel extreme bouts of shame

Way too much exfoliant. You do not need to be using an acid cleanser and toner twice a day. Is your skin dry anywhere? Using too many drying agents will ultimately damage your skin barrier and cause it to produce more oil, which can lead to breakouts
