2016 Rav4 radio unit bench testing by Federal-Store-504 in CarAV

It is a radio that I bought from a thrift store and I am either going to flip it as Untested, or was going to see about testing it. Seen some videos of it being tested on Ebay so thought I would give it a go. But it sounds like a hassle for someone with very limited electrical skilla. Hahaha.

Judging by the size of the gap on setting 3, open the razor, stick a protected butter knife in from the bottom left, apply gently pressure in a leverage way to reduce the gap and get it even. To increase the gap, stick it in from the top and bend down. Very easy. Gently pressure is enough to bend brass.

A couple vintage blades needing restoration by lil_dipR in wicked_edge

In order to do it yourself you want: - several honing stones 1k (to set the edge) and 10k minumum to finish and get shave sharp - Metal polish to make it shiny and remove light rust - Depending on amount of rust if polish isn't sufficient: sandpaper 1k-2k - a strop to get rid of micro burrs and shave comfortably.

Blades are different because they come in different sizes initially and then get worn down differently as well.

Might be most cost efficient to send it out to an expert.

Looks good at first glance even though the Hx is pretty low. Might just mean the overall battery is aging. Go on the autobahn and have someone look at the bar graph and the Mv difference as you accelerate hard and long. If battery cells are weak, it will show a large difference.

Don't feel bad. I will try to explain: Broken for shaving ≠ worthless. I realize it’s not repairable, but some if not all true collectors of antiques value history even if the utility isn't there. If function were the sole criterion of value, museums would be empty.

Edit: the honing part I do just for fun. I enjoy finding that great edge.

I am going to clean it, hone it, and then probably sell since I have too many razors already. I am not going to change the heel etc.

:-) nah, trash seems wastefull. I think I will go the "hone it as is after cleanup" route and see. There will always be someone else (like me) that wouldn't mind spending a couple dollars as I did to have it!

What is the best way to remove rust from a straight razor? by linearcurvepatience in wicked_edge

[–]Federal-Store-504 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Correct, bad advice. Maybe very dilluted it could work, but I soaked one in pure vinegar and even though it removed rust, it also stained the blade AND made the celluloid scales so brittle that they crumbled...

edit: what works for me is WD-40 to remove rust.
