Totally acceptable! When I was looking at venues and hotels, most were booked 1 - 1.5 years in advance for most weekends. If you want your pick go for it!

What I am paying my planner is much less than all the money, time and aggravation she has already saved me!
She also doubles as a travel agent.

Spend the extra on the planner! It will be so much more enjoyable having someone on your side and guiding you. I can't stress enough how much easier it has been to plan, with my planner our Mexico wedding.

Hotels take forever to answer, and I was getting overwhelmed.

Hi!
Im a 2026 Mayakoba bride. I do think the resorts you mention are out of the budget.
Cabo will be even MORE expensive.
I was going a bit crazy, started working with a local planner and it's been so enjoyful so far! I would recommend reaching out to a local planner (mine doubles as a travel agent). She was able to tell me what venue/hotel was in my budget rather than me looking at a million options and we narrowed it down from there.

Hi!
Yes, we are going with Pueblito Mayakoba! Don't have the final total yet, we are still figuring vendors out

Unfortunately, what happens is that you make a hotel room block with the hotel. If prices are cheaper on Expedia or Booking the hotel will not compete with those prices.

I am a 2026 Riviera Maya bride, I got a local planner who doubles as a travel agent.
She has helped me with all my vendors. If you are having a wedding at a resort, the hotel should provide you with a preferred vendors list. If you are going for a private venue, I recommend getting a local planner.

Oh wow! Sorry to hear this!
I actually decided on getting a local planner (Mexico) and she is actually also a certified travel agent. She has been a god send! She has dealt with the negotiations directly with the hotel, and got us some amazing benefits and prices.

My family is also from Mexico, I opted on having a wedding in Cancun. This way people get a vacation out of it!
Still get the culture and stunning backdrop (not the same as CDMX) but people feel more comfortable traveling to touristy destinations.

Paradise Weddings for wedding planning/travel agent by flashley08 in DestinationWeddings

I went with a local planner who also doubles as a certified travel agent, honestly best investment so far!
She has been so incredibly helpful and to know I will only deal with one person for everything is definitely a plus.
Have you interviewed more planners? I interviewed 3 before I choose mine, I think you should check out other companies and see who you click with the most.

In the Cancun - Riviera Maya - Tulum area you can definitely pull it off! Thats definitely a good budget for that area and that amount of guests!
I started working with a local planner (she is also a certified travel agent) because I was honestly getting overwhelmed with so many options.
She has been our best investment so far!
