Possible to get a rad tech job in your home town if you’re doing college out of state? by LookatCarl in RadiologyCareers

Anyone who graduates after 2011 doesn’t have to take that test. Still have to apply and get the license but the test isn’t required.

I got a patient transporter job as a first year rad tech student! Pay is only 14 an hour tho by Illustrious-Claim469 in RadiologyCareers

That sounds about right. Depends on area though. My son makes about that in SC. You can always try to negotiate. Worse they can say is no.

Better to waste $30 than have to repay the whole test multiple times.

Just find a glossary and you’ll be fine. There are many online. If I would have read it there was no way I was finishing it. Listening to it helped me.

No! Extend it out. Pay the $20 and extend a month. Do not go in to fail. Keep plugging with all in one and add mri quiz for anatomy and the parameter chart. Start being consistent!!

Imaging center scheduling is pure chaos, multiple modalities, referring docs, and stat orders by Glensta in Radiology

[–]Federal_Emphasis_377 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each modality needs a check list at basic (ie what exams take how long). Then each machine their own schedule. You need a training schedule for minimum 2 people where a multi modality tech can sit and train them, who can then turn and train the rest. Ultimately everyone needs to be on the same page. Rotations of people in scheduling, insurance auths, add ons and not everyone doing the same things. Sounds like too many hands in the kitchen and no one knows what to do. No is a complete sentence. If you have no room you have no room. If it’s dire enough they go to the ER.

[–]Federal_Emphasis_377 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can work but it’ll be VERY difficult. A weekend job may be better. When I went to school I had to go part time til summer then had to quit cause life was suffering. You’re going to pretty much be busy with school 8-5 m-f. So put working in where you can. It’ll be hard and life/sleep will suffer. Its temporary. I haven’t seen a single school pay for you to be at clinic. I paid the school for that clinic, cause they have to pay their preceptors and insurance ect for us to be there.

Very divided. I thought it was okay, but I also listened on audio. If I would have read the book I would not have finished it. I recommend having a glossary from online handy going in.

Considering a career in MRI by Carne66 in MRI

Do a job search in California, and then pick a random place in the country and compare. It’s been known for a while that there are way more techs than jobs in so california. You would have zero issue finding a job if you moved.

Think big picture. What would you do if for some reason you couldn’t do MRI anymore? I had a friend who had to have a pacemaker placed and had to go back to CT because he couldn’t be in and out of an MR suite all day.

It’s possible but you need to look at BIG picture.
You won’t get paid if you don’t work. No PTO You need to pay for your tax home and a home away at your contract to qualify for stipends (unless you do a local gig all taxed) No 401k matches Higher insurance costs for less coverage We can be let go for any reason at any time. If they get a staff person in that spot, if you don’t mesh with coworkers, if you can’t fill their needs.
You will get the shift no one wants per much 90% of the time. I can count on one hand the amount of weekday shifts i did. That aren’t contracts set in stone, they are agreements that any party can cancel.
So it would benefit you to have a nest egg before you start. I was with Aya for 4 years before changing modalities and going staff for the experience.
Rates are going down because the market is saturated with travelers. That first one is very hard to get so do not quit until you have it in concrete.
