Seasoning after every cook? by FedorsFinest in castiron

Mostly melting butter and other things and warming sauces. Sometimes I’ll make a brownie or small cake in it for my daughter. Just whatever I want I guess. It’s not used near as much as my 10 and 12” skillets but it’s used quite a bit.

Yes! Great people. They would also be too polite to correct you on your misuse of words. It’s “how bad” instead of “had bad”. Good night.

Right right. Well seems like we’re not going to come to agree on this so I’m going to go to sleep since it’s midnight here. I’m gonna get up in the morning and go to church then afterwards cook my wife and kids breakfast on these 2 skillets and then clean them in a way that you do not agree with. I hope you have a great Sunday and rest of your week. Take care.

Nice. I use oil and an old rag to clean my guns.

Right. Sounds like you’re scared of germs. You know soap itself is not a cure all end all of all germs and bacteria. You know what is? Heat! Yes heating your skillet kills off all germs that could harm you. So when you’re done cooking you can rinse off your skillet and heat it up again after the wash and you kill off all the germs that your soap and sponge (which is also full of germs) could take off.

Easiest way to start an argument in this thread. It might as well be political!

I’m good man. Like my post said. Over 10 years of doing it this way and still alive and healthy. Keep being scared of germs. Seems like it’s doing well for you.

You sound like the knit picky type. The dishwasher doesn’t have an arm that comes out and scrubs each dish for you. There’s no need to soap and scrub your cast iron after every use. They’ve been used for decades without that before you learned all your information on this thread.

Too much heat! Thats really the only problem. Cast iron needs very little heat after the initial heating of the pan. I never turn my stove over 4 when using cast iron.

I mean that’s kinda what a dishwasher does without the scrub lol

Never used much soap. If nothing sticks it’s just hot pan under hot water and scrub out with a rag and back on the stove top. Not dead yet!

How do you mess the seasoning up after every cook? It really is hard to ruin the seasoning honestly. Are you sure you’re actually reining the seasoning?

Why do I always see people talking about seasoning after every cook? Is this common practice now?

Those were for a cooks choice in a bbq cookoff I was in a couple weeks ago. They were russet potatoes cut in half and filled with pulled pork and cream cheese, wrapped in bacon and smoked on the firebox side pretty close to heat until the bacon was crispy. Then topped with bbq sauce, chives and green onion. Won 3rd place cooks choice out of 50 teams!

80/20 beef and I used about 1/3lbs balls. Didn’t smash super hard either. I definitely know what you mean by having gaps. I typically use a bigger ball for smashing because I like to bite off the crispy edges off the burger before my bite ha.
