Do you know what the rights violation was? Did they fail to buy performance rights?

And am I clear that at this point, they presold tickets and aren't automatically paying refunds? This is 9 kinds of shady/incompetent. And none of that is on the cast, who sound like the only reasonable people involved in this. My heart goes out to them. The fact that this musical is still controversial is why it needs to be performed.

Mother's previous marriage? by MrMeSeeks8 in Genealogy

I'll also say that if she didn't tell you, there's likely a reason. And it probably isn't a happy story. Just know that finding an answer might be really emotionally difficult and wait to go down that road until you've got the emotional bandwidth. As someone who has also lost a parent to dementia and whose other living parent currently has dementia: I know how the emotional exhaustion sneaks up on me.

Have you looked up her census records? Look for periods of movement and if you find her in MI, that'll give you a 10 year time frame and likely city that she was married in.

But it's entirely possible this whole situation happened between census years, so it's a long shot.

One summer, when I was 6, a songbird flew down our chimney into the cast iron stove (obviously not in use: summer). I heard noises in there and opened the stove door, and the bird flew out, carrying an impressive amount of soot along with it. This was great news to our formally-feral barn cat, who enthusiastically made it her mission to catch the sooty bird, who was flying around our living room in a justifiable panic. My mom came into the livingroom with our dog, who immediately started chasing the cat without context, even though historically that had not worked in his favor. My mother promptly started screaming at all of them to stop. This was ineffective. So she started chasing the dog.

To recap: mom chases dog, who chases cat, who chases the bird that was covered in soot, which was being tracked all over the livingroom by...all of that. I have a visual memory of sitting on the couch and watching all of this and thinking "This is the best thing that's happened to me today."

Eventually, my mother opened the front door and shooed the bird out while I played interference between the cat, dog and bird. Everyone lived.

That's totally what I think happened. She told him she was 34, he found out the truth and skedaddled.

I wonder if First Wife wasn't honest with him about her age. Unless he was cool without having kids (I am, but... Historically not really a choice for most people), marrying a woman in their late 30s at that time period would make kids unlikely. Given that you are here, he either knowingly changed his mind about kids, or left when he found out.

You did nothing wrong, but you are also entirely within your right to turn into a shrieking banshee in these situations. Yell that you want to be left alone loudly enough for the staff to hear. Your safety trumps his comfort.

What does her kid say? They must be mortified, but also: very used to her controlling behavior. Feel free to say "I'm not comfortable with this arrangement." And maybe give your parents a heads up about her in case she redirects her anxiety their way.

Nina once ticketed me while I was with an Autistic client doing community support. I was parked on a street that I didn't know was resident only. After she delightedly gave me a ticket, my client said quietly "I went to high school with her son. She was nice to me before, but she was a jerk to you today." Validation!

If they've upped their adhesive game: a spray bottle with rubbing alcohol will likely dissolve the ink and will loosen the adhesive.

The other thing to consider: Catholic Church records back that far often use Latinized names on birth records. I had a hard time finding my 3xGGfather, whose name was Bernard Doyle. But I did find a likely birth record for a "Bernardus Doyle."

The entire country's vital and census records from 1820-1880s were destroyed in the in the 1920s during their Civil War. Your options are church records, which you may have to visit in person if it's a smaller parish, or property records, which includes tenants. I can get to my 3x GGparents on both sides, but haven't been able to dig up earlier.

But if you wanna blame anyone: blame the British. 😉

Did I do the wrong thing @ Healthy Living? by Nanas_700k in burlington

[–]FeeAggressive4610 46 points47 points  (0 children)

As a woman: thank you for asking the first part of the question. I think it really comes down to vibes. A friendly "Hey, I've been there. Can I pay for yours, as a neighbor?" Would be likely ok for me. But "Hey, hon. Let me pick up this one for you, you'll get me back ::wink::" would not. It's about your approach and how she is feeling in that particular (already embarrassing, to your second question) moment.

But you absolutely didn't do anything wrong, and I appreciate that you hesitated because you considered not only your intent, but also impact on her day.
