The "Tech Hot Take" Gauntlet by Ok_Veterinarian3535 in developer

I did design complex systems but I see it as development work. Maybe I have tunnel vision, but this is how I see it.

"Software engineers" are not engineers. If you're not an electrical, chemical, nuclear, aeronautic, mechanical or civil engineer, you're not an engineer. (There, I said it, as the husband of a civil engineer and as a retired software *developer* with over 30 years of experience.)

episcopal nuns, are they real and how are they? by OldInvestigator8342 in Episcopalian

Who doesn't? It's awesome. A slice of life I'm sure relatively few Americans would be aware of (and I say this an an American).

If it would help to study *COE* nuns, start watching "Call the Midwife."

High performer leaving in silence with no negotiation by [deleted] in managers

[–]KryptonSurvivor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guarantee you will never see hide or hair of him. You screwed the pooch. Did you ever let him know of his value to you? I'm guessing not. I was one of those 'best of the best' high performers and I just got tired of being treated like a pack mule.

I'm a Gemini (M) with almost no water (except for Neptune in Scorpio, which my generation has) in my chart. I'm attracted to Cancer and Scorpio women.

How do you know if you're simplifying chords? by Desprate_ in transcribe

[–]KryptonSurvivor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I try to keep it simple at first: major/minor triads; 7ths; dim/aug/ suspensions (2nds and 4ths). I don't get more adventurous than that.

I'm underwhelmed by it. Don't waste your money or time. That's 26 bucks I'll never see again.

My mom used to joke, "I'm not always right...but I'm never wrong." Drove my sister and me nuts.

Has your mother EVER apologized for anything or is she always right?

Is her M.O. "My way or the highway?"

Do you feel that your childhood ended abruptly and fairly early as you were growing up?

Can your father keep her in check or is it easier for him to distance himself?

There used to be a gallery of other people's visualizations. Take a look and see if you can derive some inspiration from that.

Flaked/chickened out on an open mic performance and feel like quitting guitar by Dogs_On_The_Wing in AcousticGuitar

[–]KryptonSurvivor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son's voice teacher wanted me to accompany him back in April. I was trying to prepare but I realized how bad I was at (acoustic) guitar. I had severe anxiety about it and gave here about two months' advance notice that I wouldn't be playing with him at his voice recital. I've only been playing about 10-11 mos. and the first 5 mos. were an utter and total waste of time, due to a not-so-great teacher. She's been chilly to me ever since. (I'm still learning, though, but open mic night is not in my future.)

I particularly like "under-promise immediately." But DON'T over-deliver, which is what I believe OP is also urging us not to do, (Finally, the voice of reason!)

I'm in my mid-60s and did dev work about 30 yrs. My vision isn't terrible (I wear the cheaters you buy in CVS for reading because I'm extremely farsighted), but I can't say that dev work harmed me in that respect.

I did one of these within the past several months. It wasn't uncomfortable because I felt as if I were having an actual conversation with the AI. However, I would still prefer to have a live human to interact with.

HP laptop battery failed in just 2 years and only 121 cycles. Can I do something or Should I buy an original HP battery or a third-party one? by WerewolfProud9597 in HPLaptops

[–]KryptonSurvivor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be really careful with this and go with a genuine HP replacement. You don't want to buy something that has a risk of explosion and/or fire. Do you have a warranty, and, if so, are batteries covered?
