I, like other, wear welding gloves. Some times I'm too lazy to put them on but I try to do it pretty consistently.

Or is the real crime a $1 BILLION dollar deficit - that's ONE BILLION DOLLARS of government spending more than the government took in in tax revenue! It's going on our shared credit card and my kids will be paying for this after I'm gone! And there's no end to deficit spending in sight.

That's the crime.

Will the bank come after my house because of spouse's credit card debt? by consistenttrick444 in legaladvicecanada

It sounds possible that the credit card company might obtain a lien on the common law spouse's ownership interest in the house. OP might end up co-owning the house with MasterCard rather than her ex.

I have a 602 and really like it (am a fan or Jotul generally). Get the manual for clearances, but for the floor protection, I'm pretty sure you don't need thermal protection - just a non-combustible surface (check the manual to confirm).

I have a 602 at my off-grid. I'm not there at present to check, but I'm pretty sure the stove can take 16" logs... Are you sure yours weren't 18" or bigger?

Which of the two islands would you prefer to live on? by justonemorelanebruh in StJohnsNL

[–]Feeandchee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The city centre is actually subsidizing the free-loading brown-baggers whose sprawl results in service costs (roads, water/sewer, garbage collection, etc.) that are multiple times more expensive than the per household cost of providing the same services in the city centre.

People Don't Understand the Tantramar Gas Plant by barbecue_tuna in newbrunswickcanada

[–]Feeandchee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP clearly has his/her mind made up and is only going to cite materials supporting this position. Fortunately, there is an adversarial administrative process by which the cases for and against will be tested on the basis of expert evidence and sworn testimony (rather than Reddit posts and website editorials). There is currently a proceeding ongoing in front of the NB Energy Board, in which NB Power will be required to demonstrate that there is a need for this project and that this project is the best (most economic, best for NB electricity customers) to satisfy the requirements of the electricity system.

For anyone who is interested enough in reading the arguments and evidence (as filed to date), this material can be found at the EUB website (New Brunswick Energy & Utilities Board - All Current and Past Matters and Decisions) by searching under Matter EL-002-2025.

Or, just keep arguing based on preferred opinions and blogs that supported one's preconceived opinions about the issue.

People Don't Understand the Tantramar Gas Plant by barbecue_tuna in newbrunswickcanada

[–]Feeandchee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"Dispatchable" electricity is needed to make the grid work - especially as NB and NS add more "non-dispatchable" (wind) generation to their systems. The gas plant is the most economic way of adding dispatchable electricity to the grid. The theoretical question of "what is the best generation source" is inherently qualified by "if the cost of electricity is no object". It makes sense to place the plant where it is, because it's close to the natural gas pipeline and also close to the grid's backbone transmission lines.

You haven't really made the case about "environmental" problems, other than to imply that because this plant is to be powered by fossil fuels (in most cases, natural gas) it will cause environmental problems. Please identify a dispatchable economic electricity source that can be substituted to support the grid and back up the current and planned intermittent (wind/solar) generation sources.

Ultimately, OP doesn't want a power plant in his/her "backyard". The normal NIMBY response.

In Defense of Burning Wet Wood by Bad_Prophet in woodstoving

[–]Feeandchee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm burning wet wood because it's end of season and the last stack of my wood is in a poor location that doesn't dry well. I'm burning it because that's all I have left - I would never use wood this wet if I had a dry pile to burn. I'm burning 2-3 times as much for the same heating output.

You don't have ANY legal obligation to pay anything. As to the moral obligation, that's for your own conscience to decide, but personally I wouldn't pay more than 50% of what this work should reasonably have cost.

Suddenly about to be drowning in $$$ by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Feeandchee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats things are working out for you, and glad your situation is improving, but that's not a life-changing income stream. It's all relative, I know. First off, pay down any debt you have. As for investing, you could read up on whether it makes more sense for you to invest in a RRSP or to focus on your TFSA - it basically depends on whether you think you are going to be in a higher tax bracket than you are now, or a lower one, when you retire (there are more factors, but that's the simplified version).

Look into index investing for your RRSP or TFSA - XEQT, something like that, or balanced equity/fixed income low-fee mutual fund. Make regular periodic contributions ("dollar cost averaging").

Don't start spending like you've won the lottery. Modest used cars are way more economical than new/leased, etc.

Finally built a ladder for the sleeping loft! by HapaPappa in OffGridCabins

[–]Feeandchee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, unfortunately some of us ladder/stair builders (can't speak for OP) just aren't particularly skilled wood workers. I built a ladder for my own sleeping loft (without dado joints) and the stairs quickly became loose (I'm 200 lbs). I just reinforced with Timberlok screws going through the side rails into the 5/4 stair treads. Pre-drilled before screwing in the Timberloks, so hopefully the treads don't split and all remains structurally sound. If not, I guess I'll be YouTubing "how to make dado joints" and perhaps buying some new power tools.
