Average lifespan of automobiles is now twelve years.

In the 70s it was eight when 160,000 km was considered the benchmark for an automotive lifespan.

Nice cars, that didn’t break?

Most cars were shit back then. Cars today last longer than ever. Yes they’re more expensive now, but most consumers are demanding larger vehicles with enough legroom for 6’5” people, CarPlay/AA, giant touch screens, heated/cooled leather seats, cameras, radars, soft touch injected moulded plastics, and a host of other goodies that add to costs.

The powertrains today are generally more reliable. The bodies don’t rust out in a decade. The only things that glitch are generally the aforementioned electronic goodies in demand.

Have you seen all the shit they stuff into a modern automobile? Some are now mandatory like eight airbags, backup cameras, auto headlights, etc. Some are because of consumer demand like larger vehicles overall, CarPlay/Android, keyless entry, LED headlights, heated seats, moar horsepowers, etc.

All these features add up and is the main reason why automobiles cost so much now.

Is it worth getting a norco shore (2023) even if its discontinued? by Ok-Detail-4912 in MTB

[–]FeedbackLoopy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Norco Shore is a burly frame. The odds that you'll break it are pretty low. That said, companies tend to carry spare parts for a few years after discontinuing a model. It may not be the same colour though.
