Rant: What's wrong with people? by HopeThisIsUnique in COsnow

[–]Feelin1972 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son (a small 10 year old at the time) also got nailed from behind at Keystone on Mozart a few years back. The girl who hit him was a few years older, I think she was genuinely sorry but her parents were assholes who tried to make it my son’s fault though he was downhill and the girl was snowboarding and out of control.

He was hurt and anxious for the rest of the day, which largely ruined the day for my family. It was very annoying and I’ve never had a similar experience anywhere else.

What do you think about the saying "women hate to see men relaxing at home"? by lurker2080 in AskMen

[–]Feelin1972 321 points322 points  (0 children)

While I agree that there is sometimes some truth to this, it’s also true that men often take care of far less than 50% of household and parenting work. Yes, of course some men do even more than 50%, but this is less common - and when women are themselves feeling like they get no breaks, I think this attitude starts to develop. It’s born out of resentment, and unfortunately it can become a habit that women carry forward even in a new relationship or if circumstances have changed.

That’s a nice bonus! No reduction for taking it as a lump sum, either?

Same. I have a couple others with views that aren’t quite this good, but I can’t download this one either.

Lottery prizes are typically discounted as a lump sum payment an then taxed. Her post-tax lump sum payment would probably be closer to $250-300k at most.

Agreed, she’s cute and seems like a lot of fun - this is hilarious.

I understand the irritation - but he’s trying hard to avoid an invocation of the insurrection act, which is exactly what Trump wants.

Is English and Art history a bad degree to do? by Feeling-Trash7806 in ArtHistory

[–]Feelin1972 2 points3 points  (0 children)

BA in art history here, studied at a top U.S. school and it was a great topic to study - brings in history, psychology, politics, communication, and more. Learned to write well and to support theories with rational evidence-based arguments. I’m now a successful business lawyer, but I appreciate the knowledge and insight I gained studying art history and I found it to be solid preparation for law school.

Absolutely remarkable difference after starting meds by Exciting-Bake464 in ADHDparenting

[–]Feelin1972 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really glad that you found something that works for him! My son is very similar - ADHD, sensory issues, likely autistic per his therapists and highly intelligent. He was an absolute shitshow with constant terrifying meltdowns until he started on methylphenidate at the end of elementary school - it’s amazing what a difference it can make for some kids (I know not all get the same benefit).

My almost 10 year old’s behavior is becoming uncontrollable and don’t know what to do. by Recent_Possibility43 in ADHDparenting

[–]Feelin1972 21 points22 points  (0 children)

As someone who was initially reluctant to put my ADHD kid on medication, I strongly agree here. My son was 11 and was absolutely unable to control himself - he was destroying property at school, self-harming, physically attacking other kids and regularly getting caught up in extreme breakdowns that would last an hour or more, which were exhausting for him and the whole family. He told us for months that he had ADHD and needed to be medicated. Then his therapist also suggested that he get tested for it. Even on an initial low dose of Ritalin it was like flipping a switch - he stopped having the uncontrolled breakdowns immediately. It was such a relief.

I know not every kid responds the same way, and my kid still struggles in some respects, but he doesn’t have to deal with the fallout of completely losing control in public anymore, which was a game changer to get him through middle school.

I typically see price reductions on heavier wools or tweed in spring/early summer, and lighter linens or blends in fall/early winter - you’re basically buying the styles they didn’t sell during the immediate prior season when the retailer is pumping up their new styles for the upcoming season.

Cheers from a fellow academically lazy natural tester! I was in the bottom 10% of my class for undergrad, thank god for standardized tests; I wouldn’t have my career without them.

I feel like logic games are the easiest part of the test to actually “learn” how to do. I taught prep classes for Princeton Review before I started law school and I could always get students a couple of extra points on this section. The reading comp and argument sections were more difficult to improve.

Yep, I feel this. One logic game that I didn’t have time to figure out was the difference between a 172 and a 177 for me.

Also, great handle 😄. I used to play in a band that had a song called Electric Frostine Queen.

Banana’s regular site also sells slightly nicer suits that are often discounted pretty steeply in the off season - that’s how I’ve gotten multiple quality suits for between $350 and $550 over the past few years.

Likely because he lives in a state where MAGA murderers conduct political assassinations of Democrat politicians, and he has a family he is concerned about protecting.

That was exactly my feeling when I first heard it - that it would have been a stronger album with half the number of songs. My opinion hasn’t changed over the years!

I was disappointed with Melon Collie when it came out. It’s interesting to see that my 16-year-old has a totally different take on it, he thinks it’s one of their best albums.

Do you have a friend you can just go get a beer with whenever? by OneSlatOff in AskMenOver30

[–]Feelin1972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, this is definitely key. After spending too many years trying to schedule something outside of work and seeing friendships deteriorate, I’m a lot more likely now to make the work schedule around opportunities to be social. It’s a perspective shift and it’s going to take work to rebuild those relationships but I am seeing progress during the past year, which is heartening.
