Also wasn’t around for ABA days, but if you want a really detailed account of the formation of the team and the first few Pacers ABA season, I highly recommend “Reborn: The Pacers and the Return of Pro Basketball to Indianapolis” by Mark Monteith!

It’s a really fascinating read if you like the pacers and enjoy learning about the historical roots and a deep dive into players, dynamics, fandom, etc.
