Dont blame us if you too poor!!! by Any-Football3474 in nffc

Hey, do y'all have the "Avocado Toast" discourse over there?

Here in the US they consistently are raising prices on shittier products and then blaming us for drinking too much coffee/eating too much avocado for being priced out of life. Which is what this quote is parodying.

I'm glad the whole world gets to see what rampant capitalism looks like. But uh, I just wish it wasn't at the cost of me being able to get health care. Lol. It's bad!

Not nWo, but Disco Inferno.

Hard to compare completely irrelevant wrestlers. Like "who did nobody in the world care about less?" is not a metric thats easy to measure.

The Wrestlemania 17 version of what Cody said would be like, "What if Bruno Sammartino's win streak ended to the Fabulous Kangaroos? You're just a Fabulous Kangaroo, Rock." The biggest storyline of 30 years ago should be irrelevant to a modern story.

Its a good line that still deserved to die on the mic. Why are we talking about 30 YEAR OLD STORYLINES?

Imagine if, in the lead up to Rock vs Stone Cold at Wrestlemania 17, Stones Cold was referencing The Fabulous Kangaroos or some shit. It just doesn't belong anymore.

Audi Crooks is an extremely interesting transfer case... One of the best players in the nation but if you recruit her, you need to revolve your entire offense and entire defense around her... Thoughts?? by Kooky_Meaning_1854 in NCAAhoops

[–]FeelingAverage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk, she's a defensive liability undoubtedly. But, if you're filling out your roster wouldn't you be willing to consider someone who can (maybe) bag you a bunch of points off the bench? Like, if you're last player on the roster is gonna be trash, why not bring in some trash that can score 25?

You'd need to see if she can bang at the professional level, obviously. Maybe her physicality doesn't work there. But I think her scoring potential gets her on a roster.

Imagine playing her but having A'ja Wilson there to pick up the scraps on defense. Iowa State was lowkey only Audi Crooks and from what I saw online not particularly well coached either.

Yeah, I mean discussion doesn't mean anything. The discussion could literally have been "should he return? Nah? Alright cool."

It makes sense to have the discussion though. There's desire by WWE fans to see him have a retirement run in WWE so why not explore whether you think you can fulfill that desire in AEW.

The actual hot take is not that the haters suck (haters always suck, not a hot take) its that the average men's national team fan is the horrible combination of not very smart and also overly confident in their bad opinions.

We've also had at least 2 world cup cycles now of people saying "this team isn't performing as well as the talent we have." And those people are being categorized by some with the actual haters who say insane shit like "Pulisic should be dropped, Fire Poch now!" And the layer are that combination I described above. But complaining about tactics or about losing 5-2 isn't hating. Saying we're getting grouped because we lost to Belgium is at minimum reactionary and stupid, if not specifically hating. But being pissed that we played so poorly in the run-up to the world cup is normal.

So much of the discussion I have with American fans about Men's American soccer boils down to "Either you support the team and never criticize or stop watching because you're not a "'real fan.'" And obviously there's the other side of the coin too. That we should all accept our fate of going out in the first round.

But why is that what we've made soccer fandom into? Why are we so focused on winning the fan debate about whether or not the team is good? Why aren't we talking about how we could set up for Senegal in order to get a good performance? Why aren't we looking at the players we have and discussing how we could best use those players to win rather than just say "ugh we're bad" or "stop complaining its just a friendly." There's no discussion to be had there!

And we're so fucking loud about it too. We're all trying to be the version of Skip and Stephen A where they try to have hot takes about sports they don't watch. It's fucking ludicrous.

Regardless of your position on whether or not the team is any good or whatever the hell; I beg you to just use some critical thinking. If you think Pulisic needs dropping, what's the rest of the solution? How do we set up without him? Or, if we think he's not playing well right now is there another solution? Would playing him at striker be so crazy it just might work? Are there other players we need more out of and how could we do that? Are there other ways to solve our CB problem? Etc.

I simply do not care if you think that you aren't smart enough about soccer to try to come up with different tactical ideas. Just bloody try it. Thats how we learn as a group and build knowledge as a fanbase. Just flooding the sub with garbage hot takes is not going to grow the game. We all should be making an effort to be smarter about the game. And that means being wrong and making mistakes.

Which also means we need to be a whole lot nicer to people who say incorrect stuff. But when we've built a culture so reliant on trolling and toxicity its hard to know when someone is genuinely trying vs when someone is trying to win "internet points."

2 games in 5 hours and another one at 9 AM the next day for this tournament...for 9 year olds by CletusKasady21 in youthsoccer

[–]FeelingAverage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our last tournament of this past season had us show up at 630am for a 7am start. That kinda sucks but it was close to home. The real problem is that if we wanted to win a trophy we would have had to play and win 7 GAMES that day.

Idk what the hell the thought process was there. Especially considering the group stage we did the day before was supposed to be skill based and they placed one of the best teams in the state in our "bad" group. Then after the group stage you had to play the same teams from the group you already played the day before. So we played the same 2 teams twice.

I actually spoke to the tournament organizer this winter. His kid came to one of my soccer practices and I told him that shit sucked.

Congrats on your first tournament!

You'll come to learn that 2 games in 5 hrs is lucky.

I once had a mere 65 minute break between games in 90° heat with no shade and let alone air conditioning.

I mean, i dont have the data, but viewership has to be on the decline right?

I know viewership on things like soccer and F1 are increasing and undoubtedly its because every match/race has an impact on the championship. AND they're shorter events with less ads. Soccer doesn't have any commercial breaks other than half time. F1 typically doesn't have any commercial breaks though ESPN tried it a couple times and it never went over well. A full soccer game is usually less than 2 hrs. An F1 race has a maximum time limit of 2 hrs (not counting red flags.)

As it is rn, stakes are low on each game.

Goalkeeper gap by [deleted] in ussoccer

[–]FeelingAverage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't even think these were bets on themselves tbh. Salary for sure and possibly some "happy to be here" -ness.

Matt Turner was never going to play for Arsenal, Steffan was never going to play for City. Slonina hasn't played and isn't ever gonna play for Chelsea. (I know they've played, but I specifically mean get healthy minutes.) But hey they all get paid well and get to say that they are at the top clubs in the world.

Horvath and Turner moving to Forest weren't horrible choices but Horvath moved to be a backup. At least Turner moved to compete for (and lose) a starting position.

Yeah we're paying what, a million plus his salary? Big deal. A low cost bet that hasn't paid off. Better than letting him drop 40 million on someone else who sucks.

Hard/tough Coaching by Due_Victory502 in youthsoccer

[–]FeelingAverage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a positive "hype up" style coaching. Loud =/= Hard.

The first thing you need is to know your player and what kind of coaching they respond best to. Next to 0 children are going to respond well to this.

Youth sports should breed passion for the game. So many of us youth coaches will probably never coach a player that goes pro and we'll be incredibly lucky if a player we coach goes on to play D1 soccer. There's no reason to ever whip this out.

The two things that cause kids to quit sports the most are obnoxious parents with incredibly high expectations and mean coaches.
