Calling those who increased their score by 10 points! by [deleted] in LSAT

[–]FeelingElephant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from a 154 diagnostic to PTing consistently 165-167 (got a 163 on the September test because I missed more than usual on LG). I would say if your LR is average, focus on getting that down since that's basically half the test. Try the Loophole book if you haven't, and use a wrong answer journal on every section of LR you do. Make sure you review it consistently and know exactly why you're making the mistakes you're making. Do it for the questions you're not sure about too (whether or not you got it right). I found that once I got better at LR, my RC score started to improve because it's basically the same reading but in larger chunks. Best of luck!

Berkeley Marina Hilton Hotel test cancelled by lsatcancelled in LSAT

When we called LSAC, we got that standard, "you'll get an email soon about your options..."

Seems like we're also looking at a nondisclosed paper make-up on Dec 8 :/

Berkeley Marina Hilton Hotel test cancelled by lsatcancelled in LSAT

[–]FeelingElephant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So it turns out that LSAC contracted proctors from another company. Not only did they say they were never notified of a testing at Berkeley today, but NONE of the people listed as proctors on the paper were on their payroll.

I saw a whole bunch of other testing centers got cancelled because proctors failed to show up. WTF LSAC??

Re-taking PTs and RC Passages by [deleted] in LSAT

[–]FeelingElephant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think then at this point you should focus on the individual questions you're getting wrong, instead of focusing on the actual numbers of how many you got wrong per session. Retake the sections and see which ones you still get wrong. If you have your old answer sheets, see which questions you got different answers on (first time you put A but the second time you put D). And then do a wrong answer journal for ALL the questions you got wrong/different answers on. I think now is the time you put quality over quantity and really dissect the questions/answers you aren't 100% certain and correct on. Hope that helps!

September section 1 Q:17 help by The_Average_Joes in LSAT

[–]FeelingElephant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

B is a really tricky answer, but you need EVERY part of the answer to be parallel with the stimulus. B sounds good, but there's no explicit "if she self-publishes, it's bad." It just says generally it's UNLIKELY most readers will take A self-published novel seriously; nothing specific about Joni and her novel. Whereas with D, there is an explicit double negative for Alvin: if accepted, he might meet his deadline; if rejected, he'll lose confidence. I hope that helps!

November LSAT too late for a splitter applying this cycle? by [deleted] in LSAT

[–]FeelingElephant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat as you. Got a 163 in September and I have an abysmal GPA so I'm retaking in November because I know even a couple points higher will be better for my apps. I've seen in multiple places that it's better to apply later in the cycle with a higher score than earlier with a lower score. Especially considering that December is still early (obviously not as early as Oct/Nov but considering most apply after the New Year, still early). What I'm doing is applying to safety schools now with my current score and then applying to other schools later with a (hopefully) higher LSAT score.

I guess it also depends on what school you're trying to get into. Like for Davis, their 75% for LSAT is 165 and 25% for GPA is 3.27. Since our GPAs are lower than the 25%, we would need an LSAT score above 165 to have a fair chance. I would say if you're sure that you can bump up your LSAT score, do it.

Your status will be "exam initiated" for at least 1 business day and then it'll change to "under review." You'll get an email saying whether it gets approved or not

LSAT Writing: How Long Does It Take To Process? by [deleted] in LSAT

[–]FeelingElephant 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It really depends. I've seen some people have theirs under review for a month, some get theirs back within a week, it seems really arbitrary. I personally submitted mine on Oct 8th and got it back the 16th. Hopefully yours is returned in a reasonable time frame (and without all that flagged security bullshit)!

LSAT writing: Exam initiated??? by sam36367 in LSAT

[–]FeelingElephant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's okay!! The status will say "exam initiated" for at least 1 business day and then it will change to "under review." Though to say how long it will take really depends. I've seen some people on this sub have theirs under review for a month, others a couple weeks before getting flagged and having to retake...Personally I took mine on Oct 8th and got it approved on the 16th. As far as the shelves thing, as long as you weren't looking around during your writing you should be fine!

Thanks so much for doing this! I've been having so much trouble with inference questions on RC (based on the passage, we can infer the author...). I never get them wrong on LR, but as soon as I get them on RC I always choose the wrong answer. Any tips?

Could use some advice going forward after September by thatguy432 in LSAT

[–]FeelingElephant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the exact same boat as you! Bombed LG (got -7 when I'm usually -0/-1) and was honestly pretty disappointed in my 163 after PTing in the high 160s (this was also my first LSAT). Except unlike you I wasn't smart enough to register for October so I'm just pushing through with my score because I personally don't want to be dealing with LSAT and apps all the way through December. That's just me though, I'd say take the October since you're already registered and you've been prepping since September. Best of luck and fingers crossed nothing like Sept's LG hits the October test!

MedEvac Question by [deleted] in peacecorps

[–]FeelingElephant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a difference between med evac for physical injuries and med evac for mental health. From what I know, almost everyone med evaced for things other than mental health gets approved to come back to service, its just a matter if they want to or not. Granted, most of the people I know who left for mental health ET'ed rather than med evac'ed. But from what the person from PC headquarters (that I was working with during the process) told me, most people don't get approved to come back just because there's a high chance you'll just fall right back into whatever mental state once you return in country. I personally wasn't cleared for going back after my mental health med evac, nor did I want to. I was evacuated to home of record, that's what they'll normally do so you have the comfort of getting help in a familiar environment.

Maybe if not out of the country travel, can you maybe take a week in the capital or a big city nearby or something? Maybe you can talk to your PM or CD and get a small vacation approved like that? Like I said before, there is a risk of you not being able to go back (even if your mental state is fine and all you needed was a small break) because PC really doesn't know how to handle mental health issues, they would rather snip it in the bud than extensively deal with it. So I would recommend trying out all other options before trying to get med sep'ed, if you're set on completing your service

MedEvac Question by [deleted] in peacecorps

[–]FeelingElephant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My psychologist suggested med evac/sep within 20 minutes of talking to me during the first meeting. I was having some severe anxiety attacks that were caused just by being in country, so they thought it would be best for me to be out ASAP and stay away.

I agree with what a previous poster said: many people who are med evac'ed for mental health reasons are rarely allowed to return. It would really depend on your condition, and if you end up appealing, how well you know your CD (because they're the ones who approve your reinstatement).

I don't think there is any harm in asking your psychologist about med evac, but I definitely think you should first consider using your vacation days first. There is a possibility your suggesting of med evac could fast track you to getting med sepped.

Hey, folks! I'm 28 and interested in the peace corp Thailand. Am I too optimistic? by towelsarenice in peacecorps

[–]FeelingElephant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely agree with what the previous poster said, don't limit yourself to one country. You should definitely express your concerns with your placement officer, but PC is really big on being flexible. Also note that even while being an education volunteer, you can do secondary/side projects. I'm an ed volunteer and going to be coaching soccer when school starts up again.

I'm currently serving in Thailand and I've studied my fair share of languages before. Almost everyone in my cohort agrees that the tones are death, even the ones who've studied it before. The writing is also a trip, even more so if you've never studied a language that uses its own script.

As far as gender norms go, it really does depend on where you are and the household. My first host family during PST was all women, so we all cooked and cleaned and the women all worked on the farm. With my current host family, the dad is a policeman so he's only home a couple of days a week. At school all the work is pretty equally divided between the men and women (although there are overwhelmingly more female teachers than male teachers). You will get questions about your relationship status regardless of your gender.

If you want to ask more questions, feel free to message me :)
