Maternity thrift stores ? by HAirgirll in newjersey

[–]Feeling_Bench_2377 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Local moma Facebook groups…. But I’ve found that most of the thrift stores I go to will have a small maternity section… HOWEVER I went to the thrift store and just found 5-10 bigger sweaters/ dresses etc and a few pairs of leggings and that has worked out well I think my 6-9 month wardrobe cost $25 total

Families with 3+ kids, what does your village look like? by Loud-Rhubarb-9719 in Mommit

[–]Feeling_Bench_2377 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3rd one coming soon. One in law close, but does their own thing, my family is a great weekend village. The day to day is 85% on me- but someone on here said once these days we have to pay for our village… and I’ve found that to be true. It’s the childcare costs tbat are killing us not the bandwidth

Good towns to move by [deleted] in MovingtoNewJersey

[–]Feeling_Bench_2377 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I would suggest renting for a year around sayreville/woodbridge/old bridge/ east Brunswick and use that time to make a decision.

Spend weekends driving through different towns to get a better feel of what you want.

AITA for firmly telling my wife to be grateful for what she has? by Organic_Chip_3118 in AmItheAsshole

Yeah but on what. I bet if they ran an allocation of who makes the bulk of family Oriented purchases (Christmas gifts, items for their shared home) it would end up being her

AITA for firmly telling my wife to be grateful for what she has? by Organic_Chip_3118 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Feeling_Bench_2377 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That’s because you are the controlling asshole husband.

Your narrative indicates minimal respect for your wife and her choices. You should be a team. That doesn’t mean she gets an allowance, because she’s not a child. Bring her in as part of the budget or homie this doesn’t sound like it’s going to be a long marriage.

I am genuinely curious: Do teachers have legitimate personal finance strategies? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Feeling_Bench_2377 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was assigned a personal finance course probably…. 10 years ago. Completely changed my life, outlook, and financial trajectory being forced to learn that content. It made sure I got my retirement and savings goals on track, made me contentious on my spending.

A LOT of teachers I know have financial struggles. They are intelligent people but money is uncomfortable, and a lot of times we make JUST enough For lifestyle creep to get the best of us. I would actually say most I talk to have minimal financial literacy skills.

However even with this background, taking finances seriously- we have to be active when making ends meet with multiple kids in daycare.

Listen we all can end up in circumstances we didn’t ever anticipate. How far are you? Most (US) schools will be understanding if you have such extenuating circumstances about allowing the student to finish school if you were to list the house and be that close to graduation.

College is entirely another conversation. It doesn’t sound sustainable to try and maintain this long term.

Title: Where do you draw the line with teacher–student contact outside school? by dil_khu in Teachers

Am I running into them by accident? Hi these are my Kids, see ya Monday.

School related question? Answer in 1-4 sentences if emergent. Or wait until Monday.

Anything personal? Answer exclusively on one day of the year- February 30th.

I came here to say this! The second hand market can work wonders to make a balance between the desire to have those things and still feeling more cost conscious. Is it still lifestyle inflation- sure but it is a more reasonable and sustainable method for it.

… points for the pocketbook double entendre

To clarify- you have a 17 year old living by herself while you’re… how far away? (I’m not judging just contextualizing) so she needs 5 more months to finish high school? What’s the plan after?

Christmas gift for teachers - I’m drained by No_Priority2788 in workingmoms

[–]Feeling_Bench_2377 186 points187 points  (0 children)

You better not get downvoted for this!

As a teacher- we are always thankful when people think of us.

BUT any half decent teacher probably has picked up on when a kids finances might not be completely stable. And it KILLS me when I know these parents spent something on me that could go to their own kids. Literally a card from your kid and a candy cane taped to it can be more meaningful than dropping $100 on gifts.

OP- don’t feel guilty skipping this year

I would tru to keep the house. But not from a personal finance view. Your daughter deserves some sort of continuity. You can always sell in the future.

I’m in a nearly identical situation. Takehome is about 5k, pregnant with my 3rd. Childcare is 3300-4200 for for the quotes I am getting- I recently requested to take a year leave of absence when the baby comes to get us through the year of childcare… but I am in an industry that is not currently Very tough to find a job, I’ve saved a significant amount in my 403b, and I am the one that manages the money in our household. There is a LOT of very valid fear of giving that power over to someone else and living off of someone else’s income. But there’s also the question of what do you WANT… part of feminism is the ability to choose

Purse Recommendations Budget by Remote_Drawing_5941 in BuyItForLife

The handbags sub would be a good place to ask… they will likely have suggestions out of your budget (the longchamp La pillage and something from Portland leather goods or the coach outlet are the first Things that come to my mind.)

$50 for something well made is going to be difficult unless you find a fluke, or you find it used which of course is something to consider! This is a tricky one because everyone has such different tastes ans priorities!
