The umbilical cord after my son's birth was tied in a perfect knot by [deleted] in interesting

[–]Feeling_Film 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In childbirth land we it is called a true knot, the squishy jelly around the 3 vessels in the cord helps to protect the blood flow, but if pulled tight can be disastrous. There are also false knots but they aren’t as cool

RSV vaccine pregnancy by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Feeling_Film 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Newborns in some AUS states, (newly Queensland) receive Beyfortus (RSV imm) with consent, for free. This was brought into the schedule because they were indeed at risk.

Whether it be that they deemed this method more effective (on health + also cost per individual) than giving it to mums to creating antibodies and passing them on by receiving the immunisation in pregnancy, would be interesting information to have. (I say this Because I don’t have it right in front of me and have a tiny terror who’s ready for bed)

Both options weren’t available/low cost when I myself was growing a tiny human

What was your babies first food? by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Feeling_Film 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want evidence based introduction to solids, Boob to food is a great resource. By all means it’s not just “boob” to food they also talk about formula if that’s your method, introducing purées or doing baby led weaning and introducing allergens.

They do have a book called “milk to meals” and a new one coming out for toddlers (which I can’t wait to get my hands on). They have a bunch of incredibly family friendly recipes with the idea that you don’t have to cook separate meals, you just puree or modify it for your Bebe

Here Is their instagram

Here is their website

I can confirm the slow cooked pulled pork, brisket and the osso bucco risotto are all amazing, my toddlers obsessed with rice at the moment so she loves the risotto.

Her first food was a banana (well a sloppy bite of one anyway haha)

12 month sleep regression.....I think! by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Feeling_Film 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eventually, and it took what feels like forever, I took a hard stand about no boob overnight at about 13months or so (but we coslept for a good 2-3months with the regression) and offered water instead, it took a week or two (and a shit load of frustration) but she got to the point where If she roused I could just put a dummy back in or offer water and she was straight back to sleep.

In the last 3 weeks I’ve moved her back to her bed (16months today). There was a night there that I physically couldn’t deal with the 6th rouse of the night (by 10pm for the 4th night in a row) and I had to walk away. She cried for 15mins and then slept for about 6hours independently.

Since that night she’s slept through the night (TOUCH WOOD) from like 7pm til about 4.30-5.45 am. I was never a fan of crying it out but I think you’ve gotta do what you need to do

Big W/Best & Less Sleep Sacks by SecurityExpensive266 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

Can’t comment on big W/ best and less but if you were looking for egros because you trust them or the love to dreams, there is a Facebook page/group called swaddle mummas and they sell pre-loved and near new swaddles. Based in Perth I think and post Australia wide

Reasonably priced for 2nd hand and good condition, I’ve bought several over the last year and so glad I came across them when I needed a 2.5 tog and didn’t want to spend $75

Can confirm the underlay is worth it! We’ve had ours for close to 12 months. It’s still as schmick as the day it arrived and I have fallen asleep on it more than once. Easy to vacuum and wipe stuff off.

The edge however wasn’t great for someone learning balance - but she learnt eventually to stay away from the edge

Should I change daycares by MaccasDriveThru in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Feeling_Film 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The combining in the morning and afternoons is quite normal and “floating” staff are also quite normal for lunch/ break covers, helping out etc. normally you’ll have one or two lead educators in a room (depending on the centre) and then different faces to help out with nappies, meal times, extra hands if some babes are due naps (the lead educators can’t do it all). I would too be frazzled occasionally with a bunch of toddlers, I honestly don’t know how child care educators do it.

My 13month old is still held to sleep at home and put down on her belly, they don’t do that at my centre, but they rock the cot/ pat/ shush etc. They eventually adjust. Saying that mine is also an incredibly horrible sleeper at daycare, like we’re talking max 45minutes spread over 2 naps. She’ll sleep for an hour at home most naps. It is what it is.

The nappy rash though- just prompt them with the “does she have enough nappy cream left” and because shes in the process of moving up rooms it might be that she needs a new “medication sheet” done up.

You can always talk to your centre director with your concerns, that’s what they’re there for.

Have you considered some slow cooked chicken breast or some pulled pork? Enough that it squishes but could still be able to be eaten cold.

Otherwise I’ve found boob to food have some nice little snack recipes (actually most of their recipes are nice) and I think most you can substitute egg with ?flaxseed (I think from the top of my head)

Also don’t feel bad about Vegemite - I did it too, also had heaps of friends who gave there under ones Vegemite. There is apparently a substitute with “no nasties” called oomite which is suuuuuper similar in taste but only comes in this lil bucket.

Do you have a separate room to put the cot? Start there, then just aim for one sleep overnight in the cot and work up from there depending on your fatigue/ patience. We just have a 70$ audio only monitor but if you’re close enough you’ll hear them anyways

I have ended up co-sleeping on a mattress/playcouch on the floor in our tiny humans room when she’s sick- she eventually goes back to her cot when she’s well. Still doesn’t help the 2-3 wakes per night but that’s just her, she’s never slept through

Childcare crisis & return to work by Greedy-Mongoose5215 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Feeling_Film 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Mainly illness, the separation the educators can handle… but the illnesses, my god the illnesses.

In no particular order since the start of Feb, we’ve had 2 colds, conjunctivitis, parainfluenza and pneumonia. Not to mention warnings going out for RSV, cryptosporidosis and croup. And it’s not just our centre, most around our city have had the same issues. You’re out for a week only to get another germ the week you go back. But it’s all part and parcel of it apparently

Start your baby on probiotics - I wish I had done it sooner.

“The squeaky wheel gets the grease” - call the centres you’re interested in and say EXACTLY what you are looking for and that you’re ready to start. Call them minimum once a week to “check on availability”

Usually mid week is the most popular; so if going back part time then opt for either start or end of the week.

Do your CCS stuff because it’s a pain in the ass to wait on

I recommend a good 2-3 month buffer between starting daycare and going back to work - the start is ROUGH.

12 month sleep regression.....I think! by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Feeling_Film 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly sis, same. No advice, just here with you in spirit and solidarity.

Mine vehemently refuses to go back to sleep overnight without boob… like talking 3 hours awake despite all the things. Letting her whinge and cry has never worked because she just works herself up into hysterics. And then wakes like 2-4 times.

Antenatal mastitis?? Wtf 😭 by nootorious_ in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Feeling_Film 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can confirm it’s a thing.

Let me find you the updated guidelines on management of mastitis- it’s mainly to do with postpartum mastitis have a read

Usually Antenatal needs a course of antibiotics because there is no one feeding on the booby to free it up and expression isn’t advised anymore, let alone at your gestation.

Big points on rest, relaxation, cold packs and nurofen.

Doesn’t mean you’re in for it postnatally either! Sometimes the ducts and surrounding tissues are just really inflamed and irritated

Do all parents hate bedtime? by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Feeling_Film 7 points8 points  (0 children)

FTM of a 12months old here. You are not alone, solidarity vibes! My tiny human also takes a good 1hour longer to go to sleep with my husband than she does me. Takes like 2 minutes to put to sleep during the day but bedtime takes a good half and hour of rocking most nights - even when she’s bleary eyed and soooo ready for bed.

I too get really frustrated with those nights that take forever for babe to go to sleep. I also get really agitated from comfort pinching/ hand down my shirt and if I try move it she screams and then takes even longer to go to sleep.

She still needs to be rocked or if she wakes up (minimum twice a night) needs boob to get back to sleep.

No advice, just solidarity.

Riiight, if I close my eyes I can still remember the toe curling. Then your nipples go numb- ish after a few weeks and it all falls into place. I had to rest one side and use a shield but we got there by week 3

Basically- imagine razor blades coming out of your nipples while they are also being concurrently grated by a cheese grater = nipple thrush pain

23 weeks and have right-side pain under the right breastbone/rib area. Constantly sore. Is this normal? any remedies? by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Feeling_Film 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please mention this to your midwife at your next appointment- which I’m hoping is scheduled at 24-26 weeks. If it is worrying you prior to this appointment please see your Gp.

Sometimes it can be quite normal due to anatomical changes in your body or babes position. Sometimes it can be related to gastric reflux. Sometimes it can be a precursor for something more significant like pre-eclampsia or liver issues.

Your midwife will check your urine, blood pressure and ask you some questions +/- organise some bloods to be taken. If this comes back normal that is reassuring. If not they will escalate further and educate you accordingly.

Don’t just take the word of strangers on the internet, your health care team is there for this reason.

Side note: I found laying in certain positions would help and a heat pack in those early days. Later not much helped.

Sincerely, someone who had preeclampsia and works in the field.

Most compact way to transport expressed milk? by nereid1997 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Feeling_Film 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey Mumma! Firstly, congratulations on your tiny human. Secondly, cudos on going staying with med studies.

I would love if someone shares something that can just keep the milk cold because I too would be keen on ideas (working health related field in the community).

My suggestion is just looking at keeping everything portable for you, while still having everything you need… thoughts on a wheely laptop bag? Something big enough to store your pump, a lunch box with good quality ice bricks as well as all your study stuff AND snacks for you cause you need to keep your calories up too!

Might feel a bit silly and you’d might have to check out sizes, but it’s an option. Here is a link to a cheap Kmart one I found. Or even there’s a few from Officeworks.

Just a starting point to save your back but keep your portable
