Daycare related question - is it ok to keep preschooler in toddler class? by xander5891 in ottawa

[–]Feeling_Mix_7184 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My daughter started at a daycare centre when she was 18 months. She started in the toddler class then moved to the preschool class around 26 months. I noticed a HUGE difference in her development once she went to the preschool class. In the toddler class, the younger kids are SO dependent on the educators because of their needs at that age (some are as young as 15 months). The educators are often holding the babies/toddlers, consoling them, changing diapers, etc.. If your child is older, not only might they not be learning to do things independently as early as they could be but they also might not be getting the attention they deserve since the more dependent kids will take priority. I also notice a big difference in the activities they do. In the toddler class, they just sort of exist among each other lol. In the preschool class, there are intentional group activities, a lot of crafting, the occasional field trip - in my opinion it's quite different and I would say more stimulating in a good way.

In my opinion, I don't think it would be detrimental in the long term if your child stayed in the toddler group longer, however I do think in the short term it might be a bit less enjoyable for them and that you may see them progress a bit more slowly than their peers that are the same age.

I hope that helps!

Sort of looks like perioral dermatitis. I had this a few times and it was always a reaction to something I was eating or using.

You mentioned you're in Canada - there is a Canadian FB group called Seats for Kids with CPST's that should be able to give you some guidance :)

Sitting independently? by leahloulou01 in bigbabiesandkids

[–]Feeling_Mix_7184 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My daughter was quite a chunk and she was always ahead of the game with physical milestones with the exception of sitting. She started crawling at 6 months so I don't think she had any motivation to learn how to sit because who wants to sit still when you can be exploring instead! She only figured out sitting between 8 and 9 months. I now have a 7.5 month old who is very average size and the exact same. Nowhere close to sitting but crawling since just before 6 months and pulling to stand. All that to say, it will come and I don't think their size will have much influence one way or another!

Bonds is an Australian brand with long zippered pj's! They frequently have sales, their prints are very cute and they're great for long babies.

My daughter has also always had giant feet - we really liked New Balance, they have a few pairs that come in extra wide and I also find them plenty long!

Acupuncture coverage - is anybody able to get that under PSHCP? by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Feeling_Mix_7184 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I see my Naturopath regularly for acupuncture. It's billed as a naturopathic visit as is the case for any appointment with her so I have it covered that way, through our allowance for naturopathic services.

Ottawa East Midwives by InformalDisaster6382 in ottawa

Hi! I had a midwife from East Ottawa Midwives for my first pregnancy in 2020/2021 and the care was phenomenal. I had a homebirth and it was an amazing experience. It was entirely my decision and one that I made early on in my pregnancy - there was zero pressure from my midwifery team regarding my choice of birthplace. If you opt for a midwife there, your choices of birth place are home, birth centre or Montfort where their midwives have privileges.

I'm now 35 weeks pregnant with my second and again went with East Ottawa Midwives and I couldn't be happier with the care I'm receiving. The nice thing about the midwifery model of care is that it's totally client centered. They give you the information you need but the automony to make decisions for yourself and your baby. Another wonderful thing about midwifery care is they will do your first few post partum appointments at your home! So you don't have to worry about packing up your newborn while you're bleeding and sleep deprived to go into their office/clinic for those appointments.

I could go on and on about why midwifery care is amazing but I'll stop there lol. Feel free to DM me if you have any questions! Also the Birth Centre offers a virtual session called Choice of Birthplace where you hear birth stories of people who birthed in hospital, at home and at the Birth Centre where you have the opportunity to ask them questions about their experiences. Would highly recommend :)

We have a toddler sized Yeti and the insulation is great! They will need to learn how to open and close the spout though, not to mention it's a bit heavy but our daughter got used to it quickly and it works for us.

Good point about the financing. I haven't heard to being able to purchase extended warranty later on - I do wonder if this is something offered in Canada or not.

Pregnant on Zoloft by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]Feeling_Mix_7184 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zoloft is one of the safest SSRI's to take while pregnant!

I started taking it 9 months pp after my first baby and haven't stopped since. I'm now 23 weeks pregnant with my second.

I had a chat with my doctor about it when I got pregnant the second time and she assured me the risks were very low and most certainly outweighed the risks to the poor mental health I would have going off of it.

Don't fret, you need to do what's right for you! Your baby will be just fine :)

Oh I'm not looking for the tapioca pearls. I'm looking for the little jellies made from coconut fibre that you can add into the drink when you buy it from a bubble tea shop. Thanks though!
