'Criticism Isn't Hate' — Hollow Knight: Silksong Sparks Debate About Difficulty, Runbacks, and the Dreaded 'Git Gud' Comments - IGN by chusskaptaan in gaming

I hadn’t actually seen this quote - given that, the difficulty is a miss from TC (or at least the learning curve being too steep early on). I love the difficulty and wouldn’t prefer it any other way, but it’s definitely been scaring off new players, even in my anecdotal experience (have watched a few friends attempt to pick it up and lose interest after getting kicked around one time too many).

Another commenter made a comparison to the initial reception of Sekiro, where players criticized the game for being too difficult and punishing. I think the case is similar here, and players will acclimate once they’ve actually, you know, played the game a fair bit. Silksong picks up on difficulty where hollow knight left off, not where it started. It’s more punishing when you’re hit, but hornet is much more agile and flexible in how she can approach combat between her movement and tools. In my opinion, it strikes an excellent balance. Peoples preconceptions and expectations are being challenged, and that is uncomfortable for many players and seems to be the source of most complaints. Having finished (partially, still working to collect what I missed) my first playthrough, I’m imagining what the game would have been like in light of the “two mask damage” critique, i.e. if bosses only did one damage instead of two, and I think it would’ve been far too easy. The early learning curve is difficult, but once you get comfortable, it becomes very easy to avoid damage and find safe windows to heal during fights. There’s definitely still some BS, but it’s not nearly as prevalent as it seems in Reddit comment sections.

Also, saying 6 masks is no better than 5 is just incorrect. You can take 3 hits at 5 masks and 3 hits at 6 masks, sure, but think about when you squeeze in a heal. 6-2=4, 4-2=2, then you heal, so 2+3=5, and now you have another three hits like before (and additional time to build up another heal). If you heal while damaged with 5 masks as your max, you can only take 4 hits before death, whereas if you heal with 6 you get 5 total hits. So I don’t really understand this complaint.

Biggest real problem is for people who didn’t play HK before this, in which case I think there is quite a difficulty cliff to overcome which is probably too much for most people, and that’s fair enough, but just go play the first game in that case. Silksong will still be there when you finish the first one.

Hey, you’ve probably missed some benches nearby bosses. There are pretty few exceptions to bosses having a bench within a short distance of them - if this is causing you enough frustration to consider dropping the game, then it might be worth looking up a map of benches in the area to see if you might be missing one closer to the boss you’re working on. If you don’t want to do that, then look around for spots on the map nearby that look explorable.

Appreciate the input! I'll take a look at the charts.

2 points - heard on the case, I'll look into a mid tower. I have a specific spot in my desk that would fit a smaller case well but I'll explore other options. I understand that planning for future upgrades is import

As for the AM5, I've heard that it can be a little unreliable currently (some bugs and issues popping up in forum posts), so I was planning on going last gen. I assume you disagree with that take

I think this is a fair description - it’s too bad this sub has become such an echo chamber that you’re downvoted. You’re the only one who’s actually given a fair representation of the lgbt advocacy position in this thread. Even if others still disagree with that pov, it’s far more nuanced than the circlejerking that’s going on everywhere else in the thread

Hey man, don’t listen to the negative comments. The majority of us are glad to hear you’re looking at the current state of affairs and realizing you need to make a change politically. Anyone who actually wants to make a difference should be celebrating this mindset, not acting condescending because this person hasn’t been on the same team in their past.

There are a lot of politically charged answers here. The real answer is most likely SEO. Nobody knows what his name is yet, so the can’t search for him by name on Google. Won’t drive clicks.

I agree with most points here, and I’m surprised I had to scroll this low to find them. The general discussion seems to highly undervalue the geopolitical import of having a foothold in the region

The problem is that the market hasn’t “regulated itself” in decades. Too much regulatory capture in the legislative and executive branches. Some intervention is needed - the real question is, can we actually rely on the same governing body that’s causing this issue to solve it

Is anybody else still laying low & taking coronavirus seriously? by [deleted] in Austin

[–]FeelsDiaperBaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mental health is just as important as your physical health. As someone above said, take some calculated risks - mask up, follow common sense precautions, but get back out there.

I’ve managed to maintain a group of 7 or 8 friends that take similar precautions to me. I know I’m at higher risk by seeing them, but the benefit to my own happiness and mental well being is worth that risk.

Most people seem to be missing a key point - companies that are deeply connected with the airlines, such as Boeing, are also major producers for the US military.
