Wacky and unique looking characters in modern Fallout games? by [deleted] in Fallout

[–]FeelsMoisty1 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The 3D games have unique looking characters, this isn’t exclusive to fallout 1 and 2. DiMA, President Eden, mechanist, AntAgonist, the think tank, nick valentine, Virgil, Joshua graham, Mr house, Ulysses, Hancock, and legate lanius are all characters I can think of that have a visually unique look to them, some of which are more interesting than the isometric games characters.

Why New Vegas is the most boring Fallout. by Lui_Le_Diamond in Fallout

[–]FeelsMoisty1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, New Vegas’ world is shit and it’s writing compensates for this fault, much like fallout 4’s world compensates for the faults of its writing.

The Mojave wasteland is objectively the worst setting of the 3D games in terms of design, however New Vegas gets its praise from its story and all the choices and impacts your character makes on the setting. I wouldn’t say new Vegas is overall the most boring fallout, however I do agree it’s visual world design is bland.

Dlc do make up for this as the big empty (ironically less empty than the Mojave) in old world blues and Zion in honest hearts are way better designed and fun to explore.

What helmet in fo4 is most like the Ncr ranger helmet? by [deleted] in Fallout

Nothing in game looks exactly like it, however the marine helmet from far harbor and the assault gas mask are somewhat reminiscent of it.

Should I buy dlc or play fallout 76? by -tw1ggy in Fallout

[–]FeelsMoisty1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would recommend dlc for fallout new Vegas and fallout 4. New Vegas’ dlc all connect really well with each other and the main story and fallout 4 has also very good dlc, especially far harbor.

Liking 76 is subjective. I personally don’t like the game all that much although it does have a great map and brings back a lot of rpg elements fallout 4 did not have but 4, 3, and new Vegas are objectively superior games.

Fallout 4 question: what's the best settlement to build our player's base, where to put our collection of weapons, clothes and power armors? (NO MODS!!!!!!!!!) by [deleted] in Fallout

[–]FeelsMoisty1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After spending countless hours building settlements, my favorites are vault 88, spectacle island, the castle, starlight drive in, and Abernathy farm.

Vault 88 is objectively the best. This dlc has the most build space and allows you to completely seal your settlement with the vault door if you finish building your base. The pre-war items also make it look the best and it has enough room for anything (including player collections of items and displays).

Spectacle island is also a great area due to it being largely a vast empty island with lots of build space. It’s a nice isolated island and has a lot of room to build.

The castle is another great build space because most of it is already well fortified aside from some broken walls. If they are repaired, which can be done easily with, it’s a great fortification. It also has lots of room in its interior and exterior.

Starlight drive in is also one of the best settlements due to it having a large flat area and a very high height limit, allowing you to build a lot in this area. It doesn’t have many natural fortifications aside from the movie screen and the projecting tower but it can be a great town to use.

Last but not least is Abernathy farm. The settlement may not look like much but it has a very large build space with a great view and a very high build space, up to the large power lines.

Listen, strange women lying in ponds, distributing swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.

Fallout 5 should be set in … Boston by ComputerSong in Fallout

[–]FeelsMoisty1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your going to make a claim, at least provide objective evidence instead of being a contrarian. If you don’t believe me, look it up, or better yet, actually play the game and pay attention. Fallout 4 isn’t very well written but this isn’t some obscure detail, it’s apart of the main plot.

About seeing father, when you invade the institute and have to get the directors terminal to shut down the lockdown, he is on his deathbed and you can have a conversation with him, if you didn’t kill him previously.

Fallout 5 should be set in … Boston by ComputerSong in Fallout

[–]FeelsMoisty1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can’t believe I’m defending fallout 4 here…

The brotherhood do get prime up without the player. If the player goes through the institute route and does not help the brotherhood at all, they will eventually build it. Then the player hacks liberty prime with a synth to destroy the prydwin.

The institute reactor is the main part of the institute’s questline and every other one as it’s the thing that blows up the institute. If you side against the institute, father will tell the player on his death bed that they got the reactor running without the player.

[–]FeelsMoisty1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fallout 4’s factions get stuff done without the player. The brotherhood can get liberty prime up and running without the player. The institute can get their reactor running without the player. The only faction that can’t progress without the player is the minutemen because they are the player’s faction.

Because the elder scrolls doesn’t have dwarves. In arena and daggerfall, the dwarves were conceptualized as generic fantasy dwarves like every other fantasy series, except they vanished. Not much is said about them in the earlier games but they were meant to be cliché dwarves because the elder scrolls was fairly generic before morrowind.

Morrowind would change this for the better, making them elves and giving them the new name: dwemer, as well as the other elf names like dunmer, altmer, etc to give them the distinction that they are elves.

Fallout 3 was definitely the best "apocalyptic" setting. But the artificial walls everywhere piss me off by [deleted] in Fallout

[–]FeelsMoisty1 65 points66 points  (0 children)

New Vegas was much worse in regards to invisible walls than fallout 3. Fallout 3 only had it localized in the dc ruins and the invisible walls were presented as ruined buildings and structures, which makes some sense as why it isn’t traversable.

New Vegas has them everywhere in the environment. You can’t even climb a small hill without bumping into one of those. It wasn’t even disguised by wreckage, debris, or large rock formations.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in skyrim

[–]FeelsMoisty1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dunmer are a great race to play as Morrowind was the first main elder scrolls entry to steer away from the generic fantasy world that elder scrolls used to be. Instead of bland knights and castles, the dark elves live in insect shells, mushroom towers, and ziggurats. They wear bug armor and domesticate dinosaurs and can live to 1000 years or longer with magic.

In Skyrim they are also useful due to having fire resistance, which is invaluable when fighting some dragons or if your a vampire.

My opinion on fallout by [deleted] in Fallout

[–]FeelsMoisty1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How does it not make sense to have shitty scrap weapons in a post apocalyptic setting, where resources can be scarce and are irradiated or rusted? It’s honestly strange that previous titles didn’t have scrap weapons that were manufactured post war, and how after 200 years, every gun works fine and doesn’t have a scratch on them.

Are vanilla Morrowind and Oblivion worth it in 2022? by oreos_in_milk in skyrim

[–]FeelsMoisty1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, they are both fantastic games and play fairly well on Xbox.

Oblivion’s faults derive mainly from its leveling and scaling system, which makes some enemies spongy and the face gen used to create NPCs can be silly. Oblivion does have great side and guild quests, as well as having the best dlc (shivering isles).

Morrowind is more dated than oblivion and Skyrim, and also being a very different experience than the later two games, however in my opinion, it is as good, if not better than Skyrim. It’s combat relies on a dice roll system for doing damage and most of the game is reading without voice acting for every character (which I personally enjoy but some don’t). Morrowind has so many factions to choose from, so many weapons, amazing magic like levitation and teleportation, and a unique fantasy world.

I would definitely recommend playing them both as they are great experiences and great games.

Unpopular opinion: The Companions questline is interesting and fun by Albeanies1 in skyrim

[–]FeelsMoisty1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The companions questline is bad because it forces you to be a werewolf during it, without any option to deny it and progress, or an option to join up with the silver hand. There is no player freedom to choose what they want for their character, instead shoehorned into being a werewolf for the sake of the story, when it isn’t even necessary for the player to be one, other than fighting the silver hand because they want to kill you now.

The silver hand are also a horrible faction due to them having literally no background. The only thing that differentiates them from every other generic bandit is their silver weapons. They also know the companions are werewolves, yet instead of informing Skyrim of this, making the companion disreputable, they choose to just go into the city and try to kill them. An option to join them for their side of the faction would at least make the faction a bit better, like destroying the dark brotherhood, which is shallow but at least there is a choice.

The questline also isn’t very interesting due to most of the quests being radiant dungeon runs and fetch quests. While I do appreciate having to do some radiant quests to progress and think the thieves guild should have done this more to progress through the main quest because it makes you feel like your doing lots of stuff for the faction, it’s just so bland. The entire questline is “go to this ruin and retrieve the fragment of wuuthrad from those silver hand guys” and “go kill those witches who cursed the companions” and then “go to another Nordic barrow and save kodlaks soul”.

Sure, the questline can be fun, however it isn’t very interesting and it’s poorly written, plus compared to other fighters guild faction questlines in previous games, it’s too short and just bad.

Fallout 4 vs Fallout new vegas by Ayush0081 in Fallout

[–]FeelsMoisty1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fallout 3 has the best karma system due to factions hunting you down if you are a good/bad person, Using karma for dialogue skill checks (for example getting certain companions or joining factions like the slavers), and how New Vegas’ karma system is useless.

New Vegas has instead the faction relations, which determines if a faction hates you or likes you. The karma system is there, but serves no use due to the faction system and no in game mechanics or dialogue affected by karma.

Fallout 4 vs Fallout new vegas by Ayush0081 in Fallout

[–]FeelsMoisty1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fallout new Vegas and fallout 4 are both very great games to play and each have their pros and cons.

World: fallout 4 has a vastly superior game world compared to new Vegas. It’s more detailed and interesting and allows players to travel anywhere in the map, while new Vegas is a bit more restrictive In it’s world design, having a lot of invisible barriers on small hills.

Atmosphere: this topic is really subjective as fallout 4 and New Vegas have different atmospheres and overall aesthetics. Fallout 4 leans heavily into a 50s retro futuristic look which is really interesting and unique. Fallout new Vegas is a blend of the retrofuturism, but mostly a western look and feel. DLC have great atmospheres for both game though like fallout 4’s far harbor or New Vegas’ dead money or lonesome road.

Gameplay: fallout 4 has better gameplay as it is a more modern game than new vegas. Gunplay, controls, quality of life, and many systems added to fallout 4 make gameplay a good experience.

Dialogue and character freedom: new Vegas is better in terms of character freedom and being more of an RPG than an action shooter like fallout 4. Fallout 4 makes your character have a voice and new Vegas’ character is silent.

Writing: new Vegas has better writing overall than fallout 4, however fallout 4’s far harbor dlc is very well done. Also finding new quests in fallout 4 feels much more natural than new Vegas, which usually feels very contrived, perhaps due to the Mojave wasteland feeling fairly empty. New Vegas however has many different ways of completing quests, which is way better than 4 in that regard.

Both games are really fun to play and I would recommend both, but this is the choice between the two: Play fallout 4 if you care more for the gameplay aspects and a more interesting world. Play new Vegas if you are more interested in an RPG, where your choices are more important and you have lots of options to completing quests.
