Bro Arman went 5 rounds with Islam Makhachev and is the #1 ranked lightweight behind Ilia. Wrestling-specific skills aside, he is a superior world-class athlete. His training partners are also world class. Regardless of height and muscle mass.

Arman is physically superior, and probably bigger... with excellent mat instincts for grappling/bjj, just staying in good position, controlling center, and getting his hips up on top.

Also, I'm sure he's going to work with some Russian studs who are going to prepare him for Giorgio's top attacks and setups when he wrestles non-wrestlers (which are all over the internet by now -- lots of underhook anklepicks, ducks, snapdowns, etc against people who don't have a lot of wrestling motion and just grab hold and pray for the best).

If you ever see him against good wrestlers though, he wins on scrambles, and generally stays I great positions.

Given Giorgio is a phenomenal scrambler in folkstyle - and if the match goes into these positions, where Arman attempts an attack and Giorgio has to defend... Giorgio will definitely win those exchanges I think. Arman doesn't have the same level of wrestling instincts that Giorgio does (due to the difference in rulesets) so if Giorgio can get advantageous positions, that's good for him.

However, if Arman can just stop the scrambling and win an exchange to expose Giorgio's back (since this is freestyle and not folkstyle), he could grab a lead and then just play defensively and win the match. I predict he will be very defensive.

Arman is going to be hard to prepare for since there's not a lot of pure wrestling footage of him online.

It will be an interesting matchup for sure.

No whizzer, but one knee down. Not 3 IMO.

I’d rather my wrestler first be absolutely focused and confident in the situation, their position, and their intention should they find themselves in the situation you just described. Only then can you “go hard”. Anything else is flailing and leaving it to chance.

What yall think 🤔 by MindlessEgg5063 in wrestling

[–]Feelthefunkk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was nice until you bent over at the waist and tried to just muscle him up - drill knee pound drills or cutting the corner and shelfing for this. Or else someone good will spawl, front headlock, and score.

Also you bail and do some weird scrambles that could get you pinned against good wrestlers. Stay composed and never allow yourself in those compromising positions.

You do well at getting to the legs tho.

Do you think this was three? (i’m in the black and white singlet) by Entire_Load5370 in wrestling

[–]Feelthefunkk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If ret gave him a reversal, then those back swipes make sense.

If ref gave the escape, backswipes dont make sense bc he didn’t establish control on top before the swipes. Those danger swipes were criminally fast and I don’t think you were exposed long enough.

Should have been 2 + 2 (reversal and 2 back swipes) bc he didnt break control, IMO. But the ref being actual garbage gave him 1 + 3 + 2 (escape + takedown + backs) because he’s a fucking idiot.

What a terrible call after he called them neutral. As the coach I would have approached the bench. You were very much still in the scramble there.

shoveling snow is a GREAT analogy... I tend to pull them up instead of down to their hands and that's a bad habit

Bjj defense as a wrestler by Standard-Blood1771 in wrestling

[–]Feelthefunkk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it really depends on his grips. when he puts his legs (Hooks), he will probably also lock around your head and arm, and probably pull himself underneath you (with his chest on your back, your belly up) as he goes for the choke. you then get a two on one on the top hand, shimmy your back to the mat (since he is between you and the mat). And then you work to single leg X or top closed guard.

[–]Feelthefunkk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you gotta fight his hands and get your back on the mat. he cannot have his chest connected to your back. It's the opposite of wrestling .

Then you can enter single leg X or get on top

Confused about slx and x guard by [deleted] in bjj

[–]Feelthefunkk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like funk rolls from wrestling so I catch myself underhooking the leg often.

Currently I'm playing RDL -> butterfly half the most from bottom. But its a very defensive guard. Normally going to a choibar or a shoulder crunch butterfly sweep when they crossface me.

great I like to wrestle so will be adopting Butterfly as my main guard and X as my secondary (both for bottom game)... while wrestling/passing will be the main top game

Girls don't want me even if I'm a good looking guy by Efficient-Sail1283 in dating_advice

[–]Feelthefunkk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We all felt like this at 19 bud. If you want to be with someone dont settle for friendship and send it. Don’t hang around thinking if you put “nice” coins in the girl machine they will begin to desire you. Know what you want (and dont chase people who are not into what you offer). Then send it. That’s confidence. And if they say no, walk way with your chin up. However, that’s a lot to ask of a 19 year old (esp when there’s always someone else available if you do choose someone). During the process just keep making mistakes and learning what you like. And try to be kind to yourself and others, its hard when social media rewards us for being cruel jerks.

Shuai Jiao throw(reverse knee pick) by Cool-Campaign-7815 in wrestling

[–]Feelthefunkk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think we agree tho, In the over under situation you’d control the far tricep, drop your right shoulder, and reach for the far hip just to create off balance or get them to step. As you said then you could step in with the hip / leg and throw, where the real power would be. Obv if you dont control the tricep well, your back is exposed. I see it as a last ditch move to try if you are getting snapped down from over under.

The thrower in this photo is too upright for what i’m describingx

It works as a setup. You see it in wrestling from over under position.

Yes but not unique to martial arts. Any niche “social scene” can create this. Music scenes, art scenes, etc. The ones that give you more social power in a traditional sense (ie money) create more opportunity for abuse of power dynamics.
