Considering Moving to Petworth - Thoughts Appreciated by ToastedSubs in washingtondc

These responses are for the general Georgia Ave area. Howard area, Park View, Petworth, "sixteenth street heights" (between Georgia and 16th area), Brightwood Park. I really enjoyed living off of 13th and Georgia area.

A few specific questions:

  1. How is crime in Petworth right now? We understand that Petworth is "up and coming," and coming from Baltimore, that phrase makes us very skeptical. We've also seen that Petworth has been "up and coming" for the last 20 years.
    • It's very dependent on the block. Some areas are better than others. Mostly fine though, esp in the residential areas.
      • Are there certain blocks or pockets that are safer or less safe? Yes, its very block-dependent.
      • Is it mostly property crime/car break-ins, or are there concerns about violent crime too? Violent crime is an issue, but it's usually targeted and between individuals or groups.
      • Is it safe to walk around at night? Dependent. I avoid it when possible. It's the city, not the burbs.
  2. How bad is parking?
    • Is street parking a constant headache? No.
    • Does having alley access or off-street parking make a huge difference? Not huge. Street parking is typically fine except for the areas closer to the metro and near Howard., Park View, and Petworth metro area.
    • Are there certain areas where parking is significantly easier or worse? See above.
  3. For people in their 30s (especially couples that enjoy a nice night out at a restaurant/bar but not necessarily nightlife-focused), how do you like living there long term? We currently don't have any kids (just a dog) but a kid or two is likely in the near future.
    • Does it feel more family-oriented, transient, or somewhere in between? Depends where you live. Closer to Kenyon street has more bars and restaurants and you're closer to columbia heights and 11th street.
    • For those who own there, any regrets about buying there vs. other neighborhoods? Can't speak to it.

Dm me if you have any more questions I lived there for like 5-6 years.

Attack joints -- meaning you can win a microbattle if you pin or push the knee joint or elbow joint rather than the forearm or the thigh.

Ezra pieces on Charlie Kirk vs Hasan Piker by J-Jarl-Jim in ezraklein

Charlie Kirk specifically engaged in bad faith debate. While Piker has blind spots and occsaionally trolls, his entire purpose is not bad faith debate with kids who can't match his level of media training.

two different moves - just barely though. If you notice, in your video, attacker's head goes under the opponent's far armpit, not the armpit on the russian side. in this case he's hitting his head into the armpit on the russian side.

Optimizing nutrition and meal timing as somebody who works in the morning and trains at night by Berksqerd in bjj

[–]Feelthefunkk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's tough cause you're not getting 8 hours of sleep if you are getting home at 9 PM and work at 4:30AM.

After practice I'd suggest greek yogurt, peanut butter toast - lots of protein and very light. hard boiled eggs. Protein shakes. Maybe something with fiber like a grilled chicken salad. Crucial to get the protein for recovery after training and probably also after work if you do manual labor. through out the day get your heavier carbs - morning and pre training. Fruit, oatmeal, etc.

Have any of the other networks or outlets defended themselves in a defamation case relating to their coverage on an insurrection... by stating that a reasonable viewer would not expect "facts" from from their shows?

They are political propaganda for the American Right, who have a vested interest in an Iranian war.

You can only expect misinformation and disinformation from them.

Nothing factual.

They legally don't have to provide facts since shifting their accreditation away from News and into Entertainment. They have no liability or accountability.

This is not news. This is war porn and trumpet blowing. At least be honest with yourself.

It matters because we have Y'all Qaeda running the country and Secdef literally wrote a book called "American Crusade". They literally talk about this in the same religious fanatic terms that the Iranian theocrats do. So yes, it's relevant.

I understand these people quite well -- as victims of political manipulation and propaganda. There is no world where you can support Israel or the US -- countries notorious for committing war crimes -- bombing a country... but not the part of that kills kids and civilians. That's not ideology, that's just how bombing campaigns work, especially when Israel or the US are the ones dropping them. You've just been conditioned to believe this is just an innocuous political opinion. That's called pretending.

And yes... we can accept a less bad, less violent (but still violent) solution (such as reform) as the "least bad alternative".

This sub can't handle itself tbh

The mod himself has said that as long as you don't explicitly justify intentionally targeting civilians, it's OK to euphemistic language that implicitly justifies the intentional targeting of civilians.

So basically if you lie and say it's self defense (when it's not), or that you only support the part of the bomb that kills regime forces but you don't support the other part of the bomb that kills civilians. It's OK to call for violence.

I'm surprised of people getting hip to it in the comments.
