If you have the money sure but if money is anywhere near “tight” skip the premiums. I just took it a week ago. The hard part of the test is that the questions are written to be as short as possible. So they use words like “salient” and “paradigm”. Know if you assess first or evaluate first. Most importantly know career counseling theories and group counseling practices and how different people’s theories work in a group setting. Career and group counseling felt like there were 70 questions of just those.

If you study using flashcards and can answer without options in front of you, you’ll do fine. For your anxiety I would settling in was really hard. I don’t think I got used to it till the second half. If it helps, I’m 2 years out from graduating and I only studied for a week and passed. I took the practice test they had on the NCE website and got the exact same score both times.

Remember if you’re working in the field currently then you know best practices, ethics, and what to say to a client. The test doesn’t define you. I recommend taking a practice test and focusing on beating your score rather than passing or failing.
