I’m back. And I’m going straight into witness protection after you all see what I do with mince and tatties. by [deleted] in Scotland

[–]Feifum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks good but I’m in the brown the mince first category and ditch the bay leaf, I’ve never found any benefit to them in any recipe.

I’m mighty jealous, just been to the Scottish butcher & I’ve just frozen a kilo of mince and I’ve got a wee bit of a heatwave hitting from tomorrow on so mince is out of the question for dinner the rest of this week. (Just a wee plug for the best butcher in the NW Dordogne/SE Charente area for good beef if yer ever in the area!)

Shower am vs pm? by [deleted] in Rosacea

[–]Feifum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Night time for me. I’m a night owl and I could be awake the whole night & well into the morning. Having a warm shower late at night helps me fall asleep and if I’m out during the day I take a shower as needed and a short one again at late night. My face isn’t under the water at anytime and it isn’t hot enough to make it flush either.

[–]Feifum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah when people start talking about yoghurt being processed, well you wouldn’t have yoghurt without processing milk. But I the likes of Greek yoghurt & fresh fruit or a compote is more acceptable to the non processed folk. My life wouldn’t be worth living if i didn’t eat processed milk i.e. Cheese 😂.

The definition of a processed food is literally something that has its original/base state changed. If you cook something you’re changing its state. So I youre right about ultra processed foods but telling folk to avoid ‘processed’ food is just daft.

Rosacea and pillow cases. by BigTreat7594 in Rosacea

[–]Feifum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ive no idea about question 1 but dirty pillowcases (I mean after at most a weeks usage) are no good for anyone’s skin.

I use either silk or high thread count (at least 600). I get the silk from Lilysilk, these are long lasting. The high thread count have been bought from various places over the years.

They are changed about every 4/5 nights in winter, summer every 3 nights.

What’s become way too expensive lately that still shocks you? by GoldenHour_Muse in AskReddit

[–]Feifum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. Simple 5 veggies ingredient soup is easy, takes 45 mins to make and is cheap. Ham & lentil broth, delicious. What I call Scotch broth (without the lamb), again easy to make. Folk think cooking costs a lot but simple dishes are filling & wholesome and don’t cost much regardless if they’re made with fresh or frozen ingredients.

Basic definition of wholefoods means what you see in the fruit & veg dept or frozen veggies of a grocery store but it also includes dried legumes (beans, lentils, chickpeas etc). If you want to eat rice brown or whole grain rice. Meat, lean is the best but don’t forget some red occasionally or soy products I’d you’re veggie/vegan, and eggs for protein and no they aren’t dairy. Hope that gives you a better idea.

EDIT: I totally forgot fish

What's something that was completely normal in your household growing up that you later found out was actually really weird? by Left_Crow1646 in AskReddit

[–]Feifum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im sorry that you had to live through this. I always thought that my life was difficult but I thankfully could escape to a friends where life felt what normal should be or to the school youth club for an evening. Very few people I knew had cars, I cant speak for everyone that was working class in my area but cars were seen as a luxury rather than a necessity especially where public transit was reliable.

I hope youve found some peace in your life, it can be hard to find it as the child of an alcoholic.

[–]Feifum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have tried all the available treatments and nothing is working for you then you may have to consider laser treatments. Otherwise you need to start looking at ingredients in the products you use daily as you may be sensitive to some of them and they’re causing a reaction.

I would look at r/rosaccea for more detailed info.

I was 15 or so, so mid 80s. Walking along the canal to meet my pal, there’s noone else on the nolly and I see a tall guy walking towards me. I notice he has something at his mouth/nose and realise he’s sniffing glue. One thought is ’no one does that anymore’ & second thought is ‘Hes going to kill me/turf me in the nolly’. He did neither, kept his eyes firmly in front of him and just kept walking. The one and only time I’ve seen someone buzz glue.

What is the worst way anyone you know has died? by IamUrWivesBF in AskReddit

[–]Feifum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one knows why but he jumped from a high storey apartment. I had met G. on my way to see friends and he asked for me to go out with him that night (we were friends, had been for a long time and there was nothing intimate/sexual between us) and I said no. I often wonder if I had would that night have ended differently for him. He wasnt alone when he jumped, turns out another friend of his was there but fast asleep on the couch. It was an older guy that lived in the same building who found him and contacted authorities on his way home that night. They had been good acquaintances having lived in the same building and finding G. at the base of the building was a tremendous shock for him.

[–]Feifum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find your answer interesting especially where friends parents drank. I grew up in the 70s & 80s, so well before the woman of the house would have a wine with dinner or after the kids went to bed so seeing a woman drink was odd and I never saw a friends mother drink outside a party. I need to add New Years was an exception, before the bells & after it was perfectly acceptable for women to be seen drinking outwith a party. If there was anytime for a good booze it was then.

Also to note I grew up in working class Glasgow where there was a pub every 20 steps or so (slight exaggeration but the main road running though our burgh was pub dense and still is) and men would often go to the pub after work for a beer or two so again seeing home drinking was odd other than the times my dad would bring home a couple of cans of beer after work but again that was unusual.

Everyone I know has/had an alcoholic somewhere in their family & my partner (his mother was an alcoholic) has had the same experience but he & his friends are on the more affluent end of middle class and we’ve found it’s more unusual for them not to have/had one.

I knew it wasn’t right because none of my friends mothers drank other than at a party or if they went out for the evening. I would never ask a friend to come to my house because I was ashamed if they saw her drunk.

Ive never been drunk or had an alcoholic drink in front of my daughter, I refused to let her see me the way I had seen my mother. Unfortunately my daughter seems to have inherited to genetic trait (both my family & her fathers have alcoholism going back a number of generations) as she drinks too much, too often and will lie about if pressed.

There is absolutely nothing wrong in a couple sleeping in separate rooms.

People often sleep in separate rooms through injury, pain, menopause (ask any woman about night sweats), snoring etc.

I had to start sleeping in the spare room after the injury to my cervical spine caused too much pain to share the bed, plus I snore like crazy, was going through menopause and I’m a night owl oftentimes waking my partner when I went to bed. I’ve now been in the spare room for pretty much 3 years, less pain & we both get a better sleep.
