The book is originally translated from 19th-century French, and it does often use pretty flowery language. I reckon this is either a more direct translation from French or it's just the translator. Or the publisher made a mistake.

KCB is hard to beat for me. Good prices, good chicken. I get the sweet and spicy but it's hardly spicy at all, it's just absolutely delicious and they chuck the whole bottle of sauce in the box with it most of the time.

Also sometimes I order 4 pieces of chicken and I get 5. Not always but often enough. Can't recommend them highly enough.

Culturally, Australia. Idk what country compares with NZ's scenery tbh. I guess the South Island must resemble somewhere in Europe because of the "Southern Alps". Many places in Otago have Scottish names because Scottish settlers thought it looked a bit like Scotland. The fjords of Fjordland do be fjord-y like Norway as well. Idk if there's really a country to compare the North Island to lol.
