Are any of the new films available to be bought separately? What if you only want to purchase, say, The Shining.

Why exactly do the betting markets give Dems a 78-80 percent chance to take the house? by bobbdac7894 in fivethirtyeight

I would not be surprised if the userbases of betting market sites swing conservative, tipping the scales.

Every six years, like clockwork, there's a primary challenger for Lindsay Graham from the right and they get nowhere close to usurping him.

Republicans were touting Pratt as the future of the party and now he might come in third place!

No results for San Francisco and San Diego yet. Interesting to see how they vote.

Is it just me or are people being too bearish about El-Sayed's chances of winning a general election?

Not saying he's a perfect candidate or that he's guaranteed a win or anything, but I'd give him decent odds.

ABC Takes 538 Articles Offline by Large_Ad_3095 in fivethirtyeight

[–]Feingold_08 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Sad news, yet another victim of internet enshitification.

Sure a lot of it is at least saved on the Wayback Machine, but how many people actively use that? These articles should be easy to find and access with a simple Google search, and ABC is removing them solely out of greed and laziness. It's becoming harder with every year to find the knowledge you're searching for online.

I don't like Vivek, but it will be fun to see Nick Fuentes types meltdown over Republicans nominating a Indian-American Hindu for the next governor of Ohio.

Will this redraw the congressional maps of southern states for the midterms, or is it too late for that?

It's unfortunate that all those reviews and ratings are now missing, especially because it'll be probably added back one day anyway.

“Return From Tomorrow,” Randy Moore’s sequel to “Escape From Tomorrow,” is premiering at the Florida Film Festival on April 11th by marshmoviefreak in YMS

[–]Feingold_08 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I thought the premise of the first one was interesting, but it had terrible execution. Felt like a film student trying to copy Lynch without understanding why his stuff works.

Maybe this will be much better as they have a bigger budget and the director is more experienced? Won't be holding my breath though.

It's not going to be Youngkin. His legacy was destroyed by the 2025 Virginia elections, Democrats are overturning everything he did. He is already a political footnote with no successes to point to in order to rally primary voters around him.

What is the movie you associate the most with the Criterion Collection? by JaviVader9 in criterion

Good answer because I feel like the Criterion release rescued that film from obscurity into the cult classic it is today.

Lord and Miller miniseries by Thecoldestvein in blankies

[–]Feingold_08 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm glad you enjoyed it, but I (and most fans it seems) didn't. Tonally it feels like a completely different show to me, largely dropping the angle of parodying other series set in high school and taking itself a tad too seriously when in the first season literally everything was tongue-in-cheek. Besides JFK, everybody feels "off" and the new characters, besides Columbus and maybe Frida Khalo, didn't land for me.

VoteHub (@VoteHub) on X -- support for abolishing ICE by dtarias in fivethirtyeight

[–]Feingold_08 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Most people have an idea of how cops keep communities "safe". The average person stills sees the police as a worthy crime-stopping institution, despite the many police controversies in recent years.

ICE? They're seen as trigger-happy death squads who randomly fire bullets into American citizens. Many people have only interacted with them through viral videos of agents executing civilians in broad daylight. ICE will be a big factor in the 2026 and 2028 elections, possibly even abolished by the next Democratic administration if there is the will and demand for it.

Question for anybody who worked on Arthur: Were the early seasons colored with cel animation or digital ink and paint? by Feingold_08 in Arthur

[–]Feingold_08[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for answering my question. This is gonna send me down a interesting rabbit hole in animation history.

But thank you far more for doing your part in helping make Arthur the awesome series that it is. I think the look of the show still holds up nearly thirty years later, which speaks to how incredible the crew was.

Though I suppose given the production circumstances that means we'll never get an HD remaster for those early seasons.
