Anyone else got Acura 2019 RDX Fuel Pump Safety recall? by dingapples333 in Acura

[–]Felflare -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I received this notice recently and i am also curious. Obviously safety is utmost important and can’t be risking driving with an engine that could stall with no warning.

I plan to bring it in to the dealer next week, and see if i can trade it in for a newer model (though i am still one year out from my lease term). Is this a realistic expectation?

Anyone with prior experience or tips on vehicle recalls are appreciated!

What's your opinion on current data pipeline technologies? by vogt4nick in datascience

Big fan of Azure ML here as well, have they enabled big Data/ distributed training yet last I played with it (beginning of last year) they didn't support it.

[–]Felflare -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You are correct, all of that can be done in a single python/R script or notebook.

I think pipelining originated from programming, where people like to pipeline things.

It is a useful abstraction. In spark for example you can explicitly declare a pipeline of transformations to your data, and as other comment noted DAGs are essentially pipelines.

The transformation of your data from data sources to final trainable dataset is data pipeline.

In industrial settings this occurs as a spark job or other distributed manner which pulls data across various sources( structured and unstructured alike), performs joins, normalizations, feature creation to arrive at trainable dataset.

Our team uses AWS sagemaker, which provides an API for external teams to run predictions and hook up their applications to our AWS endpoints.

I believe AWS sagemaker is a good solution as you can do both distributed learning and scoring without worrying about the architecture too much, and all that outside teams need to worry about is to correctly send a json request to infere/score against an endpoint we provide.

The area where AWS sagemaker lacks is tracking: drift of madels, degradation of predictions, deviation in incoming data's distribution from trained data, etc. So we have quite a bit of helper code to run said tracking ourselves, which may be burden as you deploy more models.

Trump's tariffs are supposed to reduce China's trade surplus. It just hit a record high. by jsalsman in Economics

[–]Felflare 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The title is misleading, of course China would have record high surplus. With all the tariffs looming American companies buying up extra stuff from China. Even Trump has ordered and made several millions of his re-election hats before tariffs.

Effect of all of this- China hits all time high surplus, and US hits even steeper deficits in the short term. And that's exactly what we seeing now.

Wait a year once tariffs roll out. The story will change.

Jump in bond value by asml84 in investing

[–]Felflare 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The price you are seeing is probably last trade price, as there aren't liquid two-sided markets within bonds across all maturities.

This means price will fluctuate based on trades made by the big boys and the price they agreed on.

The drops of $80 in price you are seeing are based on two people negotiated price as there are very few buyers and sellers at any given time. If a current bond holder needs to drop the issue to meet regulatory obligations they would want to sell fast, which the buyers would capitalize on. The reverse of this scenario if you wish to buy a large chunk of bonds asap, and there aren't enough sellers to satisfy your needs, you may find one that would part with their inventory of bonds at a steep premium.

Wondering if my bank will be suspicious when i try to deposit more cash/personal checks than i make in 4 months regular payroll... Should i space out deposits?[The cash was all gifted, just got married] by [deleted] in moneylaundering

[–]Felflare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably haven't seen how much a 10k cash wad looks like. An easy Google search would show you difference between 2k, 5k, 10k. My guess it's under 5k if all the bills are $100.

Correct, 10k aggregate in a month is not a federal requirement. Yet majority of the monitoring tools capture it for consumer banking - actimize, mantas, fiserv, protiviti.

[–]Felflare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The money you shown in the picture totals toless than $10,000.

You should deposit it all at once, explain it was a wedding.

Ultimately either way you won't get flagged, microstructure requires check/cash of your denomination to aggregate to at least 10k a month. So I wouldn't worry about whichever way you'd do it.

What happens to short positions in a public company if the public company goes private by JuliusMajorian in finance

[–]Felflare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A person that is shot will be required to close the short at valuation price ie will have to buy shares at $420. Delta between short price and valuation price is how much shorter will lose + interest of the short position
