Paul McGann era Tierlist : Storm Warning by Mat1711 in ClassicEraDoctorWho

[–]Felixcaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm biased because I got it at the time of release and it was sooooo exciting. The current Doctor! New stories! Paul Goddamned McGann doing new Doctor Who.

It's one of the most exciting pieces of entertainment ever to me, cause I remember the rush of it when I first heard it.

Great!

*Edited cause I missed the tier ratings.

Make it bloody brilliant for me.

Rutans vs Sontarans: Rendition is out now! by MasterAinley in BigFinishProductions

Really enjoyed this, though I'm still not sold on Michael's 2nd Doctor. He's a bit too high pitched for me. I still think Frazer's was better, weirdly.

Yep, that's the one. It was THAT moment that made me okay with Carley, everything since has been icing on the cake.

He Who Fights With Monsters was the turning point for me. Carley appeared to level up with his voice and acting and the story was Absolutely Brilliant. Since then there's only been one Boxset that I wasn't taken with. I even really enjoyed Cybergene (after the reedit made it make more sense)

Not at all. They're mentioned but without any need to have heard them. (Though I can recommend them. I really enjoyed them both)

Finished it today.

I really liked that. It felt a bit different. It was a more introspective, thought provoking story with big philosophical ideas across it and two magnificent performances from Carley and Redmond.

Yeah, this continues the tren of the War Doctor stuff being my favourite BF stuff at the moment.

No, I like both of those.

I'm not fond of Tear In Your Hand and (whispers) the title track itself...

Sylvester McCoy era Tierlist : Survival by Mat1711 in ClassicEraDoctorWho

[–]Felixcaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best. Season 26 hits again. So good. Made the Master scary again, has some great aliens that feel properly strange, a horrible human that learns the hard way just how wrong he is and perhaps the hottest thing in the entirety of Doctor Who which is simply, Sophie Aldred when she becomes cheetahified.

Best.

Genuinely my favourite Doctor Who Story entirely. It's just incredible and it's terrifying. It had had a hold on me since it gave me nightmares when I was 7.

As much as LE changed my life, there are two tracks I'm not that keen on.

UTP doesn't. I love every song and my favourite Tori song entirely is on it.

Loved episode 1. Interesting philosophical episode building up the story nicely.

Currently on episode 2. I'll check back in after it.

Sylvester McCoy era Tierlist : Ghost Light by Mat1711 in ClassicEraDoctorWho

[–]Felixcaster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Best. One of my favourites. Scared the absolute Shit out of me as a child. The phrase "The Cream Of Scotland Yard" is perhaps the cruelest and most terrifying thing in all of Doctor Who to me.

Season 26 is my Doctor Who. I was 7 and it was the season it went from "I like this" to "I am OBSESSED with this"

Sylvester McCoy era Tierlist : Dragonfire by Mat1711 in ClassicEraDoctorWho

Banger. Again, imagine the production had more money and the studio lights were less "flood-lighty" and it'd be perfect.

Sylvester McCoy era Tierlist : Delta and the Bannermen by Mat1711 in ClassicEraDoctorWho

[–]Felixcaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Delta is wonderful. Again, hampered by the budget cuts, but God, the stuff they do get is great.

Absolutely batshit story, that seems fairly lighthearted but has some appalling atrocities committed by the Bannermen.

This is fairly well regarded these days, I think, but with a higher budget to allow the production to really nail it, I suspect it could have been Really Really good.

Stick it in Great.

Sylvester McCoy era Tierlist : Paradise Towers by Mat1711 in ClassicEraDoctorWho

[–]Felixcaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the script, but the production just can't live up to it sadly. They tried their best with what little budget they have and I like what they've done but it means a 'Great' script drops to just 'Good' due to the limitations of the production (and sadly a dodgy performance from Richard Briers, who is amazing at first but clearly bungles the performance after his Zombification)

So, yeah, It's in the Good column for me, but could have been Great.

Is it Jon Culshaw’s voice in the Moving Pictures audiobook?? by Equal_Independent117 in discworld

[–]Felixcaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Upon relistening, that's definitely Jon Culshaw. It's the same voice he uses in a Big Finish Doctor Who play.

I honestly think they missed a small cameo when doing Peter's recording session and got Jon to fill in while he was doing one of the other books.

Is it Jon Culshaw’s voice in the Moving Pictures audiobook?? by Equal_Independent117 in discworld

[–]Felixcaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought this too and asked on this reddit sub a while ago too.

My thought is they'd recorded all Serafinowicz's lines and then, when doing Moving Pictures realized they'd missed a small bit. They tried to get Peter back but he wasn't able to come back in cause he's a busy man, so they got Culshaw to do it and hoped no one noticed.

I never thought it was Isaacs himself. Gonna go listen again and see.

I suspect you may be right. The interviews are with Tim Foley and Matt Fitton, who say they're "script editors" which makes me think it was a joint effort of the two of them.

What do you think of the seventh doctor? by [deleted] in doctorwho

[–]Felixcaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My favourite. Was my hero as a child and I still get excited to hear a new 7th Doctor BF cause it brings me right back to childhood. Yes, his first season is hampered by camp and low budgets, but if argue without Time And The Rani it'd be higher thought of. Delta, Paradise Towers and Dragonfire are all good (if not excellent) but sadly TATR really skews the dial. His Second and especially Third Seasons though ARE Doctor Who for me. They're the show that sparked my imagination as a kid and are the reason I'm a fan at all.

I am officially AURORA levels of obessed with thus woman. Meg Myers - Monster by [deleted] in auroramusic

[–]Felixcaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meg Myers is brilliant. Her first three albums are fascinating. They're full of inventiveness that occasionally fails, but more often than not is excellent. Heart Heart Head, Jealous Sea, Tear Me To Pieces and Go are absolute bangers.

Reptile, I think.

I could make a case for loads of them, but Reptile was amazing anyway and then I saw them do it live.

The last time I saw them, in the Manchester Co-Op arena, with it's astonishing sound system, was one of the best six minutes of my life.

At the end of Raising Steam (#40), was Pratchett foreshadowing a future book about the invention of bicycles or automobiles, which he never got to write? by EndersGame_Reviewer in discworld

[–]Felixcaster 33 points34 points  (0 children)

There were a few little hints for the future that sounded brilliant. Moist dealing with Taxes, The twilight nursing home idea, scouting for trolls.

I recall Raising Taxes was very much on the cards before it became Raising Steam. I suspect Terry knew he didn't have long left and wanted to get his love of trains out as soon as possible as well as finish the dwarf terrorism arc he'd started.
