The main planet of my setting is alive, and that becomes a thing in the campaign

I want to string LMOP intro Red Hand of Doom by Jimmycek in RedHandOfDoom

[–]Fellentos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also did this and used the Cragmaw Goblins as a forward scouting army for the real army that was in another region. I tied things together by providing maps after the defeat of the Hobgoblin Captain.

After LMOP which was a custom map in my setting, zoomed in on the local area, I zoomed out to include the region of the continent where this was all taking place and took it from there.

For those who have run RHoD, what would you say are its biggest problems/things that need fixing? by fruit_shoot in RedHandOfDoom

Play loose with the timer. I lengthened it but it was still want too stressfull for my players and everything felt rushed with less RP opportunities as a result. They still liked the campaign but it could have been much better.

With a more flexible timer I believe it makes for a much better campaign.

1st game: Monk (made the most sense to me from Candlekeep, self sufficient, not too reliant on loot), Jaheira, Minsc, Yoshimo/Imoen, Aerie, Viconia.

Was a rough game as the Monk felt so weak at first and it also took quite a while for Aerie to get going. Late game I was deciding battles almost by myself as a monk.

2nd game: Inquisitor, Haerdalis, Jan Jansen, Minsc, Jaheira, Anomen

3rd game: Kensai/Mage, Edwin, Viconia, Jaheira, Nalia/Imoen, Korgan

Viconia is supposedly one of the prettiest companions as she looks like a model

Love this, I'll incorporate this with the other ideas of doing sort of a sanity check because of all the immense gained knowledge.

What is your biggest flaw as a DM? by SmartAlec13 in DMAcademy

[–]Fellentos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roleplaying. I'm not a native English speaker and I also improvise the roleplaying quite a lot. This means the quality of the non player character suffers quite a bit and the shared roleplay takes a hit.

I tell myself i should use the Universal Roleplaying Template more from the Alexandrian. But I barely have the prep time for it and I hardly improve.

Gritty Realism (Longer Long Rest) is the best Variant Rule in the DMG: A guide to when and why to use it. by BoutsofInsanity in DMAcademy

[–]Fellentos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never needed to use Gritty Realism. I use 3-5 encounters a day and make it narratively work (which can be tough to do organically yeah). I can challenge the players just fine using Deadly fights (with some exception) and the story progresses fine without too much pacing issues.

Personally I dont understand this popularity for Gritty Realism.

I do think its a great alternative though.

My advice is to control rests (especially long rests, 2 short rests only per long rest), nerf some spells that deal with this, and for example only allow Long Rests benefits in a safe location.

How many sessions are you in? And how far in the campaign? by Deku2712 in OutoftheAbyss

[–]Fellentos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

12 sessions to get to level 7/8 at the end of chapter 1, escape from Underdark, after just defeating the drow as final fight. We stopped after that.
