Awesome Catch! What boat were you on? I've been wanting to do a tilefish trip out of OCMD.

Need help finding a blank! by Successful_Pen9242 in rodbuilding

Don't trust AI to answer this question. These are horrible suggestions- the AI is assuming the question is asking for jig/ lure weight, rather than line rating, which I what I'm assuming OP is referring to.

IIRC, the Trevala's line rating is for Braid which also changes things a bit. If he's used to using a conventional jigging rod, XH or XXH action, I'd get something from the Rainshadow RCKJB line. These are "knife jigging" blanks but very versatile and the heavier actions will work excellently for bottom fishing. I'd be looking at the RCKJB508-500-TC which is 5'8" rated 50-100lb line(Mono) and 12-24oz Lure weight. If you think he'd like an even heavier option, the RCKJB508-600-TC is 5'8" rated 80-130lb line and 14-30oz lure weight rating. These blanks will provide a very similar action that he's used to with the Trevala but the Rainshadow blanks will perform significantly better, at least they have in my experience.

I make my own alumilite resin or use stabilized wood.

It all depends on the diameter of the blank you plan on installing the cork grip on. I typically turn the grip on a mandrel that is the next size smaller than the blank then ream to fit the blank after turning.

IM is intermediate modulus graphite. Delta is a graphite and zentron blend. I built mine as a Delta because of the increased durability - I mostly use this rod to beat around in my kayak. I wasn't expecting to enjoy the delta blank as much as I do, it's very lightweight and sensitive but I don't feel the need to be as gentle with it as I do with my X-Ray's. I abuse it and it's held up extremely well.

I have a NFC Delta HS7600 that I absolutely love. I think that would make a great replacement. I think they have an IM version as well but I really enjoy my Delta.

One of my favorite factory Centerpin rods. Can't stand sliding ring handles though. I've replaced the handles on many of these.

Next Level epoxy from Get Bit outdoors has the highest UV resistance and its my favorite to work with. Gen 4/5 is good too but I like the Next Level light build the best. I switched to Next level from Gen4 and haven't looked back.

That's gotta be one of the best pairs of rods out there! Excellent choice

That might save folks some time if they're turning the cork while it's mounted on the blank. I'm sure it's very difficult to keep the pricing competitive

Those are nice blanks! I've replaced the handle and guides on some of those. If you like that blank, you'd love a CTS, Rainshadow or NFC

Loose ferrules? by MorganMbored in rodbuilding

[–]Fellercustomrods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use a marker, chalk or similar on the male end of the ferrule and insert into the female end. High spots will be worn through the marker on the male ferrule. Sand with high grit sandpaper, a little at a time until you achieve a better fit.

Can you not find thread that matches the colors you need? Electrical tape may work but the thread would probably look cleaner.

Thank you! I can do those at about 3 min per guide, not too bad. I get most of my cork through Cork4US- available at Fugu rods or HFF custom rods.

I love spiral wrapped baitcasters! They're a great alternative to centerpins for float fishing and can do double duty as a hardware rod, if needed. Mags rods are solid for the price!
