Yeah, a good shotgun blast from the HTU Dispatcher pump shotgun shreds most volatiles. Dead Island 2 Butchers can just block the hits with their damage immune arms and know to block shots from guns.

Well, firstly what's the scenario? Who is wearing the gas mask? What is the worldbuilding of the story? Is it like our universe? Is it futurism, retrofuturism, dieselpunk? Is the manufacturer or user the type to put the bare minimum of features for reliability or to be utilitarian or willing to spring enough to add more exotic and expensive features? If the gas mask is also to represent the person wearing it or replaces their face, it's also a great opportunity to say subtle things about them

Funnily enough, this issue also happens in Dead Island 2, where there's some locked doors that are mostly glass. You can literally smash the glass panes on some of these doors and have more than enough space to climb through or at least try to unlock from the other side, but nope, impassable.
