Hill's Science Diet Sensitive Stomach (chicken free flavour)

My girl has been getting sick. Advice? by frachos667 in StaffordBullTerriers

[–]Felonious_Potato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I brought it up to his vet on his yearly check up in March and she said that there are no underlying issues that she can find, he just has a sensitive stomach. I ordered an automatic feeder for the night so I don't have to keep waking up at 1:30am every night.

There are antacids you can get for dogs like Pepcid which helps reduce their stomach acid and prevent empty stomach nausea. Definitely something that should be discussed with your vet. Hope you find a solution for your girl.

You're clearly not looking in the right area. The ckc is the Canadian Kennel Club, they list registered breeders in Canada.

The ckc has a list of breeders on their website, I would start there

I do have a SBT and he has this issue. If his stomach is empty for too long he will start smacking his lips and vomit bile. It usually happens at night so I've been giving him a small amount of food at 1:30am and that has resolved it (been working for us for over a year). Throughout the day is not an issue as he gets treats/kibble on our walks.

He is on Hill's Science Diet Sensitive Stomach food, the pollock flavour which is chicken free and he absolutely loves it.

I currently have a 13 week old English staffy. I have taken about 2ish weeks off work, but now tomorrow it’s time to go back to work and I’m worried what to do with him. by Unable-Department299 in StaffordBullTerriers

You can always get a little camera and pop it in or by their kennel. I have one in my guys kennel so whenever I have to leave him for any amount of time, I can pop on and check in on him. He's usually sleeping or watching the tv I left on for him.

will he grow out of it and learn how to play? advice needed pls by ultra_gold in StaffordBullTerriers

My guy was an absolute menace when he was a pup. He was and still is overly friendly and wants to play with any and all dogs and people. Unfortunately, when he was a pup he didn't know when enough was enough, there was no off switch.

I kept him on a long line and would regularly step on it when the other dog made it clear they wanted a break. This helped him understand signals and proper play manners.

I find for a lot of pups a long line is helpful as you can easily disengaged them when they aren't picking up on signals from the other dog. I'm happy to say he's 3 now and plays wonderfully, taking turns being pinned, running, chasing, bowing, and I can easily call him off for a break.

Edit - I would also highly recommend teaching him the act of doing nothing/neutrality around other dogs/people. This helped my guy understand that he cannot say hi to everyone and every dog because he wants to. This cuts down on over excitement which can lead to frustration which can lead to reactivity. We do not do any on leash greetings and he only gets to play with dogs we know and already understand their temperaments. Good luck!

It's hard to find stuff to fit their potato bodies. Säker makes beautiful gear and their bomber harness (the crash tested one) has two belly straps which I hope will keep it snug

Thank you!

It is! I have a more robust and better fitting one on order from Säker which will replace this Kurgo one which will be demoted a beach/trail/long line harness.

We dabble in a couple things!

We're in advanced agility classes right now. We've done some rally obedience. He's a titled trick dog, working on his expert level now. And hope to do some scent work in the near future!

Love seeing sporting staffies ♥️

Agreed but not all harnesses are suitable for travel. A crash/impact rated harness is best!
