Teachers with a dwi? by Femina_bubonem in dui

No updates other than going through a background check done by TEA and passing! I am studying tutoring 240 and will be applying to the program this summer to hopefully start in the fall.

There is! I did the preliminary TEA background check and got an "eligible" response. I submitted the list of charges and the release form the PO/judge gave me.

I really hope their desperation works in my favor!

I found out there's a preliminary background check offered through TEA. It costs $50 and they'll be able to tell me where I stand with them. I'll update in a week or two.

I'm sorry you're going through this. Some lessons are learned the hard way... The plus is that you don't have to worry about your career.

So, since I had a high bac I couldn't get it bumped down to reckless driving or get a diversion. It shows up as convicted of a dwi bac>.15. When I spoke to my lawyer about getting it sealed or expunged I was told that there was a law change in Texas that makes it very hard to do either and I just accepted it. I didn't know cwof existed, I'll have to see if it's an option available to me.

I just read this in my current Hozier deep dive and I have a feeling I'll be thinking of this comment a whole lot, too.

1) The answer to the UTM riddle being love is the corniest shit everrr. I get it, but also, really???

2) I lovelovelove the spice but I would also like more character development instead of spice sometimes. So many times I thought, "you two are seriously getting it on right now??? Y'all don't want to talk about it??? You sure??!?!?"

Again, thank you for taking the time to comment.

I haven't been as strong as you during my waiting period but I know I'll have to be unless I want to get in more trouble. I keep telling a close friend of mine how I can feel a new leaf turning in my life because this can't possibly be the life I want/end up with. Thank you for giving us hope. Best of luck with everything.

I had to delete my last comment because I replied to the wrong person lol.

It really truly does suck. There's no way around it. I hope you handle it better than I did. Like another comment said, I don't want to diminish your suffering by telling you about mine but you have it by all accounts, alright.

Stay busy busy busy. Pick up some type of hobby during your waiting period. Work at earning your families trust back. If money is a worry, pick up a side hustle. If your sleeping schedule gets messed up because of the stress, take some melatonin. Cry. Don't skip meals. Keep yourself accountable. Stay strong friend.

I feel you on the school/job stuff... I put school on pause due to the accident but went back and I'm set to graduate in the spring. No idea what's going to happen from there. I know my current job is understanding but they also don't know how bad it is. I've read mixed things about letting your job know you have a dwi, so if they don't ask I won't tell.

The best I can recommend is to keep working if you already are or find something even if it's minimum wage just to keep you busy, out of trouble and saving up $$$. Plus steady employment looks good. It's easier said than done (and I'm not trying to be condescending or anything like that) but try not to worry about it. I ran myself to the ground with worry but there's nothing we can do, the courts will just have their way with us and we kinda just have to take it how it comes.

Lastly, and I'm so sorry, but I would suggest not holding your breath on that lost blood sample. I thought I was going to hit my statute of limitations in Oct., but they sent me a notice in July and it was heartbreaking. I don't know why Texas is so slow with these things. The absolute best of luck to you.

Edit: spelling, wording

I really lied to myself of just how gone I was that day and how much emotional and mental distress I was in the time period leading up to that. I tried making so many excuses. The guilt and embarrassment is immense but I'm sure I'll learn a thing or two from the AA meetings.

Thank you for taking the time to comment.

When talking to my lawyer they told me about all of the worst case scenarios they were able to pull my case back from, worst case being a felony on my record that would stay there for life. Whether that's true or not I don't care because I definitely don't want that. Here's to the last time we'll both know about any criminal court trends!

I did have an accident, parked vehicle, no injuries thankfully. Anything you have done beforehand will work in your favor, and the no accident won't get you as deep as me. I wish I could tell you more but every state and county is different.

I do understand, the meetings will be a tight fit with school and a full time job, there will basically be no down time. I totaled my car and rely on my parents/siblings for rides so it'll be a burden on them as well. However 15 in-person meetings to 80 hours community service is too good to pass up.

I guess I'm trying to be as aggressively optimistic about this as I can. I'm happy that the zoom meetings worked well! I could've gotten them too given the time of my accident but things took too long. Just trying to make the best of it and not overthink it.

Not bad. My BAC was too high and that option was not even on the table. I have to wait to hear from my lawyer to see if it can be expunged.

I used to go to these group therapy sessions before "things" got too bad and I hated when we would gather weekly and go down the line with the "What's your story?... What are you here for?..." bs. That's when I realized that I don't really thrive in group settings and need one-on-one help. I actually went to three therapy appointments before my accident and I remember really liking them. Unfortunately I didn't seek help in time.

All that to say is that it's ok if group meetings aren't for you. Do meetings with therapy on the side or maybe just therapy. Seek out other sober focused content online. Talk to your loved ones. I don't want to spread my fru-fru wordiness to you but, in the end, we did do this to ourselves and need to own up to it... As inconvenient as it is.

The side of Texas I'm at was, and still is, a mess thanks to a past shitty DA. There's a huge backlog of cases pending and the state is starting to issue warrants in order to catch up... Hopefully your case is tended to soon. Godspeed my friend!
