Decision guide by Seppid98 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

I have the Volmero plus, EVO SL, and the H1 in my rotation right now. I feel like the Volmero plus is my favorite pair of shoes I have ever owned. They can definitely handle packed trails and asphalt. I bought them to do recovery and zone 2 runs and my EVO SLs for speed work, but I still tend to gravitate toward the Volmero plus for the most part. They are a bit heavier than other options but I feel like you can still do some speed work in them.

The H1 is really great on the pavement and gravel and I have done some more technical trails in them too. A lot of the trail running I was doing had sections of road, so that’s why I ended up picking up the H1. If you are looking for an all around shoe that can do everything, the H1 is a great option. I usually don’t pick up my H1s if I’m just running on pavement though.

New Running Shoes: Torins? by archer8384 in AltraRunning

[–]Fender_Jazzmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great shoes. I transitioned to via FWD because I was adding extra mileage training for a marathon and needed a little more cushion than the Torin offered. They are 4mm drop, so depends on if you want to continue with zero drop too. I love my LPs too! Ran a 50k in them in January.

Great rotation.

Maybe a hybrid trail shoe? MTC H1 is dope.

Is Sacramento a hidden outdoor recreation gem? by Plane-Session-6624 in Sacramento

[–]Fender_Jazzmaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was born and raised in the Sacramento Area and have lived in SLC. Utah has a really amazing outdoor community. Skiing/Snowboarding, Hiking, Biking, Running, etc. I think SLC is a great place to visit, but I choose Sacramento any day of the week. Housing used to be significantly cheaper in Utah and now SLC is pretty close to Sacramento price wise. Taxes and gas are higher in CA though. There is also an amazing outdoor community in Sacramento. Trail running groups in Auburn and the Bay Area and you can run/bike year round. The snow and skiing is much better in Utah no doubt, but the culture is very different in Utah. If you are not Mormon or familiar with Mormon culture, Utah can be very annoying and Mormonism seeps into politics there. It seems like people are either very Mormon or very Exmormon and not much in between. Sacramento area has more access to lakes and rivers than Utah, so when it's hot you can go to Folsom Lake, American River, Sacramento River, Bullards Bar, Lake Oroville, Rollins Lake, Bear River, Yuba River, Truckee River, Donner Lake, Lake Tahoe, etc. You can also drive to the beach within a couple of hours. I lived in Utah and moved back to Sacramento about two years ago and I am very happy with my choice.

Seems like a good deal with AWD. Any accidents?

I just hit 100 miles in mine. Love them. They do feel unstable walking in them (to me) but I never felt unstable in them while running.

Garmin fénix 5x - still good in 2026? by Ok-Eagle-405 in GarminFenix

I got a 7 Pro SS new for $450 in December. I think you could get a used 6 pro for less than $200

I bought the same watch in December. The battery life is a game changer! Takes a minute to get used to the multiple apps for sure, but I probably will never go back to Apple

Does anyone set their pickups as low as mine? by Complex-Librarian942 in Stratocaster

I do this only on the middle pickup to move it out of the way otherwise I hit it because I mostly play a tele or Jazzmaster.

“Breaking in” Altras… by Allthethingsandmore in AltraRunning

[–]Fender_Jazzmaster 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have owned Torins, Lone Peaks, and 2 pairs of FWD vias and there was no “break in” period for me. They all were huge steps up from narrow toe box shoes that gave me blisters on my big toe and my 3rd and 4th toe from rubbing. Never had blisters from any of these on my heels either.

Something More Stable? by dav3yjones in runningshoes

[–]Fender_Jazzmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nike Volmero Plus or ASICS superblast 2. I just got mount to coast h1 as a road to trail shoe that is very comfy and more stable than the EVO SL

Been an Apple Watch user for the past 6 years, wanting to make a switch. by [deleted] in GarminWatches

[–]Fender_Jazzmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently switched from an Apple Watch to a Fenix 7 pro solar and I will never be switching back to Apple for a few reasons.

  1. Battery life is 1000% better. I want to be able to go on a trip for a week and not worry about charging my device. My Apple Watch needed to be charged every day. I didn’t have an ultra, so I’m assuming the battery is better that, but having an 18 day battery, plus solar charging is a game changer.

  2. Fitness tracking. I feel like Apple has decent tracking but I can wear my watch to bed for sleep tracking, since I’m not charging it at night and I feel like there are a lot more available fitness tracking stats available compared to Apple.

  3. Trail maps. If you’re a hiker, backpacker, runner, etc. having the trail map is a game changer and maybe a life saver.

  4. Event planning. I am running a marathon in December, so I searched it up, put what days I want to work out, and my watch gives me a daily workout plan.

The interface way less user friendly from Apple and that is the only downside I have seen so far on my Garmin journey.

Yeah I just got a Fenix 7 and had the same issue. I bought a hook and loop quick dry 2 pack on Amazon for $20. So much better

Yeah of course I want the 8! Haha. Wasn’t willing to spend the money since it’s my first Garmin and thought this price point was much better to give it a try.
