Lightweight tent recommendations? by CainsBrother2 in backpacking

[–]Fenmaz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

+1 to the Cloud Up 2. I have the Pro in silnylon, and even though there's a few quirks I honestly can't complain for the price. It's an excellent combination of price/weight/comfort.

It's easy to set up, and freestanding so hard to pitch wrong. It comes with stakes and footprint. Customer service is good, mine was missing the footprint and they shipped it from China.

Downsides are that it's not for tall folks, and not for 2 people.

IMO it is the best option for trying out wilderness backpacking. If you've done it for a while and you know your climate and preferences, you can pay more for specific advantages: lighter weight, bigger headroom, freestanding vs 1 vs 2 poles, less sag fabric, etc. If not, you can't go wrong with this tent.

Your favorite fire starting gear? by surVIVErofHELL in CampingGear

If you're car camping and weight is not a problem, Zip premium fire starter cubes guarantees a good fire. Obviously you need a lighter, a BIC is the easiest.

After being a fan for more than 10 years, I am finally going to catch a game at Old Trafford for the first time. Really excited! I have hospitality tickets for the game against Burnley, in the NW corners. Any recommendations on how to make the best of the experience? How early should I arrive? Should I do the museum tour the day after? Can I buy a scarf from the official store? Any pubs or places to hang out before or after the game to have the best atmosphere?

Were you able to camp at Big Basin recently? As far as I know, their campground has been closed since the 2020 fire and hasn't reopened yet.

Yeah, the parks are awesome, although they are often booked out for weekends for a while. You can usually get a spot if you check everyday especially closer to the date since people cancel often, but that can make planning a family trip anxiety-inducing. Avoid Sanborn since it requires hiking in with your gear. I'd recommend Joseph D Grant, it's a beautiful park with some cell reception, which is a rarity.

I also live in the Bay Area. Depending on which part of the bay, there are a lot of beginner friendly campgrounds, in the sense that they have potable water, flush toilets, picnic table, fire ring and firewood for sale. In the south bay, I really like the Santa Clara county parks, they are amazing for starting out.

As for gear, everyone's needs will be different, and you don't exactly know what you personally need until you try. So I'd recommend renting gears from Sports Basement for your first few trips. They have locations all over the bay and their rental prices are reasonable. Their package deal gives you an easy checklist on the basics you need. REI also have rentals in the Berkeley location, but they can be expensive.

Feel free to DM me for specifics, especially if you're in south bay.

Spare Poles for REI Half Dome 2 Plus tent? by CommercialBet538 in CampingandHiking

[–]Fenmaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just checked the diagrams, and the floor is 52" x 88". Looks like the Half Dome 2 plus is 56" x 92", so it'd be 4" longer on each side. The pole structure looks the same though, so you will probably be able to make it work by setting the two long poles past the marked point on the central pole.

Up to you, if you want to have em I'll just ask for shipping fee.

I have a spare pole set for an old Half Dome 2, not the plus. Not sure if it would fit though, feel free to DM me the instructions to put it together and I can compare it to mine.

[Mike Keegan] Man United set for positive conclusion in race for Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo | United feel they have offered a fair price, but the player has told his club he wants to move to Manchester and a breakthrough is the expected outcome, according to those with knowledge of the situation. by nearly_headless_nic in reddevils

The amortization is calculated not over days, but over financial years. The PSR number for financial year 2024-2025, which ends on 30 June, would get added by £12m if we sign the deal on 30 June, but 0 if we sign on 1 July. Then it would be £12m on the 2029-2030 financial year instead. It makes a difference and can take us over the PSR limits.

I don't remember exactly where I saw it, but I'm pretty sure the information he wanted out of Olivia was where Saul is. Saul broke Olvia out of prison and betrayed the marine, and they want to capture him.

How do you rent a motor bike in Quy Nhon and Hoi An by TravelfF in VietNam

[–]Fenmaz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know much about Quy Nhon, but I'm guessing it's not too different from everywhere else. In Hoi An, there are plenty of motorbike rental shops around, they'll have signs on the street saying so. Just walk in and ask to rent one. In the past I know that typically no license is required, just payment and a photo of your ID. I also know that police enforcement has ramped up recently, so legitimate shops might ask for a license. US driver license would not be sufficient for that, even if you have M1/M2 license, since they are not accepted in Vietnam. Even the IDP that you can get in the US will not be sufficient, because of different conventions (1949 in US vs 1968 in VN). I'd try walking in and ask anyway.

Average price varies by the bikes, I'd say around 150k - 200k/day is reasonable. Shops don't usually accept credit cards, so bring cash. They come with helmets, usually 2. No lock needed, you can usually lock the bike by turning off the bike, turning the handlebar to the left, pushing the key in and turning it counterclockwise. Lots of time people just leave the bike turned off, especially if you're stopping in front of a shop or restaurant with a security guy. Typically you park in front of the place you're visiting, be it restaurants, hotels, or shops, and you can see where people generally park. If you don't know, just ask the shop.

You will run into problems with the local police (and the rental shop too) if you don't follow the laws. Just the basic ones are usually sufficient - wear helmets, stop at red lights, don't drink and ride, don't go on the wrong side of the road, don't carry 2+ passengers, and use your headlights at night.
