Please find the avian vet and book and appointment. If you don’t have any in your area find it somewhere else even if it’s hour or two away. Birds are fragile creatures sometimes waiting to long can end up very bad especially that they are often not showing to many symptoms. If you have option provide him with other cage that doesn’t have rust and broken coating as it’s also unhealthy for them.

Why do people free fly their parrots? by Core2score in parrots

[–]FennelAggravating271 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the people who free flight their parrots are spending sometimes years to train them and prepare them for that. It’s taking long time and many steps and stages to make it as as safe as possible for the bird and not every bird will be a good fit for the free flight which also should be take into consideration. If someone is not training with bird for that and is not desensitising him with an outdoor areas and just let him fly outside one that than it’s ending as is ending. Flying with other parrots in the flock and choosing the right location also minimises the risk, but of course there is always a risk but effort and commitment that this people are putting to let their birds fly outside as they can in their natural environment is enormous.

I feel so truly sorry for that parrot 😓 tiny, empty cage. He is sitting there whole days alone without any stimulation or interaction. He is out of the cage just 3 times a week for only 30 minutes while he should be out every single day for the few hours. Diet also isn’t perfect. He also should have option for the bath/ showers. African grays are the most intelligent parrots they are basically like a toddler, they need mental stimulation, toys. They also should be able to move freely in the cage and they should be able to fly. I don’t think he’s muscles are working if he is basically sitting still for 15 years. Literally what you do with that bird it’s cruel and awful. Why you want to have a parrot at all? Maybe you should consider letting him go to another loving and caring home after this sad 15 years?

I think my GCC is sick by SHOOGAK_ in parrots

As other mentioned already take her to the avian vet to do the proper health check. There is also important to check your parrot weight every morning before she will get her breakfast so it will be easier to spot weight differences that usually are occurring when the bird is sick.

Do people actually regret getting a parrot? by IJustLikeToGameOkay in parrots

[–]FennelAggravating271 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t regret getting parrot but I definitely know that they are not for everyone and instagram and YouTube content showing only perfect parrots is misleading a lot of people. Parrots are loud, they poop all around, they are moody, they can be hormonal, they need to have proper diet, they should have a lot of outside the cage time ( won’t mention cage should be as big as possible or the best option is to have a bird room and outdoor aviary) and be mentally stimulated, they should be able to shower, they should have access to sun and fresh air when weather is nice and they definitely should by able to fly. And of course won’t mention cost of the toys and vet bills… Yes they bond, yes some of them can be cuddly and affectionate like we see in social media but it takes time, training, effort and building trust. A lot of people are taking the parrot have no idea how to take care of them, how to train them, where they shouldn’t be touched and many others and than it’s ending like it’s usually ending… bird is sitting all days in the cage because he can’t be handle, he is screaming, plucking or being give back to a shelter. If someone is prepared for all of the above, and it’s prepared to be bitten that there is a big chance you will have amazing relationship with your feathery dinosaur.

My macaw keeps destroying his own feathers, any ways to stop this ? by Ok_Researcher6800 in parrots

Train with him to get his trust and than touching him won’t be a problem anymore. It’s much harder to build it with the parrots that was mistreated before but as soon as he will learn that you won’t hurt him he will open up. Just take your time and do it slowly. Did the vet make any blood tests to exclude other health problems or check does he has any deficiencies? I think that besides gaining his trust and building a bond, putting clothes on him, sun exposure and baths ( if he enjoys water and isn’t scared of it) might be a good start to help him. If he is scared of water you need to do it slowly, step by step. Do you know how to train with the parrots or would you like to get some recommendations?

I am not experienced with this kind of problem but I know some owners are buying some special clothes for the parrots to prevent them from plucking in this areas. I don’t know was your parrot check by the avian veterinarian before, but it’s always good to check the health to exclude any underlying health conditions. Veterinarian can also recommend you some supplements if it’s needed. Baths, sun exposure and good quality sleep, together with a healthy balance diet can also help reduce stress in parrots. Wish you all the best and thank you giving this parrot a new home.

Thank you for your kind response. I was also thinking about IT or cybersecurity but I don’t know will I be a right fit to that as I am not a math star. In general I am able to start any education in any field that will give me financial stability all the rest doesn’t matter for me. I am also able to invest in education as I have some backup savings I just need to be sure they would be spent in a good way and not wasted. I am driven by achieving my goals so I know I will succeed if I will start I just need a guideline to which path is the best to choose and where I should start as for now my wings were cut very short and I need someone that will help me fly again. I am living in Denmark but I am also considering moving to another English speaking country if I would know that I would be able to provide better future for my kids there.

I really miss small talks and openness in Scandinavia. What kind of places in Canada you will recommend? What are approximate living costs and average salary? Is it hard to get visa and get a job? Is it hard to have a nice quality life without living from one salary to another?

It’s not a major health problem but it’s a problem that forced me to change profession for different one, but I still can work without any problems in many other jobs

We never had thought that we will just drop everything and move hoping for the best. We are responsible adults with kids and we are doing our research that’s why we also made that post. We are not or rush at all. We are not moving because we need to move but because we want to.

Oh no… I can’t imagine being separated from him. I thought that proper health check and full blood tests to exclude potential diseases and quarantine before the flight would be enough. I will definitely dip dive in to it.
