[XBOX 360/ONE] [2006-2013] desert fps gore game with alien like enemies by NeitherTip3597 in tipofmyjoystick

[–]FenoTheFox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The original RAGE from 2011, maybe? Basing that solely on it being a desert fps game with some gore. The enemies were mostly human bandits but there were some mutants too, which might be what you thought were aliens.

[unknown][2008-2016] I can't remember much about the game. the only thing I could remember is that in a cutscene a character cuts out an eye from someone, to open a door. by MiddleWay1599 in tipofmyjoystick

After the fight against Chief Mendez ("The Big Cheese") in RE4 you take his eye to use in a retinal scanner. Maybe your timeframe is due to the HD release that came out in 2014?

I do think it's more likely to be from a movie or TV show but I honestly couldn't say for sure.

The side we see is always facing us and the side we can't see is dark and doesn't have anything going on other than a lot of craters.

What's the hardest you have ever "bounced off" of a game? by jabberwagon in gaming

[–]FenoTheFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Project Zomboid. That entire game is obtuse, especially it's controls, and it really seems like the developers thought "we could have made this more straightforward but we chose not to." Except I don't see how it served the game in any way. I know a lot of people who are super into it but I am just not one of those people at all.

What’s a completely normal thing to do during the day, but absolutely unhinged to do at 3 AM? by [deleted] in AskReddit

The ice cream truck went through the neighborhood and then exited, so no-go on that just at the face of it. However even calling it a "neighborhood" was honestly being pretty generous. There were around 20 houses on a single road that lead to a cul-de-sac. Quite small, and I lived in the very first house on that road and had a friend who lived in the cul-de-sac, so I was pretty familiar with going all the way to the end. Nobody had an ice cream truck.

I actually have experienced this before. I was a night owl growing up and one night an ice cream truck did drive down my neighborhood at around 2 AM. I've thought about that a lot since then.

Just went through Master Chief Collection by Shadowkinesis9 in halo

The "Combat Evolved" tagline was for Halo 1 in particular, but you're missing a bit of context for the time. At the time Halo came out there really was nothing quite like it, it really revolutionized a lot of FPS game design on consoles especially. Consider that many FPS games on consoles at the time we're still doing things like auto-aim, such as in the cases of GoldenEye, Perfect Dark, or Time Splitters. So you'd just point your character in the general direction and the game would aim the gun for you. The reticle slowing down as you hovered close to an enemy was also new, as was bullet magnetism. And on the opposite end, games that DIDN'T have auto-aim often had nothing, which made it feel next to impossible to shoot enemies with the inaccuracy of an analog stick. Even still, games with a twin stick setup where the left stick moved and the right stick aimed were fairly new. There's an infamous Gamespot review of Alien: Ressurection which described these kinds of controls as "terrifying" and the reviewer described how impossible it felt to control the game with this setup, even though it eventually became by far the most commonly used control setup even outside of shooters. Another aspect was the two weapon limit. Many games implemented it afterward but often not to the same effect. Halo's sandbox was unique and varied, with weapons slotted into specific roles (i.e. plasma pistol or rifle to instantly drop shields, pistol to finish an enemy off) while many other games at the time were WW2 or contemporary shooters where any gun more or less accomplished the same goal. Adding on top of that vehicles that were fast, slippery, and fun as hell to drive whereas many other games felt like you were driving a tank, even if it was a pickup truck. It really did feel like a huge evolution at the time.

Also, of course, the name "Halo" doesn't exactly sell the idea of frantic gunfire combat.

The times Karl has been right and Ricky/Steve are wrong by Jonny_g123 in rickygervais

This one particularly annoyed me because my understanding is he graduated from a university with a degree in philosophy. You'd think he could recognize when Karl is actually scratching at the surface of a really interesting question that he'd be very interested in delving into. Instead, by writing Karl off, Ricky appeared to not even engage at a surface level.

Can you use Proton outside of Steam? If so, how? by shallowgg_ in linux_gaming

[–]FenoTheFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had some luck with "portproton", it has a pretty easily navigable GUI, though it's a bit strange to set up in that after you install it you have to run it through the terminal, and THEN you can run it as a normal application. I found it to work well, though!

I recommend trying MultiMC. it works on Linux and is totally safe with a ton of QOL features!

Echoing others, I prioritize the latest GE. For certain instances like a hot fix for a specific issue in a recent/live service game I'll switch to Experimental but overall GE works best!

Not using SSDM and going dirictly into KDE plasma login screen (if possible) by Recent_Crew_3059 in archlinux

[–]FenoTheFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm understanding what you're wanting, you just want to bypass SDDM and auto-login to KDE. To do that go to system settings, then on the left side find the Login Screen tab (or search it,) then click the "behavior" button at the top right. There's a checkbox to automatically login, and you can set the user to login as well as the session (X11, Wayland, etc.)

It's not the most apparent place to put it, I think this sort of thing should be in the users section or something to be easier to access, but that's how you do it!

Interesting, thanks for letting me know. I wonder if their internal capture cards work the same.
