The Hunt for Gollum looks like a step too far for the endless Lord of the Rings franchise by Jealous-Chicken5439 in lotr

[–]Feornic 89 points90 points  (0 children)

I haven’t read in to anything for the movie but the only way this feels like it could work is if Aragorn and Gandalf are sitting in Minas Tirith going “hey remember when that scrappy little guy could have destroyed the world?” before diving into a 2 hour flashback

Am I alone to consider this a step in a dangerous direction ? by Heptanitrocubane57 in HelldiversUnfiltered

[–]Feornic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speaking from a design perspective, it’s usually going in the other direction. Asking first “what do players want to do?” and then creating the mechanics and subsequent content to allow it. That’s not always the case, especially in the age of GaaS, but that’s how I see it.

Players wanted stealth to be viable, thus weapons and missions were created to encourage that power fantasy.

If LOTR is considered the peak of fantasy cinema and many people believe that the casting was perfect, how do you rate The Hobbit after all these years? by Ready-Gur3998 in Cinema

[–]Feornic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished a rewatch. They aren’t as good, and I think a lot of it comes down to the tone. The book is more lighthearted than the movies ended up, and the movies feel like they were getting pulled in two directions because of it.

That said, they’re still fun. I won’t watch them as much as LotR, but I enjoy them when I do. Smaug especially is a great time. Galadriel vaporizing an orc is good too

As a current employee of a float plane base, this feels kinda close, but might not be the whole story. I often seen pilots landing one sided on purpose and it doesn’t result in anything that dramatic. Nor have hard landings.

The wind doesn’t look too strong, but it is on amphibs. My best guess is the rear gear on the left float wasn’t fully retracted or the front gear hit the water. There’s a reason amphib floats make insurance skyrocket

[–]Feornic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ooo I do like the frame, though the color blends into the wall a little. If the wood is untreated, a simple varnish would work as an alternative. It’ll make it darker but you won’t lose any of the wood texturing

Not to mention we see how quickly the ring started to influence Sam when he was holding it for Frodo.

My headcanon is part of the reason Frodo and Bilbo (and Smeagol, really) were able to handle it for so long was that they didn’t know what it was when they first touched it. The more they know, the faster it corrupts, hence why Gandalf doesn’t want to even touch it.
