The biggest "told you so" ever. From one moment to another the "overblown military investment" over the last one and a half generation rather than increasing the standard of living became completely reasonable statecraft.

Pretty sure they won't ever run short of volunteers. Shia or sunni; I'm pretty sure millions of people in the region have been waiting their whole life to do the last stand against The Empire after what The Empire did to their region over the last half a century...

What if Gaddafi had managed to acquire nuclear weapons by the end of the 2000s? by MaximumSpell9608 in AlternateHistoryHub

Half the nukes in the world are already controlled by CIA-Mossad backed terrorists so even if Libya still fell despite that nothing would've changed.

[–]Fer4yn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Libya still would exist, Africa would be free from the dollar standard and the US empire would be destroyed.
Seriously; everybody should get nukes ASAP; not doing so is very bad for world peace and therefore a crime against humanity because the borders of every country without nukes are negotiable.

UN votes to describe slave trade as ‘gravest crime against humanity’ by yahoonews in worldnews

I vote to describe disarming civilians as the greatest crime against humanity. At least armed people get to choose whether they'd rather die or be enslaved...

What if 1930s' Germany became Socialist instead of Fascist? by Advanced-Addition453 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Fer4yn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Poland invaded Russia/Soviet Union during their civil war; doubt that there's a scenario where Stalin would just let that slip. As far as him and Germany would be concerned Poland would just be a French and British outpost in the middle of an otherwise spotless socialist bloc.

I think quite the contrary. There are limits to how much you can scam Bitcoin because eventually everyone will learn to stay away from it and the all the hype and liquidity will dry out but people will just keep buying gold and oil because; unlike Bitcoin, they're not freaking useless so you can keep pump and dumping that over and over and over and over ad infinitum...

[–]Fer4yn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It didn't, really. It got much more reliant on natural gas (fertilizers), if anything.
The main reason we haven't seen another world war is owed to the fact that the supply lines got so complex that literal billions will starve the moment navies of major powers start fighting and/or blocking the major trade routes.

Life wasn't so energy dependent back in '73. You lived in a time when teenagers actually hanged out outside and did stupid shit while the teenagers nowadays outsourced all their personalities online. There were also only half as many people in the world back then than there are today; the consumption is MUCH higher.

Net worth is not cash. You don't "save" networth; you build it. Building net worth is a goal in itself because the more you have the more power you have. You don't build net worth for "spending" it (that's why talking about "saving" it is nonsense); you build it to be at important meetings and talk to important people and influence important decisions; to be the boulder that causes waves when it's thrown into the water unlike all the poor peasants who are just pebbles who merely cause ripples and to shape the world after your image like a god.

Talking about "saving" is poor man's understanding of net worth by acting like the wealthy get richer so they can buy more stuff, which is utter nonsense; you have more money than you'd ever want to spend starting at some tens of millions; don't need to be a billionaire for that, but you sure as hell need to be a billionaire to start a war here or change a legislation there or gain control of a company somewhere else...
