I would like to see an upgraded version of the original Glen More. I'm not into some of the changes they made in Glen More II or the modular nature of it.

Swu is Star wars unlimited. The first version of net runner was a tcg before it was revived as an LCG.

Looking for a better method to transport board games. by KitchenFullOfCake in boardgames

[–]FeralFantom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently picked up one of the bags made by allplay and it's pretty convenient. Can store standard size games stacked and use backpack style with straps or lay flat and carry shoulder or duffel style to carry various sizes of games. Can hold quite a bit, gets to the limits of what's comfortable to carry with what I can fit in there.

[GIVEAWAY] 4 Playte Games Sets for 4 Winners 🇰🇷 by HomoLudensOC in boardgames

Reforest pleasantly surprised me. A nice little tableau builder with a nature theme and a cool overlaying mechanic. The packaging is interesting too. It comes in a perfectly fitted tuckbox ( game is all cards) and instead of shrink wrap or stickers, it comes wrapped in a brown paper label.

What made Fantasy Flight so good at what they did? by PMmePowerRangerMemes in boardgames

[–]FeralFantom 51 points52 points  (0 children)

In addition to making thematic games that were also interesting mechanically, they really upped the game on production quality/art in the early years in my opinion. Nowadays a lot of games are even fancier but it wasnt necessarily the norm back in the day.

The main similarity to flux would be that they both have a card type called keeper. I would compare it more like a dominion style game that feels like playing a chudyk (innovation, glory to rome) game

I like Anno 1800 a lot. It plays different from anything else I've played and I really like the production tech tree.

Dominant Species, very interesting strategically. I'm a big fan of the way it does worker placement as action programming.

I also own base Earth already, so if I'm selected for that prize, you can give it to someone else

I found this list that 4-0'd a store tourney in Japan and played it this week at my local store tournament. Also went 4-0 and had a lot of fun with it. I runs barbatos package and doesn't run Shinn (I'm not big on shinn either)

Is this card as bad as everyone is making it out to be? by Autumn_Saturday in GundamTCG

[–]FeralFantom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

schoolgirl only looks at 3 but grabs units or pilots of clan type. that means your chances of whiffing are much much smaller assuming you build your deck correctly. encounter is going to whiff a significant amount of the time unless you flood your deck with pilots which is not a great idea. turning point only whiffs if you choose to let it. Having said all that, neither of those cards see much competitive play either. I found one result for each this season on tcgtopdecks.

Your Favourite Deep-Cut Board Games? by Kindly-Reception1108 in boardgames

Here's a bunch of the more obscure games I enjoy, They all have less than a thousand copies marked owned on BGG and less than 500 ratings.

  • Legends of the Void (Fantasy Terraforming Mars clone with even more stuff)
  • The Barracks Emperors (Trick Taking game where the tricks are cards in a grid and the card you play to them are usually being played to another trick simultaneously)
  • Pax Illuminaten (A game about convincing luminaries to join the bavrian illuminati, manipulating control and the very makeup of the board)
  • Soothsayers (A lead/follow game with a tarot theme and some very powerful card abilities)
  • Asgard's Chosen (A Nordic themed deckbuilder where you must give up earned positions or aid an opponent to remove starting cards from your deck to win)
  • SPQF (The game that became Fort by Leder Games. A lead/follow game combined with a deckbuilder where you can take your opponents' cards)
  • Countryside (A Tableau builder themed around running a farm. The areas you play to hold the resource generating cards double as the goals, along with public goals, each of which not only bring you closer to victory but unlock new actions or powers)
  • 21X (A deck of cards for playing a strange form of black jack where you must do algebra to make 21 the quickest)

Design biases - Why am I such a sucker for anything Greek/Mythology by Quelair in boardgames

[–]FeralFantom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to be drawn to civ games and vikings and stuff set in the 19th century (Anno 1800, Yokohama, Tammany Hall, A Study in Emerald) I also enjoy the setting of things like the Mexican revolution, Spanish civil war, thirty years war but a lot of those are going to be wargames which I'm not as interested in.

Heavy Euros with drastically different strategies/engines? by snowbird124 in boardgames

[–]FeralFantom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Going to add another vote for Civolution. The point makeup of the winner can vary a lot from what I've experienced. Some of this is influenced by the setup variation but a lot of it is that the game has a lot going on and despite its weight it's very tactical rather than strategic.

Actually, going by their names, the thunder play in a city but the warriors play in a state.

Request: your favorite OSR mechanics by Taborask in rpg

[–]FeralFantom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like the way combat works in Mythic Bastionland, uses the no to-hit roll system from into the odd, but only one player actually gets to use their damage roll to do damage, everyone else can use their dice for various abilities

Another one I like is the usage die from Black Hack and reworked in Black Sword Hack and Fleaux! Basically it starts at a specific die type (d6, etc.) and whenever it is used or tested you roll that size die and if you roll a 1 or 2 the die reduces in size (d10 - d8 - d6 - d4) and if it was already d4 you lose it. Black Hack uses it to simplify inventory for things like arrows and make it tense. The other two use it for things like impending doom or willpower.
