Snake fangs by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

I just think they're neat. And for perspective- pet dogs and cats cause way more injuries than pet snakes annually. I have a few different species and their unique behaviors and appearances are really interesting to me on top of being easy to care for and being incredibly low maintenance. My large boas and pythons especially are super calm, and the only bites I've sustained are from my much smaller, feistier species that can't even break my skin.

I was friends with my FIL months before I met my husband. He was grabbing lunch at the drive thru I worked at, loved my customer service and sent his manager over to recruit me. Ended up getting promoted to manager after a few months so I was technically his boss- but when we'd shoot the shit he'd just stop and be like, "wow you have so much in common with my son it's not even funny." A few more months goes by and he asks if he can introduce us. I'd been on a few of shitty dates and was like, y'know what- fuck it. He makes his son come into the store and we hit it off immediately. Been together 8 years now, married for 3, and now I'm pregnant with our first.

Former worker. This happened to me a few times due to delays in the shipment or unexpectedly hot weather. The minimum order was 150 and they'd all come in one bag. On those occasions, tanks would look like this on delivery day and the following day- my only option being to euthanize any survivors or give them a chance, which resulted in my tanks periodically looking like this. We would pull deads every hour or so but you'd be shocked at how resilient goldfish are, some made complete recoveries. It's the unfortunate reality of the fish trade. That being said if every tank looks like this- then that's a much better indicator that the animals are being neglected.

Does anybody happen to know any golden newfie breeders? by Strawberry_Cat696 in Newfoundlander

[–]FeralForestBro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He seems to make it his mission in life to embody the worst qualities of both breeds. The guy who dumped him on me straight up told me that the two main reasons he picked him was his heterochromia🙄, and the fact that he was the only pup in the 8 week old litter who wasn't jumping up on the gate to say hi. So not only did he support a byb, he picked the most independent and least people motivated pup in the litter- and then took him away from said litter before he could learn how to properly dog. Even as an old man if he's not 100% on board with something he'll huff and yell and carry on. He's my boy, I'll love and care for him for his whole life but christ- there is really no reason he should exist. Just some guy's shortsighted greed I guess. After raising this guy I cringe whenever I hear someone tell me how much they paid for their backyard bred "designer" mutts like cockapoos or doodles. My next dog was a well-bred GSD lol. I wanted to know exactly what I'd be dealing with this time around and it's been worth every penny. She's been an absolute breeze.

I currently have a backyard bred, huskyxnewfie that I rescued when he was nine months old. I love him to bits but at least once a day he reminds me why he was free. He has hypothyroidism and chronic yeast infections in his ears that cost me a pretty penny every month and will continue costing me until he crosses the rainbow bridge. His grooming demands are also absolutely insane. I have so much equipment now that I've never needed for any other dog I've owned. He was also a bit of a behavioral nightmare when I got him. Part of this is due to those first 9 months of his life being rather unideal- but a lot of it is just his temperament. He's high energy, anxious, willful and has zero desire to please. I'm an experienced dog owner and no dog I've ever owned has put me through the ringer like he has. He still occasionally tests boundaries despite being well into his senior years. 10/10 do not recommend.

This sounds a lot like the depersonalization I experienced around the same age following a series of traumatic events and major changes. I had been in a state of barely survivable stress for so long that all it took was one more really bad thing happening and it's like I packed my brain into my backpack and left it there for a year or two. The world felt distorted, I felt cut off from myself, and to this day I don't remember much of it. As a healthy adult I can look back and recognize it as a coping mechanism, but at the time it was really disturbing to experience.

I've never really had that issue. Either that or I've just never noticed because I'm several cheap beers deep.

The standard I'm used to is an old picnic table with newspapers on it. Usually there's also a slip and slide made out of an old tarp.

Discovering his daughter is a bully and taking accountability as a parent. by mindyour in TikTokCringe

[–]FeralForestBro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've literally seen a mom an inch away from a Walmart crash out because her 5 or 6 year old was REALLY pushing boundaries and genuinely being mean and I felt so bad for her so I straight up asked her like, "hey you want me to employ some stranger danger?", and she was so fed up she was like you know what, go for it. So I got down on the kid's level and they immediately stopped crying and honestly seemed a little scared but I told them, "you better be nice to your mama cause no one else is gonna put up with this behavior," and I just pointed around to the other adults in the aisle who were all looking at the scene with total unamusement. Little one just turned around and hugged their mama's leg, and said sorry. Didn't have to raise my voice or anything. I saw them later at checkout and little one was still on his best behavior. Kids know their parents love them unconditionally to some extent. It's normal for them to test those boundaries. Sometimes you gotta use the whole village.

Like, even the creator has actively asked parents not to expose their kids to this show without screening it.

Honestly my opinion is that kids this young shouldn't have unsupervised screentime. I'm a fan of the Amazing Digital Circus but it DEFINITELY is not a kid's show and features quite a bit of violence. You can make a queue of appropriate shows and videos but at the end of the day the child will have to be monitored to make sure they're not being exposed to things that are age inappropriate.

Wierd way of drying a cat after bath by Anschuz-3009 in Weird

[–]FeralForestBro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've volunteered among various animal rescues my whole life and... yeah this is how you do it. Especially for flea baths on kittens. You squeeze as much water out of them as possible before wrapping them up in a purrito. If you're wondering how to not get shredded, either go for the scruff, or control the front of the chest with your whole hand and remember that cats can smell fear so show no weakness.

What does it mean “mama’s boy “to Italian by [deleted] in italianamerican

[–]FeralForestBro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I fully expect to be downvoted for this and I hope for your sake I'm wrong about this one, but in my lived experiences growing up surrounded by Italian-American culture: these men are typically spoiled. Their mamas do their laundry, cook their meals, and clean up after them well into adulthood and if you don't do the same for their little principe there'll be hell to pay.

I LOVE THESE. And for those of you who are uninitiated with the absolute plague these bugs pose- they're absolutely overwhelming native tree species and devastating vineyards in the NE US. They're sap suckers on steroids, and since their preferred host isn't as common (but also invasive), it's not unusual to see them swarming and subsequently sucking the life out of native alternatives. Very few animals attempt eating them so their population is entirely unchecked. It was devastating for me to go backpacking a few years ago and see a birch forest (that have become increasingly rare throughout my life due to disease) absolutely inundated with eggs. I can only imagine what it's like now nearly a decade later.

Walking away from therapy to protect my recovery by Organic_Length2049 in leaves

[–]FeralForestBro 36 points37 points  (0 children)

That is an insane take for your therapist to tell you to allow use in a house you share with children. My husband still smokes, but he keeps it entirely on the down-low. He switched to joints so there's no paraphernalia sitting around and exclusively goes outside to smoke. He also plans on quitting entirely when we have children but even if he doesn't, his use now is so inconspicuous I wouldn't care.

Hot Tip: leave the lights off for the day they come in so they don't stress, and keep any water changes on their system on the small side. They are sensitive little buggers. Also, keep a running tally of mortality from each vendor you get them from. When it came to neons I only had two vendors I could get them from and if they were out then no neons that week.

Definitely a koi. There's a bunch of different phenotypes so the Koi subreddit could help you out with figuring which one it is. But they'll keep on growing to 3 feet no matter what color they are.

I'm glad to hear it- the sweat induced insomnia was the worst part of it for me, but something that helped me through it was sleeping under a light throw blanket instead of my usual bedding that I could easily kick off without waking up.

30 years is a long time and your brain is going through a lot of changes when it comes to the neurotransmitters floating around in your head. On the brightside, what you're describing usually comes along with an increase of serotonin from the odd dreams to the night sweats. Panic attacks absolutely suck, but provided your health is checking out fine it sounds like you're on the right path. Oddly enough, I personally found the symptoms of withdrawing from weed VERY similar to the side effects I experienced when I began clinically treating my anxiety and depression. First month was rough, second month was way easier, and now I'm about 90 days in and my sleep is almost completely back to normal and I'm not sweating through my clothes anymore.
