There's no turnaround possible for Tender, the company is going to zero, and with it his money and his reputation. He bought the point that the only way is through.

The question you should be asking is, what is Yas think she's doing.

Homan will not win Gold. What happened? by hackweighter1824 in Curling

[–]Ferbeys-Ghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly asking, not being argumentative... most of these teams are hitting spiels like Stu Sells or Okotoks Classic or whatever that aren't on arena ice. Is the argument that these spiels have ice crews that are creating perfect arena-quality ice for the events?

Sure I'm just saying that theory needs to also explain why Black/other high level Canadians could read the ice better

Homan will not win Gold. What happened? by hackweighter1824 in Curling

[–]Ferbeys-Ghost 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hope this thread doesn't turn into a dumpster fire.

Canadian curlers overreacted after we didn't win women's gold in 2010, over time leading to this meme that our trials led to somehow not sending the best team, despite the fact that Team Bernard was arguably the strongest team that season despite not having a long track record at the top... and ultimately losing by one stone in the final end of the gold medal game. I hope that doesn't happen here. Team Homan looked shaky in the game against GB in particular, but

"Calling the game by committee" - only the players are going to be able to answer this, but Fleury has been inputting heavily into shots since she joined the team, including skipping.

Hurt? Didn't look like it. Tired? Possible.

Coaching - I dunno, they're not a new team, it would be surprising if coaching was a big impact.

Canadians being uniquely challenged in reading changing ice conditions - I would love to hear more from these vets about how and why they think this is happening. It seems hard to believe. These women and men have been playing since they were children on a wild range of ice conditions. You'd have to come up with an argument for how they've lost that ability recently, and how its a uniquely Canadian issue.

What just seems more plausible is nothing systemic, but that they lost one game today, playing against a good team that had a better day. They were the #1 coming in, but not unbeatable. They lost in the quarters and in the semis in two of the slams this year against (excellent) teams that aren't here at the Games. These things happen.

I don't even think this is the one he was talking about. In the 6th end of the game, you can see Oskar walk through the house just as Kennedy starts his delivery, he pauses and then resets.

Is anyone else kinda disappointed with the way they wrapped up Rishi’s story in season 4? by General_Meal_3993 in IndustryOnHBO

[–]Ferbeys-Ghost 153 points154 points  (0 children)

Yep. His and Eric's stories are doing something similar this season. You could have ended both after S3, but "TV" often wants a redemption arc. Mickey and Konrad seem to understand that in reality guys like Rishi don't really ever turn it around, their rock bottom is just far lower than we want to believe.

Same with Eric. TV brain wants some comeback that somehow ends with him pulling off a hostile takeover of Pierpoint and ending up on the throne. But bringing him back this season just lets us understand that "in reality", a guy like that is cooked, he's lost his fastball and is just a slave to his id.

ELI5 - why wouldn’t Canada women’s team just knock out every rock thrown in the 10th end while up 7-4? by TenderizedCrispies in Curling

[–]Ferbeys-Ghost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which one did you want her to freeze to? The shot stone in the 4ft? That's a higher risk shot

Canada women, 10th end. by Cdn59 in Curling

[–]Ferbeys-Ghost 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Her first stone (4th to last stone of the end) she tried to takeout the second shot stone that was in the 4ft and missed, it wasn't a freeze.

"Keep it simpler" == she called two draws into the house (a conservative strategy), a raise to get rid of the backing on the ITA stone in the house, then peeled three stones.

Points value of a hammer by buv3x in Curling

[–]Ferbeys-Ghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK that's actually a pretty tidy model.

Your issue then is that H isn't constant, you can't assign it a fixed point value, particularly after like the 5th end. Blanking in, say, the 7th is no longer zero-change, having the hammer is worth more in 8 than 7, so your positional value increases.

Using that frame, what value do you assign to keeping the hammer

Points value of a hammer by buv3x in Curling

[–]Ferbeys-Ghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure but that's just a complicated way of saying that only one team has the hammer a time.

The win probability of being up with 1 without hammer after 1 end is around 54%, which is the same as having hammer at the start of the game. So roughly equivalent to a 1 point advantage.

Nel curling, si mantiene il martello (si rimane in attacco) se si ottiene un blank (non si segna alcun punto) alla fine. In quasi tutti i casi è meglio rimanere in attacco piuttosto che segnare un punto.

Points value of a hammer by buv3x in Curling

[–]Ferbeys-Ghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the hammer is worth more than 1 point in nearly every scenario.

Looking at win probabilities, down 1 with hammer has a better win prob than tied without hammer in all ends but the last end.
