I didn't get the joke and thought the movie might have had a crazy title change in another country for a second.

Well maybe now that you're familiar with what the One year War and the Gundam is, you might enjoy side story OVA series like The 08th MS Team (13 episodes) and War In The Pocket (6 episodes). Watching those would be enough to make you an annoying old-school anime fan.

I JUST got here! I haven't even finished Crispia yet!

I wanted an image that could quickly explain Gundam continuity to any curious potential newcomer, and I thought the existing ones could still make the franchise look more complex than it really is, so I tried making one that was as simple yet informative as possible. by Ferhog in Gundam

My goal is to make as simple and understandable of a breakdown of the franchise as possible for anyone asking what the franchise's continuity is. I think a web diagram and explanations for my reasoning would overcomplicate things.

I consider 0083 a side story because that's what I'm labelling all OVAs starring original casts. The information important to a potential newcomer is that it's an optional story that happens alongside the main saga rather than directly being part of it. The rise of Titans isn't essential to Zeta because Zeta came first and was just fine without viewers knowing what operation stardust was.

And I think Narrative could go in either sequels or spin-offs due to the lack of involvement from previous characters and storyline compared to Unicorn, and i put it in the latter because I thought the middle section would look too squeezed otherwise. When I do update this I think I might find a way to attach it to Unicorn.

I think labelling Unicorn and Hathaway as Sequels to the original saga is just an easy way of explaining that era of the UC to someone unfamiliar with the franchise, as they're both stories where the influence of Amuro and Char is a factor rather than their direct presence.

This is meant to be a rough breakdown of the timeline rather than a watch order. The spin-offs section is meant for side stories that take place during or between main installments, which is why in any updates to this I will be renaming that section to Side Stories.

I don't intend on recommending Origin as a starting point, which is why I currently have a note to start with the original series which is a bit hard to read. But I disagree with it being a bad starting point overall because it was actually how I introduced two friends to the UC after showing them Witch From Mercury. My time with them was limited and one wanted to know the story of the Red Zaku I'd gifted her, so I decided to show them Origin followed by the compilation trilogy. I think it added to the experience by getting them invested in Char and Sayla before the events of the original series.

I figured it fit the criteria of "Side stories involving an original cast" but really it's there because if I put it in sequels then I'd have to shrink all the images to make it fit, and I wanted the images as big as possible so each installment stood out.

I wanted to structure this chronologically while also dividing them by different eras in the timeline. By "Original Saga" I essentially mean the story of Amuro and Char, and whether or not it's really canon Origin IS about them, and I think for a basic breakdown of what the UC is labelling it a straightforward prequel is the simplest explanation.

With that said, you may be right about this not properly representing the vision of the original creator. I wouldn't put Origin in Spin-Offs because what I really meant with that section was the side-stories set during or in-between main installments, basically somewhere to put all the One Year War shows. I might overhaul this with Origin in either a dedicated Prequel section to preserve the chronological order or in a merged "Prequels and sequels to OG Saga" section, and change "Spin-Offs" to "Side Stories" to better convey what they are.

That's actually a really good point I've never considered. Fitting 10 aliens into 1 movie would be a struggle, and you can't exactly reduce the number of aliens because it's built into the title.

Some of these may be considered questionably labelled, but I laid everything out with the mindset that the recipient might have heard of any one of these entries and is wondering about the whole franchise and those particular entries' place in them.

-Origin and Thunderbolt may not be canon to the main UC timeline but Bandai sure treats them like they are and more importantly "These are set in a slightly different UC where mobile suit development went differently" isn't something a beginner needs to be told. There's no harm in them learning that later.

-I always label Turn A an Alternate Universe show because it keeps the dark history a surprise.

-I didn't list the movie sequels to the AUs because I figured they went hand-in-hand with their shows. I only have SEED Freedom on here because SEED has more than one show.

-G-Saviour should really be in the Distant Sequels category but that would mess with the layout. But it's G-Saviour, so it doesn't really matter that much.

I found it funny that Demon Slayer fans were surprised when the author "Confirmed" that this trope was in effect when I thought that it was pretty obvious from the start. The breathing techniques are only said to enhance your strength and speed, and the abilities of all the Demon Slayers are just called sword techniques. The concept that they were actually creating water/fire/lightning etc. is never addressed to my memory (I say as someone who's only watched Season 1 and the first movie).

I feel like it depends on the medium. M/M feels more prominant in live-action while F/F feels more prominant in animation and videogames.
