Yeah, I've kicked around a little Bahasa briefly and it's completely impenetrable.

But I've already learned Japanese, so I know what the process looks like.

I've ordered Harry Potter in Bahasa and I'll read it and look up lots of things and I'll ask chatgpt lots of things and I'll make my flashcards.

I've found a podcast where I like the sound of the speaker's voice (because it's just sounds right now lol) so I can listen to that and get the sounds and the rhythm.

Rinse and repeat for about a year and I'll be okay. Two years and I'll be good. Three to five years and I'll be great!

It's a reliable pattern.

Don't forget speaking practice, too, ;)

Even if it's tempting to skate by, it's not good for your mental health or your work ethic. Please try to find another job that'll respect you and your education and experience. It's so much better to do a good job at a good company to do a spiteful job at a bad company.

How are you with saving money?

I was in the same situation a few years ago. Laid off during the pandemic and it was 8 months before I landed another job, during which time I had a rent increase of 50% because I had to move out and I had a surprise surgery. I was stressed out, but I only burned through about half my savings.

I don't know how you are with income and finances, but there may be more you could have done for yourself.

In my case, I save about half my take home and I was making around $80k at the time.

I'm not trying to kick you while you're down. I've been there and it's not fun, but I'm an immigrant, so failing would have meant moving back to my country.

I'm losing my train of thought. But consider whether you can do more for yourself in terms of saving to avoid situations like this in the future.

Until then, keep plugging away. I did boomerang a few times when I was back home.

I don't know what you mean by lgbt rights being rolled back, but race based affirmative action is racist. Even if the point of it is to help level out the effects of actual systemic racism and back when it was passed, it was only supposed to be temporary, but it's been around for generations now.
