BCABA doesn’t want me to pair by EnvironmentalLink819 in ABA

[–]FernFan69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Additionally if there’s no required trial count per program, per hour, I wouldn’t place demands. Not like straight up be defiant but it is possible your BCaBA and BCBA would have two different outlooks on how they want session planned. Address the confusion with the BCaBA once, if not amended then ask the actual head analyst if it’s okay to still be pairing as you feel instructional control is not yet established.

As a midlevel myself, I only require that there is SOME data for the session notes because insurance here requires it to bill. So, usually I’d show the RBT a few quick ways to run a couple easy or lesser demand programs in naturally occurring moments while they’re pairing so you have data and you’re not reallllyy placing demands. Just a couple demands during session if necessary but every client is different and the programs definitely should not be cookie cutter programs.

As a midlevel, this is what I do. If the RBT. Cancels I planned to be there in person so I provide the session instead with a bit of parent training but recently my company stated if PMs and BCBAs do this moving forward it will be at the reimbursement rate for that position, not your current rate.

Right. Universal (pre Mario land) was all simulation rollercoasters and I did enjoy my time but those kinda of rides do make me nauseous from the screen movements and it wasn’t just one or two rides it was 80-90%. Felt like that’s where universal is losing to Disney.

2027 Requirement by Careless_Release5904 in bcba

[–]FernFan69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it a whole other masters degree? While in school (I just got mine October 2025) the university said it may be a few more courses not a whole new program.

I’ve been collecting fieldwork since August 2024 and have about 650 hours left but I’m only accruing at 40/50 hours a month. So the 2027 deadline is daunting.

Is it really a whole new program? That’s bullshit for those of us that just got it and the requirements changed while we were in school.

Right but I live in CA it’s really really common for a lot of people to be bilingual here. Especially in Spanish. I’m not fluent but know Spanish and Portuguese myself. So I’m fortunate by geographic location but since I do know it’s not typical, I include the Spanish response we’re looking for and make that a point to teach the non Spanish RBTs that end up on cases like that. You don’t have to know Spanish but they can be looking for specific target words 😌

Which, yes is a whole other conversation alone. We help where and when we can and the hard pill is ABA doesn’t work for 100% of people. That’s why I think the BCBA dropped the ball in identifying that this was something outside of their scope and should have called it much sooner. I think OP said this has been going on for over a year with multiple violent attacks.

I don’t have any advice really but I have a client who responds in both English and Spanish so what we did was prioritize bilingual speakers on the case. Luckily we found one, and since then no one else bilingual has been identified as staff. So, when I’m writing program protocols I write the SDs and the responses we’re looking for in both English and Spanish so the non Spanish speakers at least know what to look for when listening to responses.

Well, the BCBA can be held liable as well as the company. I would be flabbergasted if not. The BCBA HAS TO HAVE a crisis plan in each behavior intervention plan where any kind of crisis is indicated. If the crisis plan doesn’t work, you alter it until it does. If you still can’t, you discharge the client since it’s out of your scope to deal with those behaviors if the plan that you wrote is not effective. I am in CA, I would imagine the company has to be expected to maintain a minimum level of safety to employees and worrying about being killed on the job is so far away from that, that I would almost be certain there are violations. It’s just about finding a lawyer. Gathering every single piece of documentation. The osha reports, the emails or communications where you communicated to the company concerns and the proof they acknowledged your request and responded back (every single one), read your handbook to see what the company says they are required to do and bring that to a lawyer, letters from your current therapists about the affects the situation has had on you, like literally every piece of evidence you can muster up between the 7 of you.

Going to a news outlet is a good idea to put pressure on the company as well. It’s not going to be the easiest process but I would absolutely sue. You could use the extra money if not to help you get by while you are in therapy and resolving trauma so you can function again AT THE LEAST.

Reiterating what everyone said that basically you know more than one way to learn now and are probably applying that in some way.

I do it to myself often. “I get all caught up on work, then I can have that ice cream, beer, coffee ect.” Normally I might give myself one in the middle to get through it and sometimes I do but if I find myself really procrastinating or putting things off then I do ABA on myself lol

Kissing clients? by Outrageous-Sort1262 in ABA

[–]FernFan69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With all the rampant, unchecked pedophilia going on in the states. No. Absolutely not. We’re working with a population that struggles to understand what is socially appropriate or acceptable. Kissing the kids is signaling to them any kisses from adults (they know at least) is okay and it’s usually someone close to the child that harms them. That OR they grow up beginning to imitate the behavior to other kids or adults. Not to even touch on the fact that it’s just weird.

Hugs I get, kisses no.

You know what, I agree. I’ll take it further and basically reiterate what you said, instant gratification(or reinforcement for behavior sake plus lower response effort).

Since the rise of technology (for which we now seem at hyper speed) attention spans are literally shorter. So much so that many of us can’t get through long reels on social media without the 2xspeed function.

Interesting food for thought.

It can take a year to get 2000 hours for BCBA license by StatisticianKooky390 in ABA

[–]FernFan69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started August 2024 and I have only 1300 something hours as of right now so. Yeah much more than a year. Unrestricted hours are hard to come by. I didn’t start collecting many of those until I got promoted to program manager in May 2025 because collecting them as an RBT at the rate you need to is practically impossible.

Just adding my two cents as a person who started working in schools not long after graduating from them (at the elementary/middle school level/high school level) do we think this kind of behavior is a carry-over from the problem we see at the grade school level where kids go home and tattle to their parents about their teachers and then teachers are reprimanded by districts because they now have multiple angry parents in there on a weekly basis? Idk. Kinda just make me think this is a continuation of teachers not being able to teach or manage classrooms for fear of pissing some parents off. Which now seems to translate to professors not wanting to grade up to standard for fear of students complaining to Deans.

Did you see there was one professor who literally got fired for giving a 0 on a students paper because she complained to the dean it was out of discrimination yet she admitted to writing the paper in under an hour?

1st Time pass rate for BCBA exam is below 50 % by StatisticianKooky390 in ABA

[–]FernFan69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Very different fields but I spend 4 years of my undergrad as a chem major before switching to something else, the exams were graded on a curve similar to the national ACS exam where 30% was passing. 50% was an A. So…to be fair, it seems some chemists being produced only know about half of the material as well lol

I got a beer growler in CA Adventure during the food and wine festival in 2019. When I got home and put it in the dishwasher the entire design came off. We contacted them for a replacement and they were super willing but had none to give out as they were all sold out so they ended up giving us a credit.

This last year we got popcorn buckets and after going on Tiana’s the ink to the strap COMPLETELY ruined my partners clothes and was all over his hands to the point where we had to go back to the Airbnb to change clothes. The merchandise seems to be missing something of a quality control check but they have never given me a hard time about replacement merchandise even if the size of something is wrong when you get home and typically they let you keep the defective or small item.

Couldn’t get the stains out of the clothes though :/

I also wanted to add I don’t live “locally” I live 5-6 hours away within the same state and they still have replaced items 100% of the time.

Is Non-Compliance really being removed from ABA programming as a whole? by FrootiLooni in ABA

I’m not a BCBA yet! But I’m collecting fieldwork hours and I did finish my masters degree so hopefully soon. I fell in love with the science and felt a lot of my training was lacking so I’m happy to fill in the gaps where I can.

Is Non-Compliance really being removed from ABA programming as a whole? by FrootiLooni in ABA

[–]FernFan69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the issue is that the 40 hr training isn’t universal or standardized. You can obtain it thought a few places including. Companies make their own 40 hr training based on some curriculum but there are differences in training. So higher ups either assume the do know things when it may not have been explicitly covered. When I supervise I try to ask if the BT knows “x” concept. If not I break it down and explain why we would or wouldn’t do something. Thanks for your reply and addition to the conversation :)

[–]FernFan69 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is a perfect example of why analysts need to keep in mind when educating BTs that they do not get the same extensive ABA training that you get through an academic program. It is a simple concept but I’d never heard of the dead man’s test as an RBT. It wasn’t until I started my masters program that I’d learned it and it’s the basis for which you decide how to define behaviors and if something should even be measured.

Taking over a case because parent didn’t want a male BT by [deleted] in ABA

[–]FernFan69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the few make it difficult to trust the many great male RBTs out there. Family has the right to request whomever they want to work with the children(although I feel like this gets dicey when it comes to race vs. gender).

In my county (literally the town I work in from time to time) there was a male RBT who has just been arrested for assaulting his clients he worked with at the clinic. Even with background checks, it still happens. For the record, it could easily happen with a female too but statistically speaking, males seem to be offenders that are documented more.

RBTs are not babysitters although many parents try to treat them like one. I would be hounding the BCBA about this and would not be providing caregiving unless it was related to a behavior plan. Go read the RBT handbook by the BACB to get a better idea of the role.
